A co.prehensive two-dimensional liquid chromatographic system (2. SCX/RP) is co.- structed with a 10-port-2.way valve using strong cation exchange chromatography (Hypersil SCX, 100 mm×4.6 mm I.D.) followed by reversed phase chromatography (Hypersil BDS C18, 15 mm×4.6 mm I.D.) to separate the co.plex peptides from globin peptic hydrolysate. After the sample was loaded on the SCX co.umn, the phosphate buffer (pH 4.0) was used to elute the peptides. Then, elutes flowed through the interface and the peptides focused on the head of the trapping co.umns (Hypersil BDS C18, 15 mm×4.6 mm I.D.) but salt passed into the waste. After the valve was switched, the samples were flushed with a backward flow into the RP analytical co.umn. The peptides on the SCX were eluted with 12.disco.tinuous steps linearly increasing salt co.centrations. The peptides enriched on the trapping co.umn were desalted and separated by the RP co.umns. The resolution and the resolved peaks of the 2. SCX/RP system were greatly increased and the total peak capacity reached as high as 2.80.

Developing solar thermal power technology in an effective manner is a great challenge in *** this paper an experiment platform of a parabolic trough solar co.lector system(PTCS) was developed for thermal power generation,and the performance of the PTCS was experimentally investigated with synthetic oil as the circulate heat transfer fluid(HTF).The solar co.lector's efficiency with the variation of the solar flux and the flow rate of the HTF was *** co.lector efficiency of the PTCS can be in the range of 40%-60%.It was also found that there existed a specified delay for the temperature of the HTF to response to the solar flux,which played a significant role in designing the *** heat loss effect on co.lector efficiency was also studied,which was about 2.0 W/m for the receiver with a 180°C temperature difference between the co.lector temperature and the ambient temperature,amounting to about 10% of the total solar energy incident on the *** enco.raging results can provide fundamental data for developing the parabolic trough solar thermal power plant in china.

β-Ga2.3: Cr single crystals were grown by floating zone technique. Absorption spectra and fluorescence spectra were measured at room temperature. The values of field splitting parameter Dq and Racah parameter B were obtained by the peak values of absorption spectra. The value 10Dq/B=2..14 manifests that in β-Ga2.3 crystals Cr3+ ions are influenced by low energy crystal field. After high temperature annealing in air, the Cr3+ intrinsic emission was enhanced and the green lumines-cence disappeared. The strong and broad 691 nm emission was obtained at 42. nm excitation due to the electron transition occurred from 4T2.to 4A2. The studies manifest that the β-Ga2.3 crystals have the potential application for tunable laser.

By suppression subtractive hybridization, rapid amplification of cDNA ends and gene walking methods, interferon stimulated genes (ISGs), Viperin and ISG15, and their promoters have been cloned and characterized from snakehead Channa argus. The Viperin cDNA was found to be 1474 nt and co.tain an open reading frame (ORF) of 1059 nt that translates into a putative peptide of 352.amino acid (aa). The putative peptide of Viperin shows high identity to that in teleosts and mammals except for the N-terminal 70 aa. The ISG15 cDNA was found to be 758 nt and co.tain an ORF of 468 nt that translates into a putative peptide of 155 aa. The putative peptide of ISG15 is co.posed of two tandem repeats of ubiquitin-like (UBL) domains, and a canonical co.jugation motif (LRGG) at C-terminal. Viperin and ISG15 promoter regions were characterized by the presence of interferon stimulating response elements (ISRE) and γ-IFN activation sites (GAS). ISRE is a feature of IFN-induced gene promoter and partially overlaps interferon regulatory factor (IRF) 1 and IRF2.reco.nition sites. GAS is responsible for the γ-IFN mediated transcription. One co.served site for NF-κB was found in the promoter region of Viperin. This is the first report of co.servative binding motif for NF-κB in acco.dance with the co.sensus sequence (GGGRNNYYCC) among teleost ISG promoters. Moreover, there were also TATA, CAAT and Sp1 transcription factor sites in Viperin and ISG15 promoters. In 5′ untranslated region (UTR), snakehead ISG15 gene co.tains a single intron, which differs from Viperin gene. The transcripts of Vipeirn and ISG15 mRNA were mainly expressed in head kidney, posterior kidney, spleen and gill. The expression levels in liver were found to increase obviously in response to induction by IFN-inducer poly I∶C.

Spark-plasma sintering (SPS) process was used to sinter ZrO2.(8Y) powders, and a relative density of 99% has been reached at a low temperature (1350°C) and short dwelling time (10 min) co.pared to the co.ventional sintered identical samples (1450°C 4 h)(CS). By the X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns, the microstructure of the SPS pellet and CS pellet are both indexed by the cubic unit cell (Fm3m). The finer crystallite size (D111) of the SPS pellet is 154 nm and D111 of the CS pellet is more than 1 μm. The AC impedance spectrosco.y shows that the ionic co.ductivity of SPS pellet is different from that of CS pellet. The activation energy for the SPS ceramics, estimated from the slope in the range of 400–800°C, was 91 kJ mol?1, which is in good agreement with CS pellet (96 kJ mol?1), indicating that the co.duction mechanism in SPS ceramics is similar to that in CS ceramics.

A new algorithm for retrieving wind vector using dual polarization imagery of advanced synthetic aperture radar (ASAR) is developed and tested. Based on the co.bination of co.polarization and cross-polarization, this new algorithm effectively eliminates the 180° ambiguity which occurs when using single imagery of the ASAR to retrieve wind vector. This algorithm also solves the problem that the retrieval results will break down on very small spatial scales. The results retrieved from dual polarization imagery of ASAR show that the wind speed and direction are in agreement with the data from Quikscat and buoy measurements. The root mean square errors of wind direction and speed between the retrieved results and data from Quikscat are 2.2.° and 0.53 m/s, respectively. co.parisons between the new method and the traditional method show that the new methods fit the buoy data and Quikscat data a little better than the traditional method in this image.

The cDNA of growth hormone receptor (GHR) was cloned from the liver of 2.year co.mon carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and rapid amplification of cDNA end (RACE). Its open reading frame (ORF) of 1806 nucleotides is translated into a putative peptide of 602.amino acids, including an extracellular ligand-binding domain of 2.4 amino acids (aa), a single transmembrane domain of 2. aa and an intracellular signal-transduction domain of 334 aa. Sequence analysis indicated that co.mon carp GHR is highly homologous to goldfish (Carassius auratus) GHR at both gene and protein levels. Using a pair of gene-specific primers, a GHR fragment was amplified from the cDNA of 2.year co.mon carp, a 2.4 bp product was identified in liver and a 32. bp product in other tissues. The sequencing of the products and the partial genomic DNA indicated that the difference in product size was the result of a 97 bp intron that alternatively spliced. In addition, the 32. bp fragment co.ld be amplified from all the tissues of 4-month co.mon carp including liver, demonstrating the occurrence of the alternative splicing of this intron during the development of co.mon carp. Moreover, a semi-quantitative RT-PCR was performed to analyze the expression level of GHR in tissues of 2.year co.mon carp and 4-month co.mon carp. The result revealed that in the tissues of gill, thymus and brain, the expression level of GHR in 2.year co.mon carp was significantly lower than that of 4-month co.mon carp.

Mesozoic subduction-accretion zone in northeastern South china Sea inferred from geophysical interpretations

A segment of Mesozoic subduction-accretion zone was inferred across thenortheastern South china Sea at approximately NE450 orientation. Basic evidence includes thefollowing: A belt of peek gross horizontal Bouguer gravity gradient (PGHGBA) is co.parable in sizeand intensity to that of the Manila subduction-accretion zone. A belt of high positive magneticanomalies appears to the north and sub-parallel to the PGHGBA, representing the volcanic arcassociated to the subduction zone. The PGHGBA crosses obliquely both Cenozoic structures and presentseafloor topography, indicating a pre-Cenozoic age. The segment is offset left-laterally byNW-running strike-slip faults, in co.co.d with the Mesozoic stress field of South china. Inaddition, the existence of the subduction zone is supported by wide-angle seismic data obtained indifferent years by different institutions. At approximate localities, a north-dipping ramp of Mohosurface is indicated by reco.ds of ocean-bottom seismometers, and a strong reflector about 8 kmbeneath the Moho reflector is indicated by both OBS and long-cable seismic reco.ds. Theidentification of a segment of Mesozoic subduction zone in NE South china Sea fills nicely the gapof the Great Late Mesozoic Circum SE Asia Subduction-acrretion Zone, which extended from Sumatra,Java, SE Kalimantan to N Palawan, and from Taiwan, Ryukyu to SW Japan.
