The ice core dust particulate sampled from Mt. Xixabangma has been analyzed by means of X-ray photoelectron spectrometer （XPS） and scanning electron microscope with energy dispersion X-ray analysis （SEM/EDAX）. The results show that the contents of SO42. and SO32. in the surface layer of the dust are significantly higher than those in the subsurface layer （with the exception of organic sulfide）. This difference indicates that the surface SOx has been captured and then chemically converted by the atmospheric dust particulate before its deposition with snow, which is obviously different from those inner layer sulfates and sulfites contained by dust itself. In addition, it has been determined by SEM/EDAX that the dust contains relatively high concentrations of transition metal elements such as Fe and Ti oxides which could function as photocatalysts to the conversion of SOx adhered on the surface of the dust, and consequently accelerate the deposition of SOx to snow. TPPR and XPS characterizations were combined to study the reaction mechanism of CO2.eforming of methane to syngas over Co/γ-Al2.3 catalysts. CH4 shows a tendency to form surface carbons by deep dissociation at high temperatures. CO2.dissociation reaction also occurs at >673K. It is believed that carbide carbons are active species to generate CO by rcacting with o atoms dissociated from CO2. In the reaction,Co(0) particles are responsible for dissociating CH4 to form active C. abstracting an O atom from CO2.molecule, and transferring O atom to C to form CO.

A simple, mild, efficient Mn(salen)-catalyzed oxidation system of secondaty alcohols,in which the ionic liquid [bmim]PF_6 acts as a powerful additive, has been described. The reactionproceeded with higher efficiency. The catalyst was more easier to recycle in ionic liquid[bmim]PF_6 with a well-proportioned CH_2.1_2.than in the single CH_2.l_2.or ionic liquid.
