Fluids and noble gases of mantle-derived materials are imp.r.ant tracers forthe mantle information. Compositions of primary fluids and noble gases in mantle-derived mineralsfrom the Yishu area, Shandong province, china, were tested by the methods of heat-bursting andheat-melting respectively. The fluids are mainly composed of CO_2, CO and H_2, which account forabout 90% of the total, and are similar to the mantle-derived rocks from other areas of easternchina; ratios of ~3He/~4He in almost all samples range from 0.82 ra to 2.74 ra, whereas^(40)Ar/^(36)Ar from 299.5 to 758.8. Both ranges are much lower than those of the typical oceanmantle-derived samples (such as MOrB) and primarily reflect the influences of the atmosphericcomponents and the radiogenic isotopes. ratios of C/~3He range from 27.6 x 10~9 to 1050 x 10~9,N_2/Ar from 927 to 56612, and N_2/~3He from 2.5 x 10~9 to 27 x 10~9, similar to those in westernUnited States and New Zealand which belong to the tectonic plate collision regions. The ratios fallin the intersect of mantle-crust-atmosphere in the comprehensive tracer-charts, reflecting theinfluences of the atmosphere and the crusts with organic components. Our results suggest that thecomposition of the primary fluids and the isotopic ratios of the noble gases may either reflect theevolution process of mantle-derived rocks connected with the rise and eruption of magma, or theinfluence of the ancient subduction-plate on the continental mantle of this region.

Although the caustic sulfur components in LpG have been removed, the process converted the result of copp.r.strip corrosion test from passing into failing sometimes still happens when the LpGs are stored in tanks for several days in some refineries. By analyzing the sulfur species in LpGs that passed and failed in copp.r.strip corrosion test with GC-FpD and GC-MS, It was found that hydrogen sulfide and methanethiol were the main corrosive components. The p.r.ial conversion of dimethyl disulfide is the source of hydrogen sulfide and methanethiol in LpG.

The evap.r.tion residue cross sections of synthesizing sup.r.eavy nuclei Z=119, 120 are calculated by different sets of master equations with different dynamical variables. Two methods basically predicted similar results that the Ca induced hot fusion can 48 produce element 119 easier than produce 120, and the evap.r.tion residue cross sections for 119 are detectable by current advanced techniques, while the evap.r.tion residue cross sections are below 0.1 pb for producing element 120.

Impact of land-use change on hydrological processes in the Maying river basin, china

Since the 1960s, dramatic changes have taken place in land-use patterns characterized by the p.r.istent expansion of cultivated land and a continuous decrease in natural woodland and grassland in the arid inland river basins of china. It is very imp.r.ant to assess the effects of such land-use changes on the hydrological processes so vital for water resource management and sustainable development on the catchment scale. The Maying river catchment, a typical arid inland watershed located in the middle of the Hexi Corridor in northwest china, was the site chosen to investigate the hydrological responses to land-use changes. The annual runoff, base flow, maximum peak flow, and typical seasonal runoff in both spring and autumn flood p.r.ods were selected as the variables in the hydrological processes. Statistical-trend analysis and curvilinear regression were utilized to detect the trends in hydrological variables while eliminating the climatic influence. The relationship between cultivated land-use and hydrological variables was analyzed based on four p.r.ods of land-use variation data collected since 1965. A runoff model was established composed of two factors, i.e., cultivated land use and precipitation. The impact of land use changes, especially in the large ar- eas of upstream woodland and grassland turned into cultivated lands since 1967, has resulted in a mean annual runoff decrease of 28.12%, a base flow decline of 35.32%, a drop in the maximum peak discharge of 35.77%, and mean discharge decreases in spring and autumn of 36.05% and 24.87% respectively, of which the contribution of cultivated land expansion to the influence of annual runoff amounts to 77%-80%, with the contribution to the influence of spring discharge being 73%-81%, and that to the influence of base flow reaching 62%-65%. Thus, a rational regulation policy of land use patterns is vitally imp.r.ant to the sustainable use of water resources and the prop.r.development of the entire catchment.

The heat flow in crust and the thermal stress generated by the flow play a very imp.r.ant role in earthquake occurrence. Different crustal structure has different effect on heat distribution and associated thermal stress. In all of typical seismogenic crustal structure models, including the bulge of Moho surface, the deep-large fault in the mid-lower crust, low-velocity and high-conductive layer in the middle crust, and the typical crustal structure in mid-upp.r.crust, the thermal stress produced by deep heat disturbance may move up to the mid-upp.r.crest. This leads to upp.r.brittle p.r. of crust break and hence, strong earthquakes. This result is constructive in enhancing our understanding of the role of deep fieat flow in curst in development of earthquake and its generation, as well as the generation mechanism of the shallow flowing fluid.

Friction-reducing and antiwear behavior of metal halide-stabilized linear phosphazene derivatives as lubricants for a steel-on-steel contact

A series of novel metal halide-stabilized linear phosphazene derivatives were synthesized. The friction-reducing and antiwear abilities of the resulting products as the lubricants for a steel-on-steel contact were comp.r.tively investigated on an Optimol SrV oscillating friction and wear tester. The morphology of the worn steel surface was observed on a scanning electron microscope, while the chemical states of some typical elements on the worn steel surface were examined by means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. It was found that both the side branch structures and central metals influenced the friction-reducing and antiwear behaviors of the synthetic derivatives as the lubricants, which was related to the different adsorption activities of the organic compounds composed of different organic ingredients and metallic ions on a nascent metal surface. All the synthetic lubricants except for the iron (III) derivative showed increased antiwear abilities with increasing metallic ionic radius. A protective layer originated from the tribochemical reaction together with the adsorbed boundary lubricating layer containing organic fluorine compounds, nitrogen oxide, and Fe 3 (pO 4 ) 2 plays an imp.r.ant role in improving the friction and wear behavior of the steel-on-steel system.

Lakes in arid zone are sensitive to climatic changes. The lacustrine sediment sequence in Sogo Nur has well and truly recorded climatic events such as the Sui-Tang Dynasty Warm p.r.od, the Song-Liao Dynasty Cold p.r.od, the Medieval Warm p.r.od, the Little Ice Age and the 20th Century Warm p.r.od. Commonly, the climate in warm p.r.ods was relatively humid,accordingly the lake area extended and water level rose, and vice versa. Ap.r. from climatic change, human activity is also an imp.r.ant factor of influencing lake vicissitude, and they played the dominant role alternatively during different p.r.ods; the factor of climatic change predominated in historical p.r.od, while since the beginning of the 20th century the utilization of water resources by human has became decisive.

Effects of sunspot cycle length and CO_2 on air temp.r.ture along Qinghai-Xizang railway and air temp.r.ture's trend prediction

There are well coherences between annual averaged air temp.r.tures at every meteorological station along the Qinghai-Xizang railway, and its 10-year moving average correlation coefficient is 0.92. Thus, the regional averaged annual mean temp.r.ture series along the Qinghai-Xizang railway (Trw) from 1935 to 2000 are constructed. The investigation is suggested that: Trw had significant responses to the 5-year lagged sunspot cycle length (SCL) and 15-year lagged concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2), and the correlation coefficients between them are -0.76 (SCL) and 0.88 (CO2), respectively. The future SCL is predicted by the model of average generated function constructed with its main cycles of 76a, 93a, 108a, 205a and 275a. The result shows that the SCL would be becoming longer in the first half of the 21st century, and then it could be becoming shorter in the second half of the 21st century. Based on the natural change of SCL and the effect of double CO2 concentration, Trw in the 21st century is forecasted. It could warm up about 0.50℃ in the first half of the 21st century comp.r.d with the last decade of last century. The mean maximum air temp.r.ture could be likely about 0.20℃ in July and from 0.40℃ to 1.10℃ in January. The annual air temp.r.ture difference would likely reduce 0.3-1.00℃. The probability of above predictions ranges from 0.64 to 0.73.
