Variation of reactivity of particulate and sedimentary organic matter along the Zhujiang River Estuary

To investigate organic matter source and reactivity in the Zhujiang River (Pearl River) Estuary and its adjacent areas, particulate organic carbon (POC), particulate hydrolysable amino acids (PHAA), and Chl a during two cruises in July 1999 and July 2.00 were measured. The highest POC and PHAA concentration was observed in the waters with maximum Chl a. The spectra distribution, relative content (dry weight in milligram per gram), PHAA-C% POC and other indicators such as the ratios of amino acids vs. amino sugars (AA/AS) and glucosamine vs. galactosamine (Glum/Gal) suggested that particulate amino acids in the water column and sediments in the Zhujiang River Estuary were mainly derived from biogenic processes rather than transported from terrestrial erosion. In inner estuary where high turbidity was often observable, organic matter was mainly contributed by re-suspension of bottom sediments with revealed zooplankton, microbial reworked characteristics, which suggest that these organic matters were relatively 'old'. In the estuarine brackish region, organic matter in water column is mainly contributed by relatively fresh, easily degradable phytoplankton derived organic matter. During physical - biological processes within the eastuary, organic matter derived from phytoplankton was subjected to alteration by zooplankton grazing and bacterial reworking.

Experimental study on the effect of gaseous and particulate emission from an ethanol fumigated diesel engine

Experiments were conducted on a four-cylinder direct-injection diesel engine with 10% and 2.% of the engine load taken up by fumigation ethanol injected into the air intake of each cylinder, to investigate the gaseous, particulate mass (PM) emissions, and number concentration and size distribution of the engine under five engine loads at the maximum torque engine speed of 1800 r/min. The experimental results show that at low engine loads, the brake thermal efficiency (BTE) decreases with increase in fumigation ethanol; but at high engine loads, the BTE is not significantly changed by fumigation ethanol. Fumigation ethanol can effectively decrease in brake specific nitrogen oxides (BSNOx), particulate mass and number emissions but significantly increase in brake specific hydrocarbon (BSHC), brake specific carbon monoxide (BSCO) and proportion of BSNO/BSNO2. Also, the geometrical mean diameter of the particles (GMD) increases with increase in engine load but the diameter is not changed by fumigation ethanol in all cases.

Epilepsy,one of the most common neurological disorders,is characterized by spon-taneous recurrent *** lobe epilepsy(TLE)is one of the most common medically intractable seizure ***2.and NcK-interacting kinase(TNIK)has recently attracted attention as a critical modulation target of many neurological and psychiatric disorders,but its role in epilepsy remains *** this study,we hypothesized the involvement of TNIK in epilepsy and investigated TNIK expression in patients with intractable TLE and in a pilocarpineinduced rat model of epilepsy by western blotting,immunofluorescence,and immunohistochemistry.A pentylenetetrazole(PTZ)-induced epilepsy rat model was used to determine the effect of the TNIK inhibitor NCB-0846 on behavioral manifestations of ***(Co-IP)/mass spectrometry(MS)was used to identify the potential *** Co-IP,we detected and confirmed the main potential TNIK *** fractionation was used to establish the effect of NCB-0846 on the expression of the main interactors in postsynaptic density(PSD)*** found that TNIK was primarily located in neurons and decreased significantly in epilepsy model rats and TLE patients compared with ***-0846 delayed kindling progression and decreased seizure ***-IP/MS identified 63 candidate TNIK interactors in rat hippocampi,notably ***-IP showed that TNIK might correlate with endogenous GRIA1,SYN2.PSD-95,CaMKIV,GABRG1,and *** addition,the significant decrease in GRIA1 in hippocampal total lysate and PSDs after NCB-0846 treatment might help modify the progression of PTZ *** results suggest that TNIK contributes to epileptic pathology and is a potential antiepileptic drug target.

Na_(3)P interphase reduces Na nucleation energy enabling stable anode-less sodium metal batteries

Sodium metal batteries(SMBs)are rising as viable alternatives to lithium-ion systems due to their superior energy density and sodium's relative ***,SMBs face significant impediments,particularly the exceedingly high negative-to-positive capacity ratios(N/P ratios)which severely encumber energy density and hinder their practical ***,a novel nucleophilic Na_(3)P interphase on aluminum foil has been designed to significantly lower the nucleation energy barrier for sodium atom deposition,resulting in a remarkable reduction of nucleation overpotential and efficient mitigation of dendritic growth at high sodium deposition of 5 mA h cm^(−2..The interphase promotes stable cycling in anode-less SMB configurations with a low N/P ratio of 1.4 and high cathode mass loading of 11.5 mg cm^(−2.,and demonstrates a substantial increase in high capacity retention of 92.4%after 500 cycles even under 1 C rate *** innovation signifies a promising leap forward in the development of high-energy-density,anode-less SMBs,offering a potential solution to the longstanding issues of cycle stability and energy efficiency.

Lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)have become one of the most successful energy storage systems due to their high operating voltage,high energy density,and long cycle ***,with the widespread use of LIBs in recent decades,lithium resources are at risk of being ***,it is necessary to find a substitute for LIBs to meet the needs of future large-scale energy storage *** of their competitiveness,low cost,and high safety,aqueous rechargeable zinc-ion batteries(ARZIBs)are regarded as promising components in the post-lithium-ion-battery *** the tunable composition,ordered porous channels,and controllable structure of metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)and covalent organic frameworks(COFs),these frameworks are viewed as potential materials for developing high-performance *** this review,we focus on the recent developments in the applications of MOF-/COF-based materials in ARZIBs,including in electrode materials,anode modifications,separators,and solid *** then focus on the critical factors and optimization techniques of MOF-/COF-based materials that affect the performance of ***,we conclude with some projections for the expansion of ARZIBs containing MOF-/COF-based materials.

Experimental study of human-induced effects on floor slab of an ancient Tibetan structure

With the opening of ancient Tibetan structures to visitors worldwide, human load has become the principal live load on these structures. This project studies the properties of the floor structure of an ancient Tibetan building and its behavior under human-induced load effects. Tests were conducted with static and dynamic crowd load, including stepping and jogging by people at a fixed position. The tests show that the floor structure does not behave as a continuous slab. It takes the load from local areas with minimal load transference properties. The acceleration response shows significant peaks when the footstep frequency is close to the natural frequency of the s~＇ucture, but the human jogging excitation frequency does not have any obvious effect on the structural response. The elastic modulus of the Agatu material is estimated to be close to zero from the measured natural frequency of the slab. The Agatu material is concluded to be a discrete compacted material with insignificant contribution to the structural rigidity of the floor slab.

Frequent 3p2. Allelic Loss and Methylation-Associated RASSF1A Inactivation in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer and Its Clinical Implication

A total of 110 primary NSCLCs （non-small cell lung cancers） were recruited in this study to characterize the pattern of 3p2. LOH together with the RASSF1A methylation status and their clinical implication. 3p2. LOH by 8 microsatellite markers, RASSF1A methylation status by methylation-specific PCR （MSPCR） as well as bisulfite genomic sequencing （BGS）, and RASSF1A expression level by real-time quantitative PCR was performed. 3p2. LOH is frequent in NSCLC with a mean frequency of （41.2.3.7）%. Significant associations between 3p2. LOH and gender, smoking history, histological type, and tumor size were observed. Cases with LOH have a slightly lower RASSF1A expression than cases without LOH but not statistically significant. Comparison of RASSF1A methylation that resulted from the three analyses shows significant correlations from one another. Higher frequency of methylation was observed in larger tumors and in smokers compared with smaller tumors and non-smokers, respectively. A significant correlation was also observed in extent between methylation and RASSF1A expression, illustrating that epigenetic mechanism could affect gene expression. The significant clinicopathological relations of 3p2. LOH may be of great use for both early detection and therapeutic interventions.
