DNA barcoding:species delimitation in tree peonies

Delimitations of species are crucial for correct and precise identification of *** "spe-cies" is more a subjective than an objective concept in taxonomic practice due to difficulties in revealing patterns of infra-or inter-specific *** phylogenetic studies at the population level solve this problem and lay a sound foundation for DNA *** this paper we exemplify the necessity of adopting a phylogenetic concept of species in DNA barcoding for tree peonies(Paeonia ***).We used 40 samples representing all known populations of rare and endangered species and several populations of widely distributed tree *** currently recognized species and major variants have been included in this *** chloroplast gene fragments,***,rps16-trnQ,trnL-F and trnS-G(a total of 5040 characters,96 variable and 69 parsimony-informative characters) and one variable and single-copy nuclear GPAT gene fragment(2.93?2.97 bp,2.9 variable and 148 parsi-mony-informative characters) were used to construct phylogenetic relationships among the *** evolutionary lineages revealed by the nuclear gene and the chloroplast genes are inconsistent with the current circumscriptions of ***,***,***,and *** based on *** inconsistencies come from(1) significant chloroplast gene divergence but little nuclear GPAT gene divergence among population systems of *** + ***,and(2. well-diverged nuclear GPAT gene but little chloroplast gene divergence between *** and *** incongruence of the phylogenies based on the chloroplast genes and the nuclear GPAT gene is probably due to the chloro-plast capture event in evolutionary history,as no reproductive barriers exist to prevent inter-specific *** also evaluated the suitability of these genes for use as DNA barcodes for tree *** variability of chloroplast genes among well-defined species or population systems of a specie

Over the past two decades, molecular techniques have been widely used in ecological study and molecular ecology has been one of the most important branches of ecology. Meanwhile, genetic fingerprinting analyses have significantly enhanced our knowledge of the diversity and evolutionary relations of the planktonic organisms. Compared with conventional approaches in ecological study (e.g. morphological classification), genetic fingerprinting techniques are simpler and much more effective. This review provides an overview of the principles, advantages and limitations of the commonly used DNA fingerprinting techniques in plankton research. The aim of this overview is to assess where we have been, where we are now and what the future holds for solving aquatic ecological problems with molecular-level information.

Analysis and Modeling on the Spatial Structure of Urban Land Use: A case of Jinan, china

Based on the data of urban land use obtained by remote sensing interpretation from aero images in 1986 and 2.04, the spatial structure of Jinan is studied in this paper with the method of Geographic Information System (GIS). According to the proportion of land for residence, industry and commerce, the urban district can be distinguished into three rings. Compared with the traditional theory of the ring structure in Western coun- tries, they have many distinctive characteristics. The main func- tions of the inner ring include residence, business and banking, but the proportion of residential land (more than 50%) is considerably higher than that of the cities in Western countries. The land proportion for residence and industry in the intermediate ring is equal on the whole. The main land of the outside ring is for industrial use. From 1986 to 2.04, great changes have taken place on the land proportion of different types of use. In the inner ring, the land for residential and industrial use has shrunk much while the land for commercial use has increased. In the intermediate ring, the changes of the three types of land use were not very much and the temporal variation was relatively stable. On the contrary, the structure in the outside ring varies acutely. Though most of it is also for industrial use, the proportion of residential land has in- creased much. The three rings can also be divided into several sectors respectively, according to the function of land use clusters. New trends and mechanisms of the changes of land use impacting the urban structure were proposed in the end of the paper.

High-spin states in 161Er have been studied experimentally via the 150Nd(16O, 5n) reaction at a beam energy of 86 MeV. Three rotational bands built on the 5/2.[642., 3/2.[52.], and 11/2.[505] configurations have been extended up to high-spin states, and particularly, the α = -1/2.branch of the ground state 3/2.[52.] band has been revised significantly. It is found that signature inversion occurs in the 3/2.[52.] band after the band crossing in 161Er. The systematics of the signature inversion associated with the 3/2.[52.] configuration in the rare-earth region is discussed. The band properties are analyzed within the framework of a triaxial particle-rotor model, and a triaxial deformation is proposed to the 3/2.[52.] band.

THE　4~Σ-　STATES　OF　THE　FO　RADICAL

Abstract: For investigating the 4Σ- 4Σ- transition in the FO radical to which an observed 2.8 nm ASE line has been attributed. the potential energy energy of the four lowest-lying 4A2.states of FO have been calculated using the NIRSDCI method. The results indicate that the first 4Σ- (14A2. and the upper 4Σ- (44A2. States are weakly bound and bound states respectively, and the 2.A2.and 34A2.States are both repulsive States which are not relevant to the emission. The predicted Te value for the 4Σ-→4Σ- transition is 4.62.eV, which is in excellent agreement with the photon energy value (4.63 eV) of the ASE line. The procedure of our MRSDCI calculations for excited states is described in detail, and the previous calculation results for these States are discussed.

Linear EV model with replicate observations on independent variables

This paper studies the linear EV model when replicate observations are made only on independent variables. We construct the estimates of regression coefficients and prove the consistency and asymptotic normality under some proper conditions. Results obtained reveal the difference between the case where the independent and dependent variables are observed repeatedly and simultaneously and the case studied in this article.

With the rapid development of Internet,much spatial information contained in non-structured or semi-structured documents is available on the World Wide *** such documents,localities are always textually described using spatial relationships and named places,instead of numerical ***,extracting positional information from locality descriptions is an important *** this paper,we bridge two aspects of locality descriptions,namely generating locality descriptions and positioning localities,and provide a method to compute probability density according to the selection probability of a reference object to describe the position of the target *** operation on uncertainty field is used to deal with locality description involving multiple reference *** metrics are introduced to measure the results of positioning *** choose the mixed selection probability function based on Euclidean distance and Voronoi stolen-area to compute probability density ***,we use three cases to demonstrate the proposed methods.

Some characteristics of the atmosphere during an adiabatic process

Some important characteristics of the atmosphere during an adiabatic process are investigated, which include the invariability of atmospheric entropy range and local surface potential temperature, the conservation of the atmospheric mass intervened between any isentropic surface and the ground, and the isentropic surface intersecting with the ground. The analysis shows that the atmospheric reference state (ARS) for investigation on available potential energy (APE) should be defined objectively as the state which could be approached from the existing atmosphere by adiabatic adjustment, and be related to initial atmospheric state before adjustment. For the initial atmosphere state at any time, its corresponding ARS is different from the one at another time. Based on the above-mentioned conclusions, the reference state proposed by Lorenz cannot be obtained physically, so a new conception, the conditional minimum total potential energy, is put forward in order to objectively investigate atmospheric APE.

Fingerprint recognition has been increasingly used to realize personal identification in civilian' s daily life, such as ID card, fingerprints hard disk and so on. Great improvement has been achieved in the on-line fingerprint sensing technology and automatic fingerprint recognition algorithms. Various fingerprint recognition techniques, including fingerprint acquisition, classification, enhancement and matching, are highly improved. This paper overviews recent advances in fingerprint recognition and summarizes the algorithm proposed for every step with special focuses on the enhancement of low-quality fingerprints and the matching of the distorted fingerprint images. Both issues are believed to be significant and challenging tasks. In addition, we also discuss the common evaluation for the fingerprint recognition algorithm of the Fingerprint Verification Competition 2.04 (FVC2.04) and the Fingerprint Vendor Technology Evaluation 2.03 (FpVTE2.03), based on which we could measure the performance of the recognition algorithm objectively and uniformly.
