Stability of a linear oscillator with damping force of the fractional-order derivative

It begins with the study of damping representation of a linear vibration system of single degree of freedom (SDOF),from the view point of fractional calculus. By using the idea of stability switch,it shows that the linear term involving the fractional-order derivative of an order between 0 and 2.always acts as a damping force,so that the unique equilibrium is asymp-totically stable. Further,based on the idea of stability switch again,the paper proposes a scheme for determining the stable gain region of a linear vibration system under a fractional-order control. It shows that unlike the classical velocity feedback which can adjust the damping force only,a fractional-order feedback can adjust not only the damping force,but also the elastic re-storing force,and in addition,a fractional-order PDα control can either enlarge the stable gain region or narrow the stable gain region. For the dynamic systems described by integer-order derivatives,the asymptotical stability of an equilibrium is guaranteed if all characteristic roots stay in the open left half-plane,while for the systems with fractional-order derivatives,the asymptotical stability of an equilibrium is guaranteed if all characteristic roots stay within a sector in the complex plane. Analysis shows that the proposed method,based on the idea of stability switch,works effectively in the stability analysis of dynamical systems with fractional-order derivatives.

This paper presents an investigation on the phenomenon of delayed bifurcation in time-delayed slow-fast differential *** the two delayed's have different *** delayed bifurcation means that the bifurcation does not happen immediately at the bifurcation point as the bifurcation parameter passes through some bifurcation point,but at some other point which is above the bifurcation point by an obvious *** a time-delayed system,the evolution of the system depends not only on the present state but also on past *** this paper,the time-delayed slow-fast system is firstly simplified to a slow-fast system without time delay by means of the center manifold reduction,and then the so-called entry-exit function is defined to characterize the delayed bifurcation on the basis of Neishtadt's *** shows that delayed Hopf bifurcation exists in time-delayed slow-fast systems,and the theoretical prediction on the exit-point is in good agreement with the numerical calculation,as illustrated in the two illustrative examples.

Resolution method for overlapping peaks based on the fractional-order differential

Equations between the differential order and the maximum of the fractional-order differential for the specified peak signals are developed based on the variation of the maximum of the specified peak signals at different orders. Also, equations between the differential order and the zero-crossing of the fractional-order differential of the specified peak signals are proposed according to the variation of the zero-crossing of the specified peak signals at different orders. Characteristic paramters of the Gaus- sian peak, Lorentzian peak, and Tsallis peak can be estimated using estimator I and estimator II which are obtained by the equations above. As a result, a new method is presented to resolve the overlapped peaks signal. Firstly, a fractional-order differential of the specified peak signals is obtained with the fractional-order differentiation filter. Then, characteristic paramters of the specified peak signals can be extracted using estimator I and estimator II. Finally, the Tsallis peak is used as a model to assign the overlapping peak signals correctly. Experimental results show that the proposed method is efficient and effective for the simulated overlapping peaks and detected overlapping voltammetric peak signals.

The decentralized H-infinity control problem for discrete-time singular large-scale systems is considered. Based on the bounded real lemma of discrete-time singular systems, a sufficient condition for the existence of decentralized H-infinity controller for discrete-time singular large-scale systems is presented in terms of the solvability to a certain system of linear matrix inequalities by linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach, and the feasible solutions to the system of LMIs provide a parameterized representation of a set of decentralized H-infinity controller. The given example shows the application of the method.

The circular packing problem with equilibrium constraints is an optimization problem about simplified satellite module layout design.A heuristic algorithm based on tabu search is put forward for solving this *** algorithm begins from a random initial configuration and applies the gradient method with an adaptive step length to search for the minimum energy *** jump out of the local minima and avoid the search doing repeated work,the algorithm adopts the strategy of tabu *** the process of tabu search,we improve the traditional neighboring solutions,tabu objects and the acceptance criteria of the current solution *** test two sets of benchmarks consisting of 11 representative instances from the current *** numerical results show that the proposed algorithm breaks the records in seven out of 11 instances,and obtains the optimal solutions for the other four instances.

Effects of shear keys on nonlinear seismic responses of an arch-gravity dam

In the paper,the added tangential nonlinear springs are introduced to represent the effects of one-way and two-way shear keys. The added tangential stiffness coefficient is relative to the joint opening and the relative tangential movement and determined numerically by using a refined model of shear *** user subroutine of nonlinear spring elements has been implemented into ABAQUS *** seismic responses of an arch-gravity dam are mainly *** is shown by the results that a significant increase of about 17%-30%in joint opening can be observed for the dam with one-way shear keys;the two-way shear keys are beneficial to restrain the sliding displacement along both the radial and vertical directions,whereas the one-way shear keys mainly restrain the displacement along the radial direction;for the dam with shear keys,the maximum arch stress is increased,the cantilever stress is reduced,and the location of the maximum cantilever stress is also moved from the dam heel to the midheight of the cantilever.

Tribological Properties of Dimpled Surface Alloying Layer on Carbon Steel

The effect of surface structure and coating on tribological properties of 45^# carbon steel disc was analyzed. A Nd：YAG laser was used to generate rnicrodirnples on steel surfaces. Dimples with diameter of 150 rn and depth of 50 rn were distributed in an orbicular array on disc surface. Then the alloying element Mo was sputtered to 45# carbon steel disc surface by means of double glow plasma technology. Diffusion Mo alloying layer with 30min thickness and high hardness up to 0.02. was formed on the disc surface. Tribological experiments of three types samples （smooth, texturing and texturing＋alloying） were conducted with a pin-on-disc tribometer. It is found that the dimpled-samples are most effective for reducing friction in comparison with smooth steel surthces, improving the lubricating state from boundary to hydrodynamic region.

Polyethylenimine (PEI) has been known as an efficient gene carrier with the highest cationiccharge *** transfection efficiency of PEI,along with its cytotoxicity,strongly depends on itsmolecular *** enhance its gene delivery efficiency and minimize cytotoxicity,we have synthesizedsmall cross-linked PEI with biodegradable linkages and evaluated their transfection efficiencies in *** study,branched PEI with a molecular weight of 800 Da was cross-linked by small diacrylate[1,4-butanediol diacrylate or ethyleneglycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA)] for 2.6 *** efficiencies of thecross-linked PEI in in vitro transfection of plasmid DNA containing enhanced green fluorescent protein(EGFP) reporter gene were assessed in melanoma B 16F10 cell line and other cell *** cytometrywas used to quantify the cellular entry efficiency of plasmid and the transgene expression *** of the cross-linked PEI in these cells were evaluated by MTT ***-PEI 800-4h,atypical cross-linked PEI reported here,mediated a more efficient expression of reporter gene than thecommercially available 2.-kDa branched PEI control,and resulted in a 9-fold increase in gene deliveryin B16F10 cells and a 16-fold increase in 2.3T cells,while no cytotoxicity was found at the optimizedcondition for gene ***,the transfection activity of polyplexes was preserved in thepresence of serum proteins.

Molecular dynamics simulation study on zwitterionic structure to maintain the normal conformations of Glutathione

Molecular dynamics simulations were applied to normal conformational Glutathione (GSH) and GSH over zwitterionic and hydrophobic surfaces respectively. Conformational analysis of GSH during the simulation time on RMSD, conformational flexibility and dihedral distribution were performed. The re- sults showed that zwitterionic structure maintains the normal conformations of GSH to a better extent, which should be a first good proof of the hypothesis of "maintain of normal structure".

Adsorption of surfactants onto acrylic ester resins with different pore size distribution

In this study, a series of acrylic ester resins with different pore size distribution were prepared successfully by varying the type and the amount of pore-forming agents. In order to inves-tigate the adsorption behavior and mechanism of surfactants on acrylic ester resins, three kinds of surfactants were utilized as adsorbates that were sodium 6-dodecyl benzenesulfonate (6-NaDBS), sodium 1-dodecyl benzene sulfonate (1-NaDBS) and sodium 1-dodecyl sulfonate, respectively. It was observed that the surface area was available in a particular pore size and an appropriate pore size of resins appeared to be more important for the adsorption of surfactants. As compared to commercial acrylic ester resins XAD-7 and HP2.G, 50# and 38# resins exhibited more excellent adsorption properties toward 1-NaDBS and 6-NaDBS. The experimental equilibrium data were fitted to the Langmuir, and double-Langmuir models. Two models provided very good fittings for all resins over the temperature range studied. The investigation indicated that electrostatic attraction and hydrogen bond between resins and surfactants were the main forces and had an obvious effect on adsorption proc-ess.
