Gas hydrate fast nucleation from melting ice and quiescent growth along vertical heat transfer tube

During the observation of HCFC141b gas hydrate growth processes outside a ver- tical heat transfer tube, two exciting phenomena were found: fast nucleation of gas hydrate from melting ice, and the spontaneous permeation of water into the guest phases along the surface of heat transfer tube to form gas hydrate continuously. These two phenomena were explained with Zhou & Sloan’s hypothesis and the theory of surface free energy respectively, and a novel method of gas hydrate formation was presented——gas hydrate fast nucleation from melting ice and quiescent growth along heat transfer tube. There is no mechanic stirring in this method, the formed gas hydrates are compact, the ratio of unreacted interstitial water is little, which overcome the drawback of high energy cost and high ratio of unreacted interstitial water among the formed gas hydrates in the system with mechanic stirring. This finding will benefit the gas hydrate ap- plication technologies such as natural gas storage technology or cool storage technology with gas hydrate.

It has been proved to be a difficult problem to determine directly trapping pressure of fluid inclusions. Recently, PVT simulation softwares have been applied to simulating the trapping pressure of petroleum inclusions in reservoir rocks, but the reported methods have many limita- tions in practice. In this paper, a method is suggested to calculating the trapping pressure and temperature of fluid inclusions by combining the isochore equations of a gas-bearing aqueous inclusion with its coeval petroleum inclusions. A case study was conducted by this method for fluid inclusions occurring in the Upper-Paleozoic Shanxi Formation reservoir sandstones from the Ordos Basin. The results show that the trapping pressure of these inclusions ranges from 2. to 32.MPa, which is 6─7 MPa higher than their minimum trapping pressure although the trapping temperature is only 2.3℃ higher than the homogenization temperature. The trapping pressure and temperature of the fluid inclusions decrease from southern area to northern area of the basin. The trapping pressure is obviously lower than the state water pressures when the inclusions formed. These data are consistent with the regional geological and geochemical conditions of the basin when the deep basin gas trap formed.

Independent of Indochina extrusion, the South china Sea experienced a process from passive continental rifting to marginal sea drifting. According to the fault patterns in the Beibu Gulf basin and the Pearl River Mouth basin, the continental rifting and early spreading stage from 32.to 2. Ma were controlled by extensional stress field, which shifted clockwise from southeastward to south southeastward. From 2. Ma on, the sea spread in NW-SE direction and ceased spreading at around 15.5 Ma. Integrated geological information with the assumption that the South china Sea developed along a pre-Cenozoic weakness zone, we did analogue experiments on the South china Sea evolu- tion. Experiments revealed that the pre-existing weakness zone goes roughly along the uplift zone between the present Zhu-1 and Zhu-2.depression. The pre-existing weakness zone is composed of three segments trending NNE, roughly EW and NEE, respectively. The early opening of the South china Sea is accompanied with roughly 15° clockwise rotation, while the SE sub-sea basin opened with SE extension. Tinjar fault was the western boundary of the Nansha block (Dangerous Ground), while Lupar fault was the eastern boundary of the Indochina, NW-trending rift belt known as Zengmu basin developed between above two faults due to block divergent of Indochina from Nansha. In the experiment, transtensional flower structures along NW-trending faults are seen, and slight inversion occurs along some NE-dipping faults. The existence of rigid massifs changed the orientations of some faults and rift belt, and also led to deformation concentrate around the massifs. The rifting and drifting of the South china Sea might be caused by slab pull from the proto South china Sea subducting toward Borneo and/or mantle flow caused by India-Asia collision.

The mineralization is related closely to sedimentation, diagenesis and hydrothermal processes. In this paper, investigations are carried out on coal occurrence, maceral composition, inorganic minerals, trace elements and huminite reflectance. It is concluded that the source of Lincang superlarge deposit is mainly the muscovite granite in the west edge of the basin. During sedimentation, Ge (germanium) was leached out and entered the basin. Ge was adsorbed by lower organism and humic substances in water. Lincang lignite underwent three thermal processes: peatification, early diagenesis and hydrothermal transformation. During peatification, Ge was adsorbed or complexed by humic colloids. During early diagenesis, the Ge associated with humic acids was hard to mobilize or transport. Most of Ge entered the structure of huminite while a small amount of Ge was associated with residual humic acids as complex or humate. During hydrothermal transformation, the heated natural water or deep fluid from basement encountered the coal layer within tectonic weak zone. SO 2. 4 was reduced by coal organic matter. Pyrite and calcite formed. Hydrothermal process did not contribute significantly to mineralization.

Experiments on partial melting of mantle lherzolite have been realized at 0.6 and 1.0 GPa and the chemical compositional variations of melts during different melting stages have been first discussed. The results show that the trends of variations in SiO2. CaO, Al2.3, Na2. and TiO2.are different at different melting stages. The melts produced at lower pressure are richer in SiO2.than those at higher pressure. The mantle-derived silica-rich fluids (silicate melts) are polygenetic, but the basic and intermediate-acid silicate melts in mantle peridotite xenoliths from the same host rocks, which have equivalent contents of volatile and alkali components and different contents of other components, should result from in-situ (low-degree) partial melting of mantle peridotite under different conditions (e.g. at different depths, with introduction of C-O-H fluids or in the presence of metasomatic minerals). The intermediate-acid melts may be the result of partial melting (at lower pressure) Opx + Sp + K-Na-rich fluid ±(Am-phi) ± (Phlog) = OI + melt. But the intermediate-acid magmas cannot be produced from the partial melting of normal mantle peridotite unless the crustal materials are introduced to some extent.

Petrography and mineral chemistry of two new ureilites, GRV 02.512.and 02.931, from the Grove Mountains, Antarctica, are reported in this paper. GRV 02.512.exhibits a typical ureilite texture, and consists of 48.3% olivine, 9.4% pigeonite and 38.1% carbo- naceous interstitial material and/or reduction product. GRV 02.931 has a cataclastic porphyritic texture, and consists of 19.1% olivine and 14.1% pigeonite embedded in 66.3% carbonaceous interstitial material and/or reduction product. The coarse-grained olivine and pigeonite in both meteorites have homogeneous cores, and they are FeO-rich within the range of the ferroan subgroup (subgroup I) of olivine-pigeonite ureilites. All olivine grains of the meteorites show reduction zones along boundaries and cracks. Abundant diamond coexists with graphite as graphite-rich patches and veins in the carbonaceous interstitial material. Petrogenesis of both meteorites and the origin of diamond are discussed.

STUDIES ON REVERSE OSMOSIS SEPARATION OF AQUEOUS ORGANIC SOLUTIONS BY PAA/PSF COMPOSITE MEMBRANE

The reverse osmosis (RO) separation of aqueous organic solutions, such as alcohols, amines, aldehydes, acids, ketones, and esters etc., by PAA (polyacrylic acid)/PSF (polysulfone) composite membrane has been studied. It was found that the separation results for aliphatic alcohols, amines and aldehydes are satisfactory, the solute rejection (R-a) and the volume fluxes of solutions (J(V)) for 1000 ppm ethanol, ethylamine and ethyl aldehyde are 66.2., 61.0%, 84.0% and 0.90 x 10(-6), 0.35 x 10(-6), 0.40 X 10(-6) m(3)/m(2. . s, respectively, at 5.0 MPa and 30 degrees C. R-a increased with increasing molecular weights of alcohols, amines and aldehydes, and the R-a for n-amyl alcohol, n-butylamine and n-butyl aldehyde reached 94.3%, 88.6% and 96.0%, respectively. Satisfactory separation results (R-a > 70%) for ketones, esters, phenols and polyols have been obtained with the PAA/PSF composite membrane. The effect of operating pressure on the properties of reverse osmosis has also been investigated. Analysis of experimental data with Spiegler-Kedem's transport model has been carried out and the membrane constants such as reflection coefficient sigma, solute and hydraulic permeabilities omega and L-p for several organic solutes have been obtained.

There has been a long\|term debate about the Paleo\|Tethyan Ocean in South china continent. Based on the geological and geochemical studies, it is suggested that there exist two tectonic belts in SE Yunnan, SW china called Ailao Shan zone and Shizong—Mile zone, which separate Yangtze Block, Cathysian Block and Indo\|{2. Block from each other. The evolutionary history and its geodynamics of these suture zones are correlated with the Paleo\|Tethyan Ocean. Both of the zones are keys to understanding whether the Paleo\|Tethyan Ocean extended from Western Yunnan area to east of the South china continent. The Ailao Shan belt consists of Red River fault, Ailao Shan fault, Shuanggou fault and Huashan—Yayi fault, which are the boundaries of the Ailao Shan basement metamorphic belt, ophiolitic melange belt and Island\|arc volcanic\|sediments belt, *** ophiolitic melange belt is characterized by the existence of the ophiolite in Shuanggou area, which represents the relicts of the oceanic crust of the Ailao Shan Ocean. In addition, there exist volcanic rocks in west of the ophiolitic melange belt in Jingdong area. The geochemical characteristics of basalts in Jingdong are similar to that of the E\|MORB. Synthesized studies on geochemistry and tectonics suggest that the basalts in Jingdong area were formed in an extensional rift setting in Devonian.

Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease triggered by genetic, environment or other risk factors such as infection, drugs, stress, moisture, alcohol, and smoking. A major psoriasis susceptibility locus at 6p2..3 has been identified. Further studies found that HLA-DQA1*02.1 allele was associated with psoriasis. However, there were few data exploring an association between the environmental factors and susceptibility genes. In this study, the samples of 189 patients with psoriasis and 333 healthy controls were collected with their consent and were carried on analysis through polymerase chain reaction sequence-specific primer (PCR- SSP) method. The proportion of male psoriasis patients engaging in the smoking and alcohol was much higher than that of the control group (P2.1 allele was present at significantly higher frequency in the patients with psoriasis (OR=4.2., P2.1 in male patients with psoriasis (OR>6.91, P<1.0×10–4).
