STUDIES ON ION BEAM APPLICATION TO IMPROVE AQUATIC MACROPHYTE REMEDIATION CAPACITY IN EUTROPHIC WATERS

Using ion beam biotechnology in combination with soil-less plant cultivation on artificial substratum (floating beds), the experiments were conducted with Ipomoea aquatica Forsk. Plants were attached to floating-beds which were placed on the surface of artificially nutrient-enriched tank water, in order to study the purification and remediation efficiency of ion beam-treated I. aquatica cultivars. The results show that N + ion beams with 2.keV energy and dosages of 0, 2.6, 3.9, 5.2. 6.5, 7.8, 9.1×10 13N +(ions)/cm 2.affected I. aquatica dry seeds differently, with the dose of 3.9×10 13N + (ions)/cm 2.improving effectively the performance as expressed by various biological indices. After ion beam application, I. aquatica cultivars grew well in nutrient-enriched water bodies, increasing the growth of leaves and stem, number of leaves, length and area of roots, plant height, and weight more remarkably than observed in the control. The net removing rates of TN, TP were as high as 75% and 82., respectively. Especially under the dose of 3.9×10 13N +(ions)/cm 2. the net removing rates of TN, TP were highest, for 77% and 85%, respectively. It was proved that ion beam application improves phytoremediation and may be used to purify nutrient rich water bodies.

Syntheses of amphiphilic biodegradable copolymers of poly(ethyl ethylene phosphate) and poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) for drug delivery

Biodegradable and amphiphilic triblock copolymers poly(ethyl ethylene phosphate)-poly(3-hydroxybutyrate)-poly(ethyl ethylene phosphate) (PEEP-b-PHB-b-PEEP) have been successfully synthesized through ring-opening polymerization. The structures are confirmed by gel permeation chromatography and NMR analyses. Crystallization investigated by X-ray diffraction reveals that the block copolymer with higher content of poly(ethyl ethylene phosphate) (PEEP) is more amorphous, showing decreased crystallizability. The obtained copolymers self-assemble into biodegradable nanoparticles with a coreshell micellar structure in aqueous solution, verified by the probe-based fluorescence measurements and transmission electronic microscopy (TEM) observation. The hydrophobic poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) block serves as the core of the micelles and the micelles are stabilized by the hydrophilic PEEP block. The size and size distribution are related to the compositions of the copolymers. Paclitaxel (PTX) has been encapsulated into the micelles as a model drug and a sustained drug release from the micelles is observed. MTT assay also demonstrates that the block copolymers are biocompatible, rendering these copolymers attractive for drug delivery.

Nonlinear Theory on Dynamic Controlling Interface Patterns DuringSolidification of a Dilute Binary Alloy

In non-equilibrium nonlinear region, the nonlinear equations of time dependence of perturbation amplitude at the solid/liquidinterface during solidification of a dilute binary alloy are established on the base of assuming that there is local equilibrium at the solid/liquid interface and considering that curvature, temperature and composition at the solid/liquid interface which are related to the perturbation amplitude are nonlinear. As a result, patterns at the solid/liquid interface during solidification process, which is from nonsteadystate to steady state can be controlled by these nonlinear equations.

Relationship between Low Temperature Toughness and Microstructure in Low Activation Fe-Cr-Mn(W,V)Steel for Fusion Reactors

Fe-Cr-Mn (W, V) austenite steel was researched in order to supply a theory base for the first wall materials of fusion *** included vacuum melting, forging, annealing, solution treatment, Charpy impact tests and microstructure observation. Theresults show that the imped value decreases with the test temperature decreasing. In this system, there is ductile/brittle transition. Themechanism of this decrease of the impact value is considered to be due to γ - ε transformation in sub-stable austenite steel and stoppingoverlapping sacking fault by grain boundaries in stable austenite steel.

Phenomenological Modeling of Warm Compaction and Experimental Verification

A phenomenological modeling approach to establishing the warm compaction equation and curves by modifying the regression equation of the room-temperature compaction curve is presented. An enhanced factor of compacting pressure is introduced into the equation in order to reveal the effects of powder/die temperature and filling height of powders on green density. Compaction curves yielded from this equation are consistent with the experimental data of ATOMET grade iron powders. The curves show that the powder/ die temperature should reduce as the filling heights of powders increase and that in some cases warm compaction can not give rise to a higher green density.

Annealing Texture Evolution of Ti-IF Steel during Batch Annealing

Texture development and recrystallization behavior of Ti-IF steel during Batch Annealing (BA) were investigared with X-ray diffraction and EBSP in lab, and the results were compared with research work on continu ous annealing (CA) with rapid heating rate. The basic tendencies are similar that eary nucleation takes place in ND fibers, RD fibers are consumed at the end of recrystallization, and ND texture dominates over annealing texture. However, the detailed texture transformation during batch annealing is different and somewhat more compicated than tha in rapid-heating process. Moreover, misorientation plays an important role in texture transformation of BA In addition, the results of EBSP are consistent with that of ODF well.

β-Sialon Produced by Carbon Thermal Nitriding Reaction of Bauxite

β-Sialon was produced by carbon thermal nitriding reaction in N_2.gas atmosphere when the mixtures of bauxite and anthracite were put into vertical furnace. According to the mass loss of raw materials and the result of X-ray diffration (XRD) of products, the influences of the process parameters on the compositions and relative contents of products, such as the fixed carbon content, the flow of N2. the soaking time and the temperature, were researched.

Development and Application of High Performance X80 Line Pipe for the 2.(nd) West-East Gas Pipeline

It is the development tendency of gas pipeline to improve strength of line pipe and transmission pressure, which is an important symbol of the progress of gas pipeline technology. The 2.d West-East Gas Pipeline (the 2.nd WEGP) is the largest-scale X80 high pressure gas pipeline project in the world. Through the joint development project by Pipeline Company, research institute, and steel company, a series of achievements of technology have been obtained, which makes it possible to apply pressure of 12.MPa and X80 LSAW and HSAW pipe for the 2.nd WEGP. Specifications of X80 steel and pipe have been issued based on API 5L. High performance X80 steel and pipe have been developed and meets the Specification. General design conception of applying HSAW pipe and LSAW pipe on gas transmission trunk line with large diameter and high pressure has been established. Failure control of the 2.nd WEGP has been carried out to avoid failure and reduce the lost which based on analysis of pipeline failure mode. In this paper, research and development of high performance X80 welded pipe, establishment of technical route of joint application of HSAW and LSAW steel pipe and key technology of failure control are emphatically discussed.

Microstructure Evolution of Semi-solid Processed Hyper-eutectic Al-30%Si Alloy

An investigation was made on the influences of mechanical stirring on microstructure of hyper-eutectic Al-30%Si alloy (inmass fraction) during solidification. The primary Si crystals formed in the alloy melt were gradually changed from elongated platelets tonear-spherical shapes by mechanical stirring. The spheroidization of primary St crystals occurs by the mechanism of bending and fractureof Si platelets, wear and collision between Si crystals, and coalescence of small Si particles. The influence of under-cooling and coolingrate of the alloy melt on primary Si crystals of semi-solid processed alloys is investigated as well. The increase of under-cooling andcooling rate decreases the size of primary Si crystals.

Electrochemical Characteristic of Decarburization Reaction

The electrochemical mechanism of the reaction between Fe-C melts and CaO-SiO2.Al2.3-FeOx slag systems has been carried out. The experimental results suggest that the final content of carbon in melt increases as the partial oxygen pressure of gas decreases no matter whether there is electronic conductor or not. However, the final content of carbon in the system with electronic conductor is much lower than that without electronic conductor. It can be deduced that the transfer ability of oxygen in slag is dominated by electrons. When an electronic conductor exists, an easy pathway for the electrons is provided and the oxygen transfer rate is accelerated.
