Mitochondrial disease currently received an increasing concern. However, the case-control design commonly adopted in this field is vulnerable to genetic background, population stratification and poor data quality. Although the phylogenetic analysis could help solve part of these problems, it has not received adequate attention. This paper is a review of this method as well as its application in mito- chondrial disease study.

The CD59-coding sequences were obtained from 5 mammals by PCR and BLAST, and combined with the available sequences in GenBank, the nucleotide substitution rates of mammalian cd59 were calcu- lated. Results of synonymous and nonsynonymous substitution rates revealed that cd59 experienced negative selection in mammals overall. Four sites experiencing positive selection were found by using "site-specific" model in PAML software. These sites were distributed on the molecular surface, of which 2.sites located in the key functional domain. Furthermore, "branch-site-specific" model detected 1 positive site in cd59a and cd59b lineages which underwent accelerated evolution caused by positive selection after gene duplication in mouse.

Chinese snub-nosed monkeys (genus Rhinopithecus, subfamily Colobinae), including R. bieti, R. brelichi and R. roxellana, are well-known as the non-human primates with the highest known altitudinal distribution. They represent an interesting model organism of adaptation to the extreme environmental stresses. However, no study at the molecular level has yet been reported for the high-altitude adaptation in Chinese snub-nosed monkeys. Leptin, as an adipocyte-derived hormone, is believed to play an important role in energy homeostasis in adaptation to high altitude environments. In the present study, we sequenced and compared leptin sequences of the Chinese snub-nosed monkeys (R. bieti and R. roxellana) with their lowland close relative R. avunculus and other Colobines. Unexpectedly, no amino acid changes were observed in the 7 Colobinae species examined, including the 2.Chinese snub-nosed monkeys, indicating no difference in the evolutionary pattern of the Leptin gene between high-altitude monkeys and their lowland counterparts. In contrast to a previous finding of adaptive evolution of Leptin gene in plateau pikas, our study suggests that this gene may not have an important role in high-altitude adaptation of Chinese snub-nosed monkeys. Other nuclear genes associated with energy metabolism, or mitochondrial genes, are most likely to be involved the molecular mechanism underlying adaptation of these monkeys to cold and hypoxia associated with the highland environment.

Room temperature tensile tests were carried on the hot-rolled state ultra-low carbon and low alloy cabainite and martensite steels which were get by different finishing temperatures and different cooling *** used the Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM),Electron Backscattered Diffraction (EBSD) and X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD) to identify the metallographic structure and analyse the precipitated *** inherent mechanism of high strength of ultra-low carbon and low alloy bainite and martensite steels was discussed,and the analysis indicated that the reinforcement of ultra-low carbon and low alloy bainite and martensite steels was mainly produced by the superposition of the dislocation strengthening,solution strengthening and grain refinement strengthening.

This paper has raised the key technical problems which need to study for construction of 300 m-height-scale concrete faced rock-fill dams based on the main experiences on the extra-high concrete faced rock-fill dams built after the year of 2.00.

Non-radial p modes and g modes appear simultaneously in red giant stars. Their frequencies have different variation rates,causing their frequencies to become close during stellar evolution so that avoided crossings *** separation between regions where acoustic waves and gravity waves propagate for l=1,2.and 3 is different,which results in the coupling efficiency also being *** present the results of numerical computations of the models we *** find that the two kinds of modes for l=2.and 3 need to be closer in frequency in order for a complete exchange to occur,compared to the case for modes with l=*** scaled oscillation frequencies also present better regularity with evolution than modes with l=1. In order to study the effect of the avoided crossings in detail,we set the mode which has the smallest mode inertia to be the p *** plot the two kinds of modes for l =1,2.and 3 in frequency and periodéchelle diagrams and find modes of l=2.and 3 fit the two relations better;they are more equally spaced in frequency and period than modes with l=*** careful observation of the two kinds oféchelle diagrams for l=2.and 3,we still find that some p modes shift a little from being equally spaced in frequency and some g modes,which are close to those p modes in period,shift a little from being equally spaced in ***,we study the relation between the deviation from period being equally spaced and the mode inertia of g modes for different *** g modes of l=1 with a period closer to the p mode have less inertia and the deviation is bigger in the periodéchelle *** deviation is also obvious. However g modes of l=2.and 3 shift a little or have almost no deviation from being equally spaced in period,even though some of them may have strong coupling and close mode inertia like in the p ***,we suggest a possible method for measuring period spacing of g modes precisely using mixed g modes with l=2.and 3 that have fewer observed mixed g m

Characteristics of the Nujiang River runoff for a long term and its response to climate change

The Nujiang River runoff increases obviously from May each year,and the runoff dominated 81.9% of the gross annual columns during the period from May to October,which is the rainy season over the *** the mean runoff accounts for 13.65% of the annual columns in each month during the rainy season but only 3% during the dry *** another word,the menstrual runoff in rainy season is as much as 4.5 times that in other *** shows that runoff varies greatly with season and the runoff in the rainy season takes the dominant role in annual *** analysis of the relationship between the river runoff and precipitation results in that the synchronous correlation coefficient is significant from January to April but the correlation with 1 month lag in the other months except in *** on the analyses of precipitation effecUng on the river runoff,it is noticed that the precipitation in May af- fects annual runoff greatly and has a close relationship to the dry *** annual,rainy season and dry season runoff and precipitation are analyzed by wavelet *** results show that the change of precipitation and runoff exhibits the dominant periods with low frequency fluctuation（about 2.4 years）,decadal（about 8 years）and interdecadal（about 16 years）*** change of the annual,rainy season and dry season runoff are consistent with an increased trend,which is evident with 0.05 confidence level except in June and *** data indicate that the average runoff is in- creased by 57.6,2..1 and 85.7 m3/s in every 10 years respectively for annual columns,dry season and rainy *** most obvious change is in October,which increased 111.3 m3/s every 10 *** variation of runoff,temperature and precipitation in Nujiang River drainage basin is primarily consis- *** is revealed that the climate change has resulted in the runoff change in *** is increased maximally in October,secondly in May and the increase amount of yearly runoff can a

To study the origin of the soft X-ray excess,we compile a sample of 94 unobscured,radio-quiet QSOs and Seyfert galaxies with available data from GALEX and *** find that 50 sources show strong soft X-ray excess and the other 44 show weak/no soft X-ray *** analyses of the data indicate that the difference in soft X-rays is mainly but not only resulting from different accretion rates(in units of Eddington rate).The statistical study of the sources with soft X-ray excess shows that the strength of soft X-ray excess weakly and positively correlates with the Eddington ratio and increases with the increase of the strength of UV radiations relative to the *** that the UV emissions are from the thin disk,the correlations imply that the origin of soft X-ray excess is associated with the thin disk,either by means of Comptonization of the disk photons or in some other ways.
