SHRIMP zircon U-Pb geochronology of early Mesozoic felsic igneous rocks from the southern Lancangjiang and its tectonic implications

The SHRIMP zircon U-Pb geochronology of three typical samples, including two monzo nitic granites from the Lincang batholith and a rhyolite from the Manghuai Formation are presented in the southern Lancangjiang, western Yunnan Province. The analyses of zircons for the biotite monzonitic granites from the northern (02.X-137) and southern (2.JH-10) Lincang batholith show the single and tight clusters on the concordia, and yield the weighted mean 2.6Pb/2.8U ages of 2.9.4.± 3.0 Ma and 2.0.4.± 3.6 Ma, respectively, representing the crystallized ages of these granites. The zircons for the rhyolitic sample (02.X-95) from the Manghuai Formation give a weighted mean 2.6Pb/2.8U age of 2.1.0 ± 5.0 Ma. These data suggest that the igneous rocks from the Lincang granitic batholith and Manghuai Formation have a similar crystallized age. In combination with other data, it is inferred that both were generated at a narrow age span (~2.0 Ma) and were originated from the postcollisional tectonic regime. An early Proterozoic 2.6Pb/2.8U apparent age of 1977±4. Ma is additionally obtained from one zircon from the biotite monzonitic granite (southern Lincang batholith), indicative of devel- opment of the early Proterozoic Yangtze basement in the region. These precisely geochronological data provide important constraints on better understanding the Paleozoic tectonic evolution of the Tethys, western Yunnan Province.

Molecular cloning of growth hormone receptor (GHR) from common carp(Cyprinus carpio L.)and identification of its two forms of mRNA transcripts

The cDNA of growth hormone receptor (GHR) was cloned from the liver of 2.year common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and rapid amplification of cDNA end (RACE). Its open reading frame (ORF) of 1806 nucleotides is translated into a putative peptide of 602.amino acids, including an extracellular ligand-binding domain of 2.4.amino acids (aa), a single transmembrane domain of 2. aa and an intracellular signal-transduction domain of 334.aa. Sequence {4. indicated that common carp GHR is highly homologous to goldfish (Carassius auratus) GHR at both gene and protein levels. Using a pair of gene-specific primers, a GHR fragment was amplified from the cDNA of 2.year common carp, a 2.4.bp product was identified in liver and a 32. bp product in other tissues. The sequencing of the products and the partial genomic DNA indicated that the difference in product size was the result of a 97 bp intron that alternatively spliced. In addition, the 32. bp fragment could be amplified from all the tissues of 4.month common carp including liver, demonstrating the occurrence of the alternative splicing of this intron during the development of common carp. Moreover, a semi-quantitative RT-PCR was performed to analyze the expression level of GHR in tissues of 2.year common carp and 4.month common carp. The result revealed that in the tissues of gill, thymus and brain, the expression level of GHR in 2.year common carp was significantly lower than that of 4.month common carp.

The buildings and structures of mines were monitored automatically using modern surveying technology. Through the analysis of the monitoring data, the deformation characteristics were found out from three aspects containing points, lines and regions, which play an important role in understanding the stable state of buildings and structures. The stability and deformation of monitoring points were analysed, and time-series data of monitoring points were denoised with wavelet analysis and Kalman filtering, and exponent function and periodic function were used to get the ideal deformation trend model of monitoring points. Through calculating the monitoring data obtained, analyzing the deformation trend, and cognizing the deformation regularity, it can better service mine safety production and decision-making.

Wet-chemical synthesis and characteristics of Au nanoshell

Gold nanoshells were prepared by an easy wet-chemical method, with Ag nanoparticles used as the templates. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) indicated that the shells were sphere in shape, the size was homogenous, being about 2. nm, and no hard ag-glomerates were observed. The plasma resonance absorption of gold was tuned from visible to near-infrared (NIR) with the increased volume of HAuCl4. The temperature grads (?T) of the gold nanoshell hydrosol under the exposure of an 808-nm optical fiber laser with different power den-sities were measured. The highest ?T was 30℃ (5 W/cm2. irradiation area was 2.cm2.. This kind of gold nanoshell hydrosol is a promising material to be used in biomedicine such as photo-thermal cancer therapy, and its special photothermal convert property will photothermally trigger drug release.

Discovery of immune related factors in Fenneropenaeus chinensis by annotation of ESTs

A total of 104.6 expressed sequence tags (ESTs) are obtained by a large scale sequencing of a cDNA library from cephalothorax of adult Fenneropenaeus chinensis . An EST analysis platform was built up based on local computers and bioinformatic techniques were used to annotate these ESTs in order to promptly find possible functional genes, especially for immune related factors. About 4. of the ESTs show similarity to the coding sequences of such factors, including lectin, serine protease, serpin, lysozyme, etc. These ESTs provide a partial profile of the immune system in F. chinensis and useful information for further study on these genes.

The moist vorticity vector (MVV), defined as (ζa×▽qv)/ρ introduced by Gao et al. is used to study a heavy rainfall event in North china. The MVV has zonal, meridional and vertical components in a three-dimensional framework. analysis of domain-mean and mass-integrated quantities shows that the variation of the vertical component of the MVV closely follows the variation of the cloud hydrometeors, with a linear correlation coefficient of 0.95, indicating that the vertical component of the MVV is strongly associated with midlatitude convection. Further analysis shows that the vertical component of the MVV reflects the interaction between the horizontal vorticity and the horizontal specific humidity gradient, which can associate dynamic and thermodynamic processes with cloud microphysical processes. Thus, this study can help to understand how the interaction between circulations and clouds aids the development of convection, and the MVV can be used to trace the development and evolution of heavy rainfall.

In this paper, the analytical representations of four wave source functions in high-frequency spectrum range are given on the basis of ocean wave theory and dimensional analysis, and the perturbation method is used to solve the governing equations of ocean wave high-frequency spectrum on the basis of the temporally stationary and locally homogeneous scale relations of microscale wave. The microscale ocean wavenumber spectrum correct to the second order has an explicit structure, its first order part represents the equilibrium between dif- ferent source functions, and its second order part represents the contribution of microscale wave propagation.

Parentage determination of an isolated Yangtze finless porpoise population Neophocaena phocaenoides asiaeorientalis in the Yangtze Tian-e-Zhou Baiji National Natural Reserve based on molecular data

Reproductive behaviors are poorly known for the Yangtze finless porpoise Neophocaena phocaenoides asiaeorientalis. In this study, the parentage of an isolated Yangtze finless porpoise population inhabiting the Yangtze Tian-e-Zhou Baiji National Natural Reserve is determined by analysis of microsatellite loci and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) control region sequences, and the porpoise's reproductive behaviors are studied. Overall 4.full parentage assignments and additional 3 single parentage assignments were determined for the population of 2. individuals. The analysis shows that their estimated reproductive cycle is shorter than that reported previously and there probably exists an overlapping between gestation and lactation period. The study also shows that the female does not show fidelity to a particular male for breeding and vice versa, the oldest males did not monopolize mating and the dominance rank could not be so strict for the porpoise society. Moreover, the porpoise's mating pattern and relatedness among candidate parents are discussed here. These results provide important information for making guidelines of management and conservation for this protected population.

The development of Web-based global 3D visual system has made progresses. However, there exist few mature and effective ways for managing, transmitting and visualizing massive spatial data. Based on the related work, the paper illustrates the ellipsoidal quadtree technique for rapid access multi-scale and multiple level geographical data, integrates the streaming with level-of-detail rendering method for transmitting the data on the network, and im-plements large-scale terrain surface simplification using M-band wavelet transforms and mul-tiresolution triangulations. We fulfil a web-based global terrain visual system using COM com-ponents on the basis of the above techniques. The system has a good prospect in the military simulation and city plans.

The onset and advance of the Asian summer monsoon

Based on the daily outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) data from National Oceanic and At- mospheric Administration (NOAA) satellites, the Cli- mate Prediction Center’s merged analysis of pre- cipitation (CMAP) data and the National Centers for Environmental Prediction/National Center for At- mospheric Research (NCEP/NCAR) reanalysis dataset, the mean intraseasonal variability of the Asian summer monsoon (ASM) is investigated by using power spectrum analysis, band-pass filter, and diagnostic analyses. The processes of the onset and advance of monsoon over the southern part of Indo- china Peninsula, the east coast of Bay of Bengal, the South china Sea and the Indian subcontinent are explored. It is found that there is an abrupt change in OLR, precipitation and zonal wind during the onset and advance of the ASM. It is also indicated that the southern part of Indochina Peninsula and the adja- cent Andaman Sea is the region where the earliest onset of the ASM occurs in the 2.d pentad of May.
