Theoretical calculation of the finishing rolling impact work in non-quenched and tempered Si-Mn steel

Based on the hot-continuous rolling technology, the finishing rolling impact work α k of the non-quenched and tempered Si-Mn steel is theoretically calculated with the covalent electron number nA of the strongest bond in alloying phases, and the smallest interface electron density difference Δρ of alloying phase interface and the number of atom states σ which keep the interface electron density continuous. Calculations show that the solution strengthening, the precipitation strengthening, and the interface strengthening will result in the decrease of the finishing rolling impact work α k, and the effects of the number of atom states σ which keep the interface electron density continuous on the finishing rolling impact work α k are different. Taking the impact work and the number of atom states σ 0 keeping the electron density continuous of the phase interface α-Fe/α-Fe-C between α-Fe and α-Fe-C as reference values, the impact work of the interface will increase when σ of some interface is larger than σ 0; otherwise, the impact will decrease. Therefore, the finishing rolling impact work α k can be calculated with the impact value of the refined α-Fe matrix and the influence amounts caused by the solution strengthening, the precipitation strengthening, the interface strengthening, and the number of atom states σ which keep the interface electron density continuous. The calculated results agree well with the measured ones. In this paper, the effect of S on the impact work is also discussed.

The newly developed full-potential linearized augmented plane wave (LAPW) and local orbitals (lo) based on standard APW methods are briefly introduced, and the structure and magnetic properties of R(Fe, Si)12.compounds (R = Y, Nd) are calculated using the method. The distribution of Si at different sites is analyzed based on total energy of one crystal unit with structure having been optimized. The characters of magnetic mo-ments, total density of states (TDOS) and partial density of states (PDOS) for different crystal sites Si occupies are obtained and analyzed. The results show that the total mag-netic moments of RFe10Si2.(R = Y, Nd) are larger than those of RFe10M2.(M = Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Mo and W) and the hybridization mechanism is seen as follows. Si(8j) reduce the mag-netic moments of Fe at three sites, however, Si(8f) mainly reduce the magnetic moments of Fe(8i) and Fe(8j) atoms. The Curie temperature is markedly enhanced by the introduc-tion of Si atoms according to spin fluctuation of DOS at Fermi level.

Analysis on ignition and extinction of n-heptane in homogeneous systems

To calculate ignition delay times, the governing equations about species and temperature, which are in a closed volume based on the theory of thermal explosion and in a continuously stirred flow reactor, are deducted. The method referred to steady state assumptions is based on the observation that due to very fast chemical processes in combustion problems many chemical species and reactions are in a quasi-steady state or partial equilibrium. When a species is assumed to be in the steady state, the corresponding differential equation can be replaced by an algebraic relation, which reduces the computational costs. The steady state solution of the reactor equations describes the three ignition temperature regimes and get “S-shaped curve”. The reduced simplified 4-step mechanism for n-heptane from 1011 elementary reactions leads with the steady state assumptions to linear differential equations, which is solved. The simulation results of the 4-step reduced mechanism for n-heptane are fitted well with the experiment data. At last, two important parameters are discussed thoroughly and the temperature perturbation is given. It reduces the computational efforts considerably without losing too much accuracy and further supplies numerical methods for turbulent combustion in the diesel engine.

The numerical method for three-dimensional impact with friction of multi-rigid-body system

The differential equations for planar impacts reduce to an algebraic form, and can be easily solved. For three dimensional impacts with friction, there is no closed-form solution, and numerical integration is required due to the swerve behavior of tangential impulse during collisions. The dynamic governing equations in the impact process are built up in impulse space based on the Lagrangian equation in this paper. The coefficient of restitution defined by Poisson is used as the condition of impact termination. A valid nu- merical method for solving three-dimensional frictional impact of multi-rigid body system is established. The singular cases of tangential movement in sticking point are especially noticed and analyzed. Several examples are present to reveal the different kinds of tan- gential movement modes varied with the normal impulse during collision.

Experimental study on bed-load sediment transport under irregular wave and current combined flow

Using an irregularly oscillating tray and flume, a series of experiments are completed to evaluate bed-load sediment transport rate under irregular wave -current coexistent field. Testing conditions include three interaction angles 0', 45', 90' and two kinds of median sizes (0.3. and 1.10 mm). The results of transport rate show that the net sediment transport rate can be expressed approximately as the function of the maximum bottom shear stress of waves, mean shear stress of current and the grain size.

An effective and practical method for solving an unnegligible problem inherent in the current calculation model for multi-support seismic analysis of structures

In the seismic analysis of extended structures subject to spatially varying motions, the displacement input model instead of acceleration model is usually adopted for accurate results. In this paper, a more detailed and comprehensive analysis of the displacement input model is carried out and the research shows that there exists an unnegligible problem in the current displacement model, which leads to the irrationality and unconvergence of some calculated results such as base shear etc. Based on the situation, an effective method named massless rigid element (MRE) method is presented to solve the problem. Moreover, the rationality and accuracy of the method are further assessed and the method is applied to a transmission tower-line system project using the commercially available structural analysis software SAP2.00. The theoretical and numerical analyses indicate that the MRE approach is not only feasible with sufficient computational accuracy but also practical and can be easily implemented using the commercially available finite element software such as SAP2.00.

Non-isothermal Melt Crystallization Kinetics of Anhydrite-Filled Polypropylene Composites

The non-isothermal crystallization kinetics of polypropylene （PP）, PP/anhydrite composites were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry （DSC） with various cooling rates. The Avrami analysis modified by Jeziorny and a method developed by Mo were employed to describe the non-isothermal crystallization process of these samples. The difference in the exponent n between PP and PP/anhydrite composites indicated that non-isothermal kinetic crystallization corresponded to tri-dimensional growth with heterogeneous nucleation. The values of half-time, Zc and F（T） showed that the crystallization rate increased with the increasing of cooling rates for PP and PP/anhydrite composites, but the crystallization rate of PP/anhydrite composites was faster than that of PP at a given cooling rate. The method developed by Ozawa did not describe the non-isothermal crystallization process of PP very well. Moreover, the method proposed by Kissinger was used to evaluate the activation energy of the mentioned samples. The result showed that the activation energy of PP/anhydrite was greatly larger than that of PP.

Experiment and Numerical Simulation on Axial Compressive Performance of Autoclaved Fly Ash Solid Brick Masonry Columns

To study the influence of slenderness on the axial compressive performance of autoclaved fly ash solid brick masonry columns, compression experiments were conducted on 12.samples of autoclaved fly ash solid brick masonry column and 4 samples of fired clay brick masonry column. The damage patterns and compressive performance were compared and analyzed. The experimental results indicate that the compressive bearing capacity decreases as slenderness increases from 3.to 18, and the compressive bearing capacity of the autoclaved fly ash solid brick masonry columns is lower than that of the fired clay brick masonry columns. The formulae for the axial compressive bearing capacity of autoclaved fly ash solid brick masonry columns were derived based on the experiments. The nonlinear FEA program ANSYS was adopted to simulate the behaviors of masonry columns. By comparing the simulation results and experimental results, it is shown that the simulation results agree well with the experimental ones. The rationality and applicability of the simulation results were verified.

Debating about the climate warming

Debating about the climate warming is reviewed. Discussions have focused on the validity of the temperature reconstruction for the last millennium made by Mann et al. Arguments against and for the reconstruction are introduced. Temperature reconstructions by other authors are examined, including the one carried out by Wang et al. in 1996. It is concluded that: (1) Ability of reproducing temperature variability of time scale less than 10 a is limited, so no sufficient evidence proves that the 1990s was the warmest decade, and 1998 was the warmest year over the last millennium. (2. All of the temperature reconstructions by different authors demonstrate the occurrence of the MWP (Medieval Warm Period) and LIA (Little Ice Age) in low frequency band of temperature variations, though the peak in the MWP and trough in LIA varies from one reconstruction to the others. Therefore, terms of MWP and LIA can be used in studies of climate change. (3. The warming from 1975 to 2.00 was significant, but we do not know if it was the strongest for the last millennium, which needs to be proved by more evidence.

Preparation and Electrochemical Studies of Y-doped LiVPO_4F Cathode Materials for Lithium-ion Batteries

Y-doped LiVPO4F cathode materials were prepared by a carbothermal reduction（CTR） process. The properties of the Y-doped LiVPOaF samples were investigated by X-ray diffraction （XRD） and electrochemical measurements. XRD studies show that the Y-doped LiVPOaF samples have the same triclinic structure as the undoped LiVPO4F. The Li extraction/insertion performances of Y-doped LiVPO4F samples were investigated through charge/discharge, cyclic voltammogram （CV） , and electrochemical impedance spectra（EIS）. The optimal doping content of Y is x=0.04 in LiYxV1-xPO4F system. The Y-doped LiVPO4F samples show a better cyclic ability. The electrode reaction reversibility is enhanced, and the charge transfer resistance is decreased through the Y-doping. The improved electrochemical performances of the Y-doped LiVF＇OaF cathode materials are atlributed to the addidon of Y^3. ion by stabilizing the Iriclinic structure.
