Identification of Hercynian shoshonitic intrusive rocks in central Hainan Island and its geotectonic implications

An identification has been made of some shoshonitic intrusive rocks in central Hainan Island recently. These rocks are K-rich (K2.=2.9%―5.1%, K2./Na2.=0.95―2.12., distinctly enriched in LILE and LREE, strongly depleted in Nb, Ta, and moder- ately depleted in Sr and Ti, with (87Sr/86Sr)i = 0.70859―0.714.0} and ε Nd(t) = (?2.77―?7.4.). They were derived from an EMⅡ-type mantle source. The enrichment process is related to metasomatism of depleted mantle caused by a great amount of fluid-melt released from oceanic crust and terri- genous sediments at great depth (eclogite facies) during the subduction of the South china plate under the Indochina-South china Sea plate in the Carbon- iferous–Early Permian. A SHRIMP U-Pb zircon dating yields a crystallization age of 2.2.7 Ma for the sho- shonitic intrusions, which is coeval with the strongly peraluminous granites found in central Hainan Island. These two kinds of rocks generally possess syn-intrusion ductile deformation structures. Thus they are considered to have been generated during the early stage (syn-thrust phase) of a post-collisional event. The primary magma of shoshonitic rocks was produced at a depth > 80 km by decompression- dehydration melting of previously enriched litho- spheric mantle wedge, phlogopite-bearing garnet peridotite, which was in turn caused by the break-off of a descendent slab and upwelling of a hot as- thenosphere. The rising of melts was accompaniedby crustal contamination and crystallization fractiona- tion (AFC). Combining with other related data, it is proposed that the southwards subduction and amal- gamation of the South china plate with the Indo- china-South china Sea plate took place at ca. 2.7- 2.8 Ma, which was a part of the convergence proc- ess of the Pangea supercontinent. The suture zone was probably located along the line of Song Ma-Beibu Gulf-north margin of the Yunkai Moun- tains-Wuyi Mountains.

The CD59-coding sequences were obtained from 5 mammals by PCR and BLAST, and combined with the available sequences in GenBank, the nucleotide substitution rates of mammalian cd59 were calcu- lated. Results of synonymous and nonsynonymous substitution rates revealed that cd59 experienced negative selection in mammals overall. Four sites experiencing positive selection were found by using "site-specific" model in PAML software. These sites were distributed on the molecular surface, of which 2.sites located in the key functional domain. Furthermore, "branch-site-specific" model detected 1 positive site in cd59a and cd59b lineages which underwent accelerated evolution caused by positive selection after gene duplication in mouse.

Four earthquakes with M > 6.0 occurred in Qinghai Province, china froth 1988 to 1990. Using broadband data from GDSN, the source ruptures of these earthquakes and tectonic surroundings were studied using waveform modelling combined with background data of geological tectonics. Through the analysis of apparent source time function (aSTF) and apparent time difference (aTD), the complexity of sources was discussed, and in view of source analysis, the result further supports the conclusion that the compressive stress axis of tectonic stress field in northeastern Qinghai-Xizang (Tibetan) plateau is at the NE direction, is nearly horizontal, turns counter-clockwise to the NEE or N to S direction, and is nearly horizontal close to the northern Qinghai-Xizang plateau.

Apatite fission track dating is carried out on nine samples collected from the central part (Lianmuqin section) and from both northern and southern margins of Turpan Hami Basin. The fission track ages of seven Jurassic samples are distinctly younger than depositional ages. In contrast, the fission track ages of two Cretaceous samples are older than, or as old as depositional ages. These observations indicate that the Jurassic samples have been annealed or partially annealed, whereas the Cretaceous samples have not been annealed. The further thermal modelling results show that Turpan Hami Basin experienced a Late Cretaceous period (12.-100 Ma) of tectonic uplift with rapid cooling and exhumation of sediments. The samples underwent a Cenozoic period of reburial and re heating and were exhumed again at 10-8 Ma.

The Zhongdian—Daju fault is the transitional fault connecting the Kalakorum\|Jiali right lateral strike slip faulting zone and the Red River Fault, and a part of the south boundary of the eastward extrusive Tibet plateau. Field observations, associated with the analyses of the satellite images and air photographs, show that the Zhongdian—Daju fault, a 2.0km long fault in northwest Yunnan, is a nascent right lateral strike slip fault zone with the slip rate of 2.8mm/a. The Zhongdian—Daju fault is not a simple right lateral strike slip fault. There are several subparallel, slightly en échelon fault strands from Deqing to Yongsheng with the total length of 2.0km and perhaps 2.0km. Like the typical strike\|slip faults in this area, the morphological features of the fault, which can be seen clearly in the satellite images, are characterized as straight volleys and displaced gullies and ridges. In addition, Several Quaternary basins distribute along Zhongdian—Daju fault. The are controlled by the right lateral strike slipping of the fault in late Quaternary.

Ten highly variable microsatellite loci were performed in order to evaluate the genetic variability of wild and hatchery samples of half-smooth tongue sole Cynoglossu＇s semilaevis. A group of 2.0 genotypes belonging to four wild samples, Laizhou （LZ）, Weihai （WH）, Qingdao （QD）, Rizhao （RZ） and one hatchery sample, Mingbo （MB）, were screened. All of the： ten microsatellite loci screened in this study showed marked polymorphism. A total of 70 different alleles were observed over all loci. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 4.2.to 1006 the average of expected and observed heterozygosity ranged from 0.67 to 0.82. and from 0：77 to0.87 respectively. A total of 10, 16, 10, 11 and 5 unique alleles each were found in LZ, WH~ QD：RZ and MB populations. The effective number of alleles varied from 2.87 for HSTS_7 to 6.83 for HSTS_h. The number of average genotypes ranged from 6.0 for HSTS a to 15.4.for HSTS_h： As compared with the wild populations, the hatchery population, MB, showed significant genetic changes such as fewer alleles per locus （P〈0.05）, a smaller number of low frequency alleles （P〈0.05）, a small number of unique alleles and a small number of genotypes （P〈0.05）, all indicative of a reduction in genetic diversity.

The energy distribution of elastic waves in an infinite elastic medium with uniformly and randomly distributed scatterers has been researched. The scattering process is assumed to be isotropic and without conversions between wave types. We get the equation on the distribution of energe density in time and space covering single as well as multiple scattering. Taking physical symmetry of the field into account, it can be simplified. In the case of small earthquakes, the energy source of elastic waves can be assumed as a short pulse emitted isotropically at t=0. The first-order approximate solution in the 3-dimensional space can be obtained, and it is equivalent to Sato’s solution for single scattering. In the 2.dimensional space the complete analytical solution has been derived by the mathematical inductance which leads to a conclusion that the codas of surface waves can give the Q-factor related to intrinsic absorption. The equation obtained in this paper is more general.
