To investigate the performance of landfill composite liner system,a one-dimensional model was developed for solute transport through composite liners containing geomembrane *** analytical solution to the model was obtained by the method of Laplace *** results obtained by the presented solution agree well with those obtained by the numerical *** show that leachate head and construction quality of geomembrane(GM) have significant influences on the performance of the composite liners for heavy metal *** breakthrough time of lead decreases from 50 a to 19 a when the leachate head increases from 0.3 m to 10 *** is also indicated that the contaminant mass flux of volatile organic compounds(VOCs) induced by leakage can not be neglected in case of poor construction quality of the landfill barrier *** is shown that diffusion coefficient and partition coefficient of GM have great influences on solute transport through composite liners for *** breakthrough time of heavy metal ions will be greatly overestimated if the effects of diffusion and adsorption of clay and geosynthetic clay liner(GCL) are *** composite liner consisting of a geomembrane and a GCL provides a poor barrier for *** presented analytical solution is relatively simple to apply and can be used for preliminary design of composite liners,evaluating experimental results,and verifying more complex numerical models.

Avalanche in the chute has been studied to examine how the sizes of granules affect the angle of repose θr when the width of the chute is fixed. The results show that the angle of repose in the chute has exponential decay with λ,which is the reciprocal of granular diameter d. The fluctuation of the angle of repose is also studied during the chute being tilted,and the results indicate that the fluctuation of the angle of repose increases with the increase of granular diameter d.

The equation for the orientation probability function of slender cylindrical particles suspended in planar turbulent flows was investigated. After ensemble averaging, the equations for the mean and fluctuating probability function were derived. The equation for the fluctuating probability function appearing in the equation of mean probability function was solved by using the method of characteristics analysis. The orientational dispersion terms due to the random motion of cylindrical particles in the equation of mean probability function are related to the mean probability function and the Lagrangian fluid velocity correlations. The evolution of the mean probability function was described by a modified oriental ion-space-convection equation, where the dispersion terms account for the randomizing effect of the turbulence.

With the development of drilling technology, the oil/gas well has evolved from its early vertical straight form to the inclined, horizontal, plane curved, or even 3D curved well-bore. Understanding of the buck- ling behavior of a drill-string in a well-bore is crucial for the success of a drilling operation. Therefore, equilibrium equations for analyzing the buckling behavior of a drill-string in a 3D curved well-bore are required. Based on Love’s equilibrium equations for a curved and twisted rod in space, a set of equi- librium equations for the nonlinear buckling analysis of a drill-string in a 3D curved well-bore are de- rived by introducing a radial constraint of the well-bore. The proposed formulae can account for the well curvature and tortuosity. Thus, it can be used to analyze the buckling behaviors of a drill-string constrained in a well-bore and subjected to axial compression, torsion at its upper end, and gravity simultaneously. It is worth noting that the existing equations in the literature for a drill-string in a straight and plane curved well-bore with a constant curvature are a special case of the proposed model. Thus, the present model can provide a theoretical basis for the nonlinear buckling analysis of a drill-string constrained in a 3D curved well-bore.

Role of ethylene signaling in the production of rice volatiles induced by the rice brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens

Ethylene signaling pathway plays an important role in induced plant direct defense against herbivores and pathogens; however, up to now, only few researches have focused on its role in induced plant indirect defense, i.e. the release of herbi- vore-induced volatiles, and the results are variable. Using a model system consisting of rice plants, the rice brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens and its egg parasitoid Anagrus nilaparvatae, we examined the role of ethylene signaling in the production of rice volatiles induced by N. lugens by measuring both the timing of herbivore-induced ethylene levels and the relationships between ethylene, rice volatiles and attraction of the parasitoid. N. lugens infestation sig- nificantly enhanced the release of ethylene during 2.2. h after infestation. Plants treated with eth- ephon, a compound that breaks down to release ethylene at cytoplasmic pH, released volatiles profiles similar to those released by N. lugens-infested plants, and both of them showed an equal attraction of the parasitoid. Moreover, pretreatment with 1-MCP, an inhibitor of ethylene perception, reduced the release of most of rice volatiles whose amount was enhanced by N. lugens infestation and decreased the attrac- tiveness to the parasitoid. These results demonstrate that ethylene signaling is required for the production of rice volatiles induced by N. lugens.

The research of soil classification and soil grade evaluation is often based on fuzzy theory. So, the traditional method has an inevitable problem about weight matrix which given by some experts, and the final result can be influenced by artificial factors. The essentials of fuzzy synthetically judge is to handle the data of high dimension. That is to reducing the dimension number. The weight matrix in fuzzy theory is corresponding to low dimension projection value of each index. But we can′t define whether the weight matrix given by experts is the best projection value or not. So, the authors apply a new technique of falling dimension named projection pursuit to soil study, through using the improved real coding based accelerating genetic algorithm to optimize the projection direction. Thus, it can transfer multi dimension data into one dimension data, through searching for the optimum projection direction to realize the soil classification and its grade evaluation. The method can avoid the artificial disturbance, and acquire preferably effect. Thus, the paper provides a new method to the research of soil classification and grade evaluation.

The reduction factors p and q defined by Ham in the Ee JT system and their relation 2.-p=1 have been well accepted and the concept of reduction factors is widely used in the studies of vibronic coupling. However, when the system is under the anisotropic conditions, the reduction factors and their relation will change accordingly. The first-order reduction factors p and q of Ee system were further studied using the method of unitary transformation here. The relation between p and q proposed by Ham was investigated under both conditions of the linear coupling and the anisotropic effects. The result demonstrated that the relation of 2.-p=1 was only correct for the linear vibronic coupling, but not correct when the anisotropic effect was considered. This result suggested that the anisotropic effect influence considerably the reduction factors, and hence the physical properties of materials. Our method could be also applied to other JT systems, especially the highly symmetric JT systems involving C60 molecules.

Aim:To determine whether the anti-inflammatory effect of minocycline on postis-chemic brain injury is mediated by the inhibition of 5-lipoxygenase （5-LOX）expression and enzymatic activation in ***:Focal cerebral ischemiawas induced for 30 min with middle cerebral artery occlusion,followed *** ischemic injuries,endogenous IgG exudation,the accumulationof neutrophils and macrophage/microglia,and 5-LOX mRNA expression weredetermined 72.h after reperfusion.5-LOX metabolites （leukotriene B4and cysteinylleukotrienes） were measured 3 h after ***:Minocycline （2..5and 45 mg/kg,ip,for 3 d） attenuated ischemic injuries,IgG exudation,and theaccumulation of neutrophils and macrophage/microglia 72.h after *** inhibited 5-LOX expression 72.h after reperfusion and the production ofleukotrienes 3 h after reperfusion,Conclusion:Minocycline inhibited postis-chemic brain inflammation,which might be partly mediated by the inhibition of5-LOX expression and enzymatic activation.
