CO2.mineralization by typical industrial solid wastes for preparing ultrafine CaCO3: A review

Mineral carbonation is a promising CO2.sequestration strategy that can utilize industrial wastes to convert CO2.into high-value CaCO3. This review summarizes the advancements in CO2.mineralization using typical industrial wastes to prepare ultrafine CaCO3. This work surveys the mechanisms of CO2.mineralization using these wastes and its capacities to synthesize CaCO3, evaluates the effects of carbonation pathways and operating parameters on the preparation of CaCO3, analyzes the current industrial application status and economics of this technology. Due to the large amount of impurities in solid wastes, the purity of CaCO3 prepared by indirect methods is greater than that prepared by direct methods. Crystalline CaCO3 includes three polymorphs. The polymorph of CaCO3 synthesized by carbonation process is determined the combined effects of various factors. These parameters essentially impact the nucleation and growth of CaCO3 by altering the CO2.supersaturation in the reaction system and the surface energy of CaCO3 grains. Increasing the initial pH of the solution and the CO2.flow rate favors the formation of vaterite, but calcite is formed under excessively high pH. Vaterite formation is favored at lower temperatures and residence time. With increased temperature and prolonged residence time, it passes through aragonite metastable phase and eventually transforms into calcite. Moreover, polymorph modifiers can decrease the surface energy of CaCO3 grains, facilitating the synthesis of vaterite. However, the large-scale application of this technology still faces many problems, including high costs, high energy consumption, low calcium leaching rate, low carbonation efficiency, and low product yield. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate ways to accelerate carbonation, optimize operating parameters, develop cost-effective agents, and understand the kinetics of CaCO3 nucleation and crystallization to obtain products with specific crystal forms. The influence of mechanical loading on osseointegration:an animal study

Osseointegration of implant provides a stable support for the prosthesis under functional *** timing of loading is a critical parameter that can govern the success of the osseointegration of ***,it is not clear whether the early loading can affect the success of osseointegration,or whether the no-loading healing period can be *** paper presents an animal study conducted to investigate how external loads influence the osseointegration at the initial stage of *** implants were inserted into the goat tibia laterally,and different axial loadings were applied to the im-plants in 4 weeks after *** the 2.weeks period of early loading,animals were sacrificed and the tibia bones with the implants were cut off from the *** mechanical test was employed to find out the differences in the pull-out force,and shear strength at the bone-implant interface between the non-loaded and the loaded *** implant-bone interfaces were analyzed by histomor-phometric method,SEM(scanning electron micrograph) and EDS(energy density spectrum).The re-sults indicated that the bone-implant interface did not well integrate 4 weeks after surgery,and the fi-brous tissue could be found at the interfaces of the specimens without *** the results of loaded specimens with 10 N axial force showed that that parts of the interface were well integrated,indicating that the early mild loading may play a positive role in the process of the *** results support that a certain range of external loading would influence the process of osseointe-gration,and appropriate mechanical loading can be applied to shorten the osseointegration period after surgery.

This article reviews of the original research published by Wu et al in the World Journal of Gastroenterology,delving into the pivotal role of the gut microbiota in the pathogenesis of Crohn's disease(CD).Insights were gained from fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT)in mouse models,revealing the intricate interplay between the gut microbiota,mesenteric adipose tissue(MAT),and creeping *** study uncovered the characteristics of inflammation and fibrosis in the MAT and intestinal tissues of patients with CD;moreover,through the FMT mouse model,it observed the impact of samples from healthy patients and those with CD on *** pathogenesis of CD is complex,and its etiology remains unclear;however,it is widely believed that gut microbiota dysbiosis plays a significant ***,with the development and application of next-generation sequen-cing technology,research on the role of fungi in the pathogenesis and chronicity of CD has *** editorial serves as a supplement to the research by Wu et al who discussed advances related to the study of fungi in CD.

Applications of in-situ spectroscopic techniques towards COelectroreduction

In-situ experimental techniques have been widely applied to uncover the dynamic evolutions of both the structure of catalysts and the interfacial property of catalysis, thus serving as the most important means to gain molecular-level insights into the reaction mechanisms. In this mini review, we summarized recent progress in the applications of the interface-sensitive in-situ Raman and in-situ infrared（IR） spectroscopy towards CO2.lectroreduction. Specifically, we concentrated on two aspects to clarify the role of both in-situ Raman and in-situ IR in revealing reaction mechanisms of CO2.lectroreduction. The first one was the in-situ spectroscopy for detecting the active structures. The other one was the in-situ spectroscopy for capturing the reaction intermediates. As powerful guidance for the rational design of catalysts, the reaction mechanism was discussed in the specific examples. Finally, we try to predict the trends for the future development of in-situ spectroscopic techniques towards heterogeneous catalysis.

Predicting the Maintainability of Open Source Software Using Design Metrics

This paper empirically investigates the relationships between 15 design metrics and maintainability of 148 Java open source software. The results show that size and complexity metrics are strongly related to the maintainability of open source software. However, cohesion and coupling, as currently captured by existing metrics, do not seem to have a significant impact on maintainability. When used together, these metrics can predict system maintainability fairly accurately （mean MREs below 30%）.

Goodness-of-fit test for regression modes has received much attention in literature. In this paper, empirical likelihood (EL) goodness-of-fit tests for regression models including classical parametric and autoregressive (AR) time series models are proposed. Unlike the existing locally smoothing and globally smoothing methodologies, the new method has the advantage that the tests are self-scale invariant and that the asymptotic null distribution is chi-squared. Simulations are carried out to illustrate the methodology.

In this paper we investigate the two-dimensional compressible isentropic Euler equations for Chaplygin gases. Under the assumption that the initial data is close to a constant state and the vorticity of the initial velocity vanishes, we prove the global existence of the smooth solution to the Cauchy problem for twodimensional flow of Chaplygin gases.
