A new mathematical model, fluctuation spectrum random trajectory model (FSRTM) for the particle motion in environmental fluid was developed using Lagrangian method, in which the time mean velocity of the fluid was calculated by a time mean velocity formula for two dimensional homogeneous shear turbulent flows in open channel, the velocity fluctuation of the fluid was determined by Fourier expansion and fluctuation spectrum, and the particle motion equation was solved using Ronge Kutta method. For comparison, the spherical cation exchange resins with a density of 1 44 g/cm\+3.and diameters ranging from 0 50—0 60 mm, 0 60—0 70 mm and 0 80—0 90 mm were selected as the experimental solid particles, and their moving velocities and trajectories in shear turbulent flows with the flow Reynolds number of 4710, 102.0, 11900 and 2.760 were investigated. The comparing analyses of the modeled results with the measured results have shown that the model developed in this paper can describe the motions of the particles in shear turbulent flow.

Sea level variations(SLVs) can be divided into two major components:the steric SLV and the mass-induced *** two components of SLV in the South china Sea(SCS) are studied by using satellite altimetry,GRACE(Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) satellite gravity,and oceanographic data on annual and inter-annual *** the annual timescale,the geographic distribution of mass-induced SLV's amplitude jointly estimated from altimetry and the ECCO(Estimation of the Circulation and Climate of the Ocean) model agrees very well with that from *** observes obvious seasonal mass-induced SLV in the SCS with annual amplitude of 2.7±0.4 cm,which is consistent with the annual amplitude of 2.7±0.3.cm estimated from the steric-corrected *** the inter-annual timescales,the mean SLV in the SCS shows a large oscillation,which is mainly caused by the steric *** trend of mean SLV inferred from altimetry in the SCS is 5.5±0.7 mm/yr for the period of 1993.2.09,which is significantly higher than the global sea level rise rate of 3.3.0.4 mm/yr in the same *** is no obvious trend signal in the mass-induced SLV detected from GRACE that indicates the water exchange between the SCS and its adjacent seas and land is in balance within the study period.

The Red Earth deposit around Xining, northeastern Tibetan Plateau, has beenstudied in terms of soil micro-structure, grain-size distribution, major- and trace-elementchemistry and magne-tostratigraphy. Field investigations indicate that the Red Earth sequenceconsists of 2. visually definable yellow-brown and weakly-developed soils interbedded with reddishstrongly-developed soils, and has a similar structure to the aeolian Red Clay deposit on the chineseLoess Plateau. Grain-size analysis shows that the Red Earth deposit is very fine-grained with anegligible sand fraction ( > 63.μm). Thin-section observations under light microscopy show that thedeposit has a clayey texture and the coarse fraction ( > 10 μm) mainly consists of quartz,feldspar and micas. Pyroxene and hornblende were also observed. This mineralogical composition ofthe coarse fraction is similar to that of the Quaternary loess. In addition, all of the mineralgrains are semi angular semi-angular and are generally finer than 63.μm. There is a good agreementbetween the major and minor trace element chemistry of loess-soil units and the Red Earth *** REE distributions of the loess-soil and the Red Earth deposit are similar in shape, withenriched LREE and fairly flat HREE profiles and a clear negative Eu anomaly. The geochemicalcharacteristics of the Red Earth deposit are also identical to those of upper continental crust,thus indicating a wind-blown origin. Magnetostratigraphic investigation shows that onset of the RedEarth deposition predates 11.4 Ma BP (13.6 Ma at a nearby site). The distribution of the reportedMiocene aeolian loess at Qin''an of the Loess Plateau is still unknown. Our results indicate thatthis aeolian deposit had extended to the northeastern Tibetan Plateau by at least the middleMiocene. The similarity of the element geochemistry between the Red Earth deposit and the overlyingloess shows that they may have similar sources and dynamic transport system, and may indicate thatthe

The soil moisture in Shaanxi Province,a region with complex topography,is simulated using the distributed hydrological model Soil Water Assessment Tool(SWAT).Comparison and contrast of modeled and observed soil moisture show that the SWAT model can reasonably simulate the long-term trend in soil moisture and the spatiotemporal variability of soil moisture in the *** to NCEP/NCAR and ERA40 reanalysis of soil moisture show that the trend of variability in soil moisture simulated by SWAT is more consistent with the *** model results suggested that high soil moisture in surface soil layers appears in the southern Shaanxi with high vegetation cover,and the Qinling mountainous region with frequent orographic *** deeper soil layers,high soil moisture appears in the river basins and *** regional soil moisture showed a generally decreasing trend on all soil layers from 1951 to 2.04,with a stronger and significant decreasing trend in deeper soil layers,especially in the northern parts of the province.

The formation of eukaryotic mRNAs involves the cleavage and polyadenylation of pre- mRNAs. To investigate the sequence requirement of putative polyadenylation signals (PASs), poly(A) sites and downstream elements (DUEs) in 3.-end-pro- cessing in rice, we compared expressed sequences tags (ESTs) with poly(A) extremity to full-length cDNA sequences and constructed a database of 12.69 pre- mRNA sequences in ?40―+40 nt surrounding the poly(A) sites, which were from 9953.genes. The al- ternative poly(A) sites were revealed in approxi- mately 2.% of mRNAs. Nearly 80% of pre-mRNAs showed stringent requirement of the YA (CA or UA) at poly (A) sites for polyadenylation. About 7.9% had the AAUAAA signals on ?40―?1 nt upstream of the poly(A) sites. Over 60% of mRNAs probably used the one- or two-base variants of AAUAAA hexamers as their PASs in 3. fragments. The single-base variants of AAUGAA revealed the high frequency in 11.5% of 3. fragments. The DUEs were detected in 90% of pre- mRNAs, especially more than half of the pre-mRNAs with multi-base variants of AAUAAA had the DUEs surrounding the poly(A) site. The location of DUE is also important for defining the cleavage site. Fluids and noble gases of mantle-derived materials are important tracers forthe mantle information. Compositions of primary fluids and noble gases in mantle-derived mineralsfrom the Yishu area, Shandong Province, china, were tested by the methods of heat-bursting andheat-melting respectively. The fluids are mainly composed of CO_2. CO and H_2. which account forabout 90% of the total, and are similar to the mantle-derived rocks from other areas of eastern{3.; ratios of ~3.e/~4He in almost all samples range from 0.82.Ra to 2.74 Ra, whereas^(40)Ar/^(3.)Ar from 2.9.5 to 758.8. Both ranges are much lower than those of the typical oceanmantle-derived samples (such as MORB) and primarily reflect the influences of the atmosphericcomponents and the radiogenic isotopes. Ratios of C/~3.e range from 2..6 x 10~9 to 1050 x 10~9,N_2.Ar from 92. to 56612. and N_2.~3.e from 2.5 x 10~9 to 2. x 10~9, similar to those in westernUnited States and New Zealand which belong to the tectonic plate collision regions. The ratios fallin the intersect of mantle-crust-atmosphere in the comprehensive tracer-charts, reflecting theinfluences of the atmosphere and the crusts with organic components. Our results suggest that thecomposition of the primary fluids and the isotopic ratios of the noble gases may either reflect theevolution process of mantle-derived rocks connected with the rise and eruption of magma, or theinfluence of the ancient subduction-plate on the continental mantle of this region.

Eclogites have been recently reported in the interior of the Tibetan Plateau, including in the central Qiangtang metamorphic belt, in the Basu metamorphic massif of the eastern Bangong-Nujiang suture zone, and at Songdo and Pengco in the eastern Lhasa terrane. Some typical ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) metamorphic phenomena, e.g., garnet exsolution from clinopyroxene, were documented in the Basu and Pengco eclogites. The UHP metamorphism in the interior of the Tibetan Plateau marked by these eclogites generally took place in the Early Mesozoic. Along with exhumation of these eclogites, (post-) collision-related magmatism extensively occurred around the central Qiangtang belt, the eastern Ban-gong-Nujiang suture zone, and the eastern Lhasa terrane. The occurrence of these Early Mesozoic ec-logites manifests an out-of-sequence evolution of the Tethys, and they could be a product of diachro-nous collision between the eastern Qiangtang terrane and the irregular continental margin of the united western Qiangtang-Lhasa plate, along the linked eastern Bangong-Nujiang-central Qiangtang zone. The collision-related magmatic rocks could have been originated from lithospheric thickening, melting, or detachment due to the collision. The presence of UHP metamorphic rocks in central Qiangtang and Basu implies likely continental deep-subduction, and the denudation of these two metamorphic zones could have served as the source of the Triassic turbidites in the Songpan-Garzê complex and the Ju-rassic turbidites in the western Bangong-Nujiang zone, respectively. However, studies of the eclogites in the interior of the Tibetan Plateau just began, and many principal aspects still remain to be explored, such as their distributions, typical lithologies and minerals, temperature-pressure conditions, timing of formation and exhumation, protoliths and tectonic setting, and relationship with the evolution of the Tethys and large-scale basins in Tibet.
