1 Definitions and resultsWITH the development of the theory of dynamical systems and fractal geometry, one provedthat symbolic dynamics is a powerful tool to study chaos and fractals. It is useful to study thefractal characteristics of symbolic dynamics. In the present note we shall point out the relationbetween the dimension and measure theoretic entropy of any subshift in symbolic space. Weprove here that the Bowen’s formula for Hausdorff dimension holds without Markov struc-ture. A variational principle for dimension is obtained.

From the analysis on the problem of selection, data acquisition, quantification and accuracy check in the indicators to desertification degree both at home and abroad, one might conclude that in the existing assessment of desertification degree there is a prevailing tendency which is the substitution of absolute landscape for relative land degradation, namely, assessment of desertification degree is that of absolute landscape state to some extent. As a result the reassessment accuracy of desertification scope, damaging degree and control effect are affected. The regaining and establishment of the initial and final ecological datum level of land degradation are the prerequisite to the establishment of normal scientific indicator system. From the viewpoint of this three design principles of indicators to the desertification degree are put forward: the zonal principle of indicator systems decided by the ecological datum level corresponding to their bioclimatic zones, the hierarchical principle of indicator systems decided by different spatial scales and the resolutions of different sensors and principle of landscape types based on the 3S as core-indicator.

A series of Bi^(3+)/Eu^(3+)co-doped Ca_(2.Ta_(2.O_(7)(CTO:Bi^(3+)/Eu^(3+))phosphors were prepared by high-temperature solid-state method for dual-emission center optical thermometers and white light-emitting diode(WLED)*** modulating the doping ratio of Bi^(3+)/Eu^(3+)and utilizing the energy transfer from Bi^(3+)to Eu^(3+),the tunable color emission ranging from green to reddish-orange was *** designed CTO:0.04Bi^(3+)/Eu^(3+)optical thermometers exhibit signifcant thermochromism,superior stability,and repeatability,with maximum sensitivities of Sa=0.055 K^(−1)(at 510 K)and Sr=1.2.8%K^(−1)(at 480 K)within the temperature range of 300−510 K,owing to the diferent thermal quenching behaviors between Bi^(3+)and Eu^(3+)*** features indicate the potential application prospects of the prepared samples in visualized thermometer or hightemperature safety ***,leveraging the excellent zero-thermal-quenching performance,outstanding acid/alkali resistance,and color stability of CTO:0.04Bi^(3+)/0.16Eu^(3+)phosphor,a WLED device with a high Ra value of 95.3 has been realized through its combination with commercially available blue and green phosphors,thereby demonstrating the potential application of CTO:0.04Bi^(3+)/0.16Eu^(3+)in near-UV pumped WLED devices.

The fuzzy controllers constructed by 2. fuzzy implication operators based on CRI algorithm and their response functions are discussed. The conclusions show that the fuzzy controllers constructed by 9 fuzzy implication operators are universal approximators to continuous functions and can be used in practical fuzzy control systems. And these 9 fuzzy implication operators except for Einstein operator intersection are all the adjoint pairs of some fuzzy implication operators. Besides, there are 3 other fuzzy controllers formed by fuzzy implication operators being regarded approximately as fitted functions.

The Red Earth deposit around Xining, northeastern Tibetan Plateau, has beenstudied in terms of soil micro-structure, grain-size distribution, major- and trace-elementchemistry and magne-tostratigraphy. Field investigations indicate that the Red Earth sequenceconsists of 2. visually definable yellow-brown and weakly-developed soils interbedded with reddishstrongly-developed soils, and has a similar structure to the aeolian Red Clay deposit on the ChineseLoess Plateau. Grain-size analysis shows that the Red Earth deposit is very fine-grained with anegligible sand fraction ( > 63 μm). Thin-section observations under light microscopy show that thedeposit has a clayey texture and the coarse fraction ( > 10 μm) mainly consists of quartz,feldspar and micas. Pyroxene and hornblende were also observed. This mineralogical composition ofthe coarse fraction is similar to that of the Quaternary loess. In addition, all of the mineralgrains are semi angular semi-angular and are generally finer than 63 μm. There is a good agreementbetween the major and minor trace element chemistry of loess-soil units and the Red Earth *** REE distributions of the loess-soil and the Red Earth deposit are similar in shape, withenriched LREE and fairly flat HREE profiles and a clear negative Eu anomaly. The geochemicalcharacteristics of the Red Earth deposit are also identical to those of upper continental crust,thus indicating a wind-blown origin. Magnetostratigraphic investigation shows that onset of the RedEarth deposition predates 11.4 Ma BP (13.6 Ma at a nearby site). The distribution of the reportedMiocene aeolian loess at Qin''an of the Loess Plateau is still unknown. Our results indicate thatthis aeolian deposit had extended to the northeastern Tibetan Plateau by at least the middleMiocene. The similarity of the element geochemistry between the Red Earth deposit and the overlyingloess shows that they may have similar sources and dynamic transport system, and may indicate thatthe
