The northwest trending tectonic belt in the middle part of the Mesozoic intraplate Yanshan Orogenic Belt, northeast Hebei Province, is composed of thrusts, extensional faults, strike-slip faults and syntectonic sedimentations as well. The northeastward basement-involved major thrusting deformation occurred between 174Ma and 168MaBP and was followed by an intrusion of the granitic plutonic rocks. As a part of the post-thrusting extensional deformations a northwest extending volcano-sedimentation system of Late Jurassic and Early Cretaceous formed in the southwest side of the belt. These volcano-sedimentary sequences are divided into Tuchengzi Formation, Zhangjiakou Formation, Yixian Formation and Jiufotang Formation re- spectively. They are characterized by southeastward migration as a result of the increasing down-dip slip displacement along the major extensional fault toward the southeast of the belt. The provenance area of the Jiufotang Formation north to it experienced southwestward thrusting during and after its later sedimentation. The thrusting in this stage resulted in the formation of an asymmetric footwall syncline with vergence to SW in the Jiufotang Formation in the NE side of the basin. Finally a dextral strike-slip deformation occurred along the NW tectonic belt. The striking tectono-geomorphological features and present seismic activities along this belt indicate that it has been being active since Cenozoic era and is still in the active state at present. This northwest extending tectonic belt was following the same direction and location as the existing fault systems within the basement as revealed by former geological and geophysical studies. So it is reasonable to infer the Mesozoic deformation along this belt to be a result of reactivation of the basement structures in a favorable tectonic stress field. The reactivation of basement struc- tures might be taken as one of the mechanisms of intraplate deformation and orogeny.

Accurate crystal structure determination of complex phosphate Mg-fillowite ? Na2.a(Mn4Mg2.e)7[PO4]6 has been finished. Mg-fillowite occurs in muscovite-pegmatite in the Altay area, Xinjiang, China. It is of the trigonal lattice, with space group R-3, unit cell a=1.5143(3) nm, c=4.3191(2. nm, V=8.5736 nm3, Z = 18. The R-factor of the determination accuracy is R (I > 2. ( I )) = 0.0776. The cationic polyhedra consist of two kinds of structural units: compound col- umn and screw column. In three-dimensional space, they are linked with each other through corner sharing or edge sharing to build the entire structure. There are 45 atoms in an asymmetric unit and 72. atoms in a unit cell. In terms of types and connection manners of the coordination polyhedra, the degree of complicity is rarely seen in all mineral crystal structures. Study of such a structure is significant for the classification of phosphate and the building rule of coordination polyhedra in a complex crystal structure.

Changes of infrared absorption wave number of aromatic-ring C=C bond of vitrinite and their significance

The humilith series of lignite, longflame coal, gas coal, fat coal, coking coal, lean coal, meagre coal and anthracite are measured by FIR1600 infrared spectrophotometer. The variation curve between the infrared absorption wave number of aromaticring C--C bond of vitrinite and its reflectance values are gained, which shows the shift of infrared absorption wave number of aromaticring C--C bond of humic coals towards lower wave number with the increase of coalification. It is believed that the coal rank of humilith series can be determined and more evolutional information about coal composition and structure can be obtained by the infrared spectroscopic method.

The Jiachala Formatiom is a new lithostratigraphic unit set up in this paper. This is the first report on the Paleogene marine sequences and microfaunas in Gyangze to the southern side of the Yarlung-Zangbo suture zone. On the basis of fossil abundance, species diversity, dominant species and first and last occurrences of key species, three dinoflagellate assemblages and three polynological assemblages were recognized in the Jiachala Formatiom. They are in ascending order as follows: Apectodinium quinquelatum-Apectodinium hyperacanthum, Cannin- gia chinensis-Palaeoperidinium pyrophorum and Cymatiosphaera reticulosa-Samlandia chla- mydophora dinoflagellate assemblages, and Arliaceoipollenites baculatus-Anacolosidites sub- trudens, Aglaoreidia cyclops-Pinuspollenites microinsigis, and Elaeangnacites asper-Ilexpol- lenites iliacus polynological Assemblages. According to the assemblages, the age of the Jiachala Formation is referred to Paleocene-early Eocene. The preliminary study on the Jiachala Forma- tion shows that this group of Paleogene deposits accumulated in an underfilled peripheral fore- land basin which was in response to the load of the crust thickening resulted from the Asia-India collision. The stratigraphic evidences provided by the evolution of foreland basin indicate that the India-Asia initional collision should occure near the Cretaceous/Paleogene boundary. The de- velopment and evolution of the southern Tibet foreland basin was under the control of the stress field from the subduct-collision between India and Asia and the structure pattern of the basement. The withering of Tethys Sea might occur after early Eocene in the Gyangze basin and should be after Priabonian of late Eocene in southern Tibet.

Various dust patterns are observed in an rf discharge dusty plasma system. According to the dust growth process from small to large in size, the formation of different dust patterns can be divided into two stages: the small-particle stage (or dust cloud stage), and the large-particle stage (or dust crystal stage). The evolution relations between different dust patterns with gas pressure changing are investigated. Dust voids, dust acoustic waves and strong turbulence modes are presented at the small-particle stage. The self-organized dust lattices and dust clusters are investigated at the large-particle stage. The static structure of a dust lattice is characterized by means of the pair correlation function. Dust clusters formed by particles with different numbers and the regular evolution of the clusters with gas pressure are also investigated. The packing sequences of dust clusters are verified through two-dimensional confined molecular dynamics simulations.

After mass extinctions, most areas became “ecologically barren areas” lacking or even without ecosystem over an extensive region. Studying the pioneer organisms and the reconstruction process of a new ecosystem in the “ecologically barren area” is very important for revealing the evo- lution after bio-mass extinctions. In the Dushan region, Guizhou Province, China, the trace fossils appeared and flourished evidently earlier than body fossils after Frasnian-Famennian (F-F) mass extinction. The pioneer organisms and pathfinders in the “ecologically barren areas” are the trace-makers that are deposit-feeders with relatively simple structure and conformation on or near the deposit surface. The trace-makers have undergone an evolutionary process that their trace structures changed from simple to complex, and their living and moving areas and spaces enlarged from linear to planar and then to three-dimension spaces. Those characters show that the ability of the trace-makers to deposits and their efficiency of looking for food have been enhanced gradually and that those trace-makers constructed gradually a base for the new ecosystem. This process is similar to that of the trace fossils near the Precambrian-Cambrian boundary. In the Dushan area, only the recovery intervals have been identified for the Famennian body fossils, with no eminent radiation interval recognizable due to the Devonian-Carboniferous (C-D) mass ex- tinction. However, both the recovery and radiation intervals may be clearly recognized in the Famen- nian trace fossils based on their conformation and diversity. The evolution and diversification of the trace fossils in the “ecologically barren area” is considered to have played a role of necessary foun- dation for the recovery of body fossils in the ecological chain. With the gradual disappearance of the unfavourable environment factors resulting in the F-F mass extinction, a new ecosystem was reconstructed in the “ecologically barren area” through a three-

Density functional method is applied for strongly correlated systems. Based on the assumption that the systems are composed of electrons in singly-occupied orbitals and those in doubly-occupied orbitals, a set of self-consistent equations are obtained by standard variation procedure. The equations consist of two parts. One part is to solve the wave functions of the electrons in singly-occupied orbitals and the other is to solve the wave functions of the electrons in doubly-occupied orbitals. The physical meanings of the terms appearing in the equations are discussed.

Restoration of eroded stratal thickness in key periods of tectonic change in a multi-stage superimposed Tarim Basin in China

With an area of 56×104km2. the Tarim Basin is the largest inland basin in China and is also generally acknowledged as one of the most important areas for potential oil and gas exploration. On the basis of data from 2. regional seismic profiles and 40 drilling wells, 15 important first-order and second-order regional unconformities were *** all the main unconformities are superimposed unconfomities. Since the Cambrian, 5 key periods of tectonic change have occurred during the evolution of the Tarim Basin. The total eroded stratal thickness of the above-mentioned unconformities was calculated by using the method of virtual extrapolation of seismic reflection. The results indicate that the total eroded stratal thickness of different periods is quite different in different locations of the basin. Taking the Upper-Middle Ordovician as an example, its thickness restoration of eroded strata was calculated into individual stages i.e. its thickness restoration of eroded strata was calculated to different tectonic periods. Otherwise, as for the specific period of tectonic change, the underlying strata were, respectively eroded and thus the thickness restoration of eroded strata was calculated into individual intervals. Taking the Early Hercynian period as an example, the eroded stratal thickness was calculated into individual intervals to calculate the ratio of intervals of various ages occupying the total eroded thickness. The results show that for the same stratum, its degree of erosion is quite different in different periods and at different locations, due to the varying influence of tectonic movement. The unconformities of some key periods of tectonic change have different controls on the degree of erosion and the eroded range of the individual period of the underlying strata which are the typical characteristics of multi-stage superimposition of unconformities in the Tarim Basin.

An edge Lyman-alpha-based beam emission spectroscopy(LyBES)diagnostic,using a heating NBI(neutral beam injection)system,is currently under development on the HL-2. *** 2.-channel edge LyBES,which is intended to measure the density fluctuation in plasma edge(from R=1960 mm to R=2.2. mm)with an improved spatial resolution of 3.3 mm,is a complement to the existing conventional beam emission spectroscopy(BES)*** this article,we introduce the progress of LyBES diagnostic,including the collection optics,the monochromator,and the detector *** reflectance of the collection mirrors is measured to be~82.at 12. nm,and the aberration geometrical radius of the collection optics is tested to be~150μm in the aimed *** linear dispersion of the LyBES monochromator is designed to be~0.09 nm mm^(-1).The bandwidth of the detector system with the 5×10^(7)V A^(-1)preamplifier gain is measured to be~2.0 kHz,and the peak-to-peak noise of the detector system is tested to be~16 *** finalized design,components development and testing of the LyBES diagnostic have been completed at present,and an overall performance of the LyBES diagnostic is to be confirmed in the next HL-2. campaign.
