Similar to compositional evolution of sandstone modes and detrital heavy minerals from different profiles in the Kuqa Depression, Northwest china, major element analysis of whole sandstones from the same profiles shows four discontinuous depositional interfaces or periods, respectively corresponding to Lower Triassic\Middle Triassic, Upper Jurassic\Lower Cretaceous, Lower Cretaceous\Paleogene and Miocene\Pliocene, and indicates five-phase evolution during Mesozoic-Cenozoic: (1) From the first to fifth phase, a depositional suite changes from maroon and coarse clastic, through grey-dark grey and fine, red and coarse, red-mottled, interlayered by gypsum, to brown and coarse clastic assemblages, accompanying detrital component evolution in unstable-stable-unstable-very unstable-very unstable assem- blages. It is indicated that carbonate and complex detritus gradually dominate in sandstones in post-Late Jurassic, with rapid reduction of compositional maturity. (2. For major element geo- chemical parameters of whole sandstones, CaO and Fe2.O * 3.MgO contents show a change sequence in high-low-high-higher-highest values, with rapid increasing in post-Late Jurassic. (3. Contra some aggregative indicators for weathering indexes of sandstone detrital component, Al2.3.(CaO+Na2.) and ln(Q/(L+CE)), show a change sequence in low-high-low-lower-lowest ratios, with rapid decreasing in post-Late Jurassic. It is found that sandstone samples of the first, second and later three phases may be distinguished from the A-CN-K and A-CNK-FM diagrams respectively. Therefore, in the Kuqa Depression-Tianshan, the most important discontinuous depositional interface recording paleotectonic and paleoclimatic transition occurred in Early Triassic\Middle Triassic and Late Jurassic\Early Cretaceous, respectively, and, however, tec- tonic differentiations of basin-range system finally result in distinct depositional systems but similar detrital weathering indexes across the Lower Cretaceous\Paleogene

A new method for spatio-temporal prediction of rainfall-induced landslide

Geological condition and rainfall are two most principal conditions inducing landslides in the Chongqing region. By analyzing the forming conditions of rainfall-induced landslides, a new method for spatio-temporal prediction of rainfall-induced landslide is brought forward on the basis of grading and overlapping geological condition and rainfall factor in this paper. At first, semi-quantitative assessment and grading for the geological condition of a certain area or slope can be carried out with the multi-factor interactive matrix. Then the severity of rainfall in that area is grading according to the maximum daily rainfall and the total rainfall in a rainfall course. Finally, the “landslide probability judgement factor” can be worked out through grading and overlapping “geological condition influenc- ing factor” and “rainfall influencing factor”, by which the landslide can be graded into 4 grades, they are landslide extremely easily happening, landslide easily happening, landslide difficultly happening and landslide hardly ever happening respectively. More accurate spatio-temporal prediction of rain- fall-induced landslides can come true on the ground of detailed geological survey of some dangerous slopes in an area and more precise weather forecast. Finally, the reliability and feasibility of carrying out the spatio-temporal prediction of rainfall-induced landslides with the method of “two factors” grading and overlapping are validated by the example of Jipazi landslide.

It is always difficult to extract population in-formation of small watershed during the region environment assessment. The report adopted compound areal interpola-tion to study the population in Chaohu watershed with the GIS technique and landuse interpretation data from remote sensing. The result indicated that the method is effective to extract population information of small watershed.

Critical slope gradient for compulsory abandonment of farmland on the hilly Loess Plateau

Scientific evidence for the upper limit of farmland is proposed. Shallow gully erosion is one of erosion types distributed extensively on sloping farmland in the hilly regions of the Loess Plateau. Field observation and aerial photos interpretation, as well as laboratory experiments show that the shallow gully erosion occurring on the steeper farmland in the hilly regions of the Loess Plateau is an important factor leading to intensive erosion on slope, because of its extensive distribution and intensive runoff collection. The data on the formation, development and distribution of shallow gullies on sloping farmland indicate that critical slope gradient for shallow gully initiation ranges from 15 to 2. degrees with an average of 18.2.degrees. Therefore, it is suggested that critical slope gradient for compulsory abandonment of farmland on the hilly Loess Plateau should be kept within the critical slope gradient for shallow gully initiation to prevent shallow gully formation in order to control soil loss more effectively. But as the first step, the cultivation on the slopes with slope larger than 2. degrees where the maximum erosion occurs should be strictly forbidden.

Polarizable electrodes of electric double layer capacitor (EDLCs) were made from carbon nanotubes. Effects of different binders, which are phenolic resin (PF) and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), on the properties of polarizable electrodes are studied. Results indicate that the microstructure, pore size distribution and specific capacitance of the electrodes with PTFE binder are superior to those electrodes with PF binder after carbonization. The suitable binder (PTFE) for carbon nanotubes electrodes is proposed.

We analyzed vertical distributions of ozone (O3. in the lower troposphere (3..3.°N), Zhejiang Province using electrochemical concen- tration cell (ECC) ozonesonde data obtained from February 2. to April 13. 2.01. The results showed that the vertical O3.distributions are controlled by metrological conditions and the char- acteristics of O3.profiles are related to those of wet bulb potential temperature and wind field. O3.below 2.km showed that the strongest variability and enhanced O3.mixing ratios were associated with easterly winds that blow pollutants from the upwind source region of the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region. Vertical O3.profiles below 5 km can be grouped into 5 categories: (1) peak mixing ratio type, (2. well-mixed type, (3. layered-structure type, (4) episodic pollution type and (5) alti- tudinal increasing type. Vertical distributions of O3.affected by regional transport of polluted air masses were investigated. Transport of polluted air from high latitudes of northern china, ac- companying subsiding motion of air and stagnant atmospheric conditions are important factors that lead to high mixing ratios of O3.at Lin’an. The stagnant atmospheric conditions associated with a continental high pressure system and pollution plume transported from the YRD and cen- tral-eastern china also lead to regional accumulation of O3.and high O3.mixing ratio at Lin’an. Long-range transport of O3.and pollutants from the Pearl River Delta in South china and in-situ O3.formation also resulted in elevated O3.mixing ratios at around 1 km altitudes and layered O3.distribution in the lower troposphere.

Human hepatopoietin augmenter of liver regeneration──A hepatotrophic factor for liver regeneration, and its potential antihepatitis effect in vivo

The effect of human hapatopoietin i.e. augmenter of liver regeneration (hALR) was determined on hepatocyte DNA synthesis, and on CCl 4-induced hepatitis in animal in vitro and in vivo. It is found that ALR could directly stimulate DNA synthesis of hepatocytes in primary culture in a dose-dependent manner. In 3.% hepatectomied rats, significant DNA synthesis occurred in control rats ; even so, exogenous hALR gene encoding protein increased DNA synthesis of regeneration liver by 2.3.fold compared with control rats. A lower dose of CCl 4 was administrated in rats and the effect of ALR on DNA synthesis of regenerating liver 48 h after CCl 4 administration was analyzed. Few Budr-labeled hepatocytes were visible in control rats. However, exogenous hALR markedly increased the number of labeled cells in a dose-dependent manner. Statistical analysis showed that 10 or 40 μg·kg -1 ALR protein stimulated DNA synthesis by 1.7 and 4.8 fold respectively. In addition to enhancing cell growth, adiministration of hALR achieved a significant improvement in reversing the lethality of rat hepatic failure when compared with that of control group; the elevation of cytosolic enzymes was dramatically suppressed by exogenous hALR in CCl 4-treated mice in vivo and in vitro; histologically, hepatocytes around the central vein were necrotic, and the degree of hepatocyte necrosis in control mice was more prominent than that in the mice given 40 μg·kg-1 hALR 48 h after CCl 4 administration. We also noted that hALR had a strong antihepatitis effect in vitro which was determined with primary cultured rat hepatocytes. These findings suggest that hALR protects the integrity of hepatocytes against severe hepatitis, and indicate that ALR may be an important regulator of liver regeneration and play a major role in liver injury repair. It proves ALR adminstration to be a useful treatment to accelerate liver regeneration and to prevent the onset of hepatitis or intrahepatic cholestasis induced by toxin.

The formation of eukaryotic mRNAs involves the cleavage and polyadenylation of pre- mRNAs. To investigate the sequence requirement of putative polyadenylation signals (PASs), poly(A) sites and downstream elements (DUEs) in 3.-end-pro- cessing in rice, we compared expressed sequences tags (ESTs) with poly(A) extremity to full-length cDNA sequences and constructed a database of 12.69 pre- mRNA sequences in ?40―+40 nt surrounding the poly(A) sites, which were from 9953.genes. The al- ternative poly(A) sites were revealed in approxi- mately 2.% of mRNAs. Nearly 80% of pre-mRNAs showed stringent requirement of the YA (CA or UA) at poly (A) sites for polyadenylation. About 7.9% had the AAUAAA signals on ?40―?1 nt upstream of the poly(A) sites. Over 60% of mRNAs probably used the one- or two-base variants of AAUAAA hexamers as their PASs in 3. fragments. The single-base variants of AAUGAA revealed the high frequency in 11.5% of 3. fragments. The DUEs were detected in 90% of pre- mRNAs, especially more than half of the pre-mRNAs with multi-base variants of AAUAAA had the DUEs surrounding the poly(A) site. The location of DUE is also important for defining the cleavage site. Al- though most of the rice pre-mRNAs did not contain AAUAAA signal, the existence of downstream ele- ments ensured the efficiency of cleavage-polyade-

The methods of unmanned aerial vehicles images splicing rapidly and rectifying without control points data, only using auxiliary data recorded by unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) system, were researched. Two algorithms were proposed, including UAV images auto- splicing rapidly after image blocking and UAV images rectifying based on pseudo center points of auxiliary data. When SIFT algorithm for UAV images splicing is applied, the accuracy is very high, but the efficiency is very low. The splicing efficiency is improved greatly based on SIFT algorithm after image blocking. The results show that rectifying accuracy is very high and has no visual dislocation when pseudo center points of auxiliary data is applied.

Transparent γ-LiAlO2.single crystal has been grown by Temperature Gradient technique. The surface of the wafer annealed in O2.atmosphere at 1100°C for 70 h became opaque and Li-poor phase (LiAl5O8); while, that annealed in Li-rich atmosphere kept transparent and smooth. The full-width at half maximum value dropped to 3. arcsecs when the wafer was annealed in Li-rich atmosphere. That annealed in O2.atmosphere increased to 78 arcsec. Compared with absorption spectra, we can conclude that the 196 nm absorption peak was caused by Li vacancies and the 73. nm peak was caused by O vacancies.
