Aim:To express and purify lipoprotein-associated phospholipase A2（Lp-PLA2）,and to establish a screening model for Lp-PLA2inhibitors using the expressed Lp-PLA2,Methods:We cloned the full-length cDNA of Lp-PLA2 from differentiatedTHP-I cells,and subcloned the cDNA into the baculovirus transfer *** addition,we introduced an N-terminal Kozak sequence for high-level translation initiation and a C-terminal sequence of 6 histidine residues forpurification,The fusion enzyme was expressed in Sf9 insect cells and purified byNi2+affinity *** Lp-PLA2activity was measured us-ing[3.]PAF as a substrate,and we examined the enzyme activity of recombinantLp-PLA2pretreated with the known Lp-PLA2inhibitor ***:Wesuccessfully cloned the full-length Lp-PLA2gene from differentiated THP-1 *** fusion enzyme was expressed in Sf9 insect cells at a high level and purifiedefficiently through a 2-step *** recombinant Lp-PLA2activity wasmeasured using[3.]PAF as a substrate,and proved to be enzymatically ***-PLA2inhibitor SB43.495 produced a good inhibition curve for inhibition ofrecombinant Lp-PLA2with an IC50of 57±1μmol/***:We expressed andpurified Lp-PLA2at a high level in insect cell-baculovirus expression *** ratio was much greater than that obtained from human plasma and we estab-lished a screening model for Lp-PLA2inhibitors using the expressed Lp-PLA2.

We examine various direct and indirect constraints on the lepton-specific two-Higgs doublet model and discuss its phenomenology at colliders in the allowed parameter *** constraints we consider come from the precision electroweak data,the direct search for Higgs boson,the muon anomalous magnetic moment,as well as some theoretical consistency *** find that in the allowed parameter space the CP-odd Higgs boson A is rather light (m A 3. GeV with 95% possibility),which is composed dominantly by the leptonic Higgs and decays dominantly into τ + τ;while the SM-like Higgs boson h (responsible largely for electroweak symmetry breaking) decays dominantly in the mode h → AA → 4τ with a large decay width,which will make the Higgs discovery more difficult at the ***,this scenario predicts rare Z decays Z → AAA and Z →τ + τA with their branching ratios ranging from 10-8 to 10-and 10-5 to 10-4 respectively,which may be accessible at the GigaZ option of the ILC.

Ce Anomalies of the Yangtze Region,South china,through the Ordovician and Silurian Transition

Systematic Ce anomalies for whole-rock have been obtained from the shale-dominated, continuous, and pelagic sedimentary sequences spanning the Ordovician/Silurian （O/S） boundary at the Tieshui （铁水） of Xiushan （秀山）, Chongqing （重庆）, South china. Ce anomalies across the O/S boundary are recognized in three intervals, Wufeng （五峰）, Guanyinqiao （观音桥） and Longmaxi （龙马溪）. The calculated Ce/Ce＊ values of Wufeng Formation range from 0.84 to 0.96 （avg. 0.90）. In the Guanyinqiao Formation, the values of calculated Ce/Ce＊ range from 0.73.to 0.85 （avg. 0.79）. The Ce/Ce＊ values of uppermost Longmaxi Formation range from 0.87 to 0.96 （avg. 0.91）. All along the section, the magnitude of the Ce anomaly is always negative, but is more significant in the Guanyinqiao Formation. The relatively higher Ce/Ce＊ values in the Wufeng and Longmaxi shales are likely to be due to the sediments deposited under rather reducing conditions. The Ce anomaly apparently does play some regular roles in the anoxic events that accompany prominent mass extinctions, and this work provides new data of critical importance for constraining models on the end-Ordovician anoxic events and mass extinctions.

Ethylene plays important roles in plant growth, development, and stress responses, and ethylene receptors have been identified and studied extensively in various plant species. Here we report the cloning of four ethylene receptor genes from soybean, i.e. GmETR1, GmERS1, GmETR2 and GmEIN4. Construction of the phylogenic tree showed that GmETR1 and GmERS1 belong to subfamily I whereas GmETR2 and GmEIN4 belong to subfamily II. The four ethylene receptor genes showed different tissue-specific expression patterns in roots, stems, leaves, cotyledons, flowers, pods and seeds of soybean. These genes were differentially regulated by various abiotic stresses and plant hormones. The possible roles of the four genes in soybean plant were also discussed.

Role of plasminogen activators and inhibitors in reproduction

The recent progress in the studies on the role of local and directed fibrinolysis controlled by plasminogen activators (PAs) and regulated by their inhibitors (PAIs) in reproduction is summarized. Hormone-induced coordinated expression of tissue type PA (tPA) and PAI type-1 (PAI-1) in the ovary is involved in the processes of ovulation and luteal regression; increases in urokinase type PA (uPA) and PAI-1 activity in the early stage of luteinized follicles may be responsible for ovarian tissue remodeling and angiogenesis; the PA system has been found to play an important role in spermatogenesis in testis and modulation of sperm maturation in epididymis. PA and matrix matalloproteanase (MMP) and their respective inhibitors have also been identified in trophoblast and uterus. The targeted proteolytic activity generated by the two systems may play an essential role in the processes of the cyclic uterine angiogenesis, implantation and pla-centation as well as parturition.

Systematic distortion in cosmic microwave background maps

To minimize instrumentally the induced systematic errors,cosmic microwave background(CMB)anisotropy experiments measure temperature differences across the sky using pairs of horn antennas, temperature map is recovered from temperature difference obtained in sky survey through a map-making *** inspect and calibrate residual systematic errors in the recovered temperature maps is important as most previous studies of cosmology are based on these *** analyzing pixel-ring coupling and latitude dependence of CMB temperatures,we find notable systematic devia- tion from CMB Gaussianity in released Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe(WMAP)*** detected deviation cannot be explained by the best-fit LCDM cosmological model at a confidence level above 99%and cannot be ignored for a precision cosmology study.

Phylogeny of fireflies (Coleoptera: Lampyridae) inferred from mitochondrial 16S ribosomal DNA, with references to morphological and ethological traits

We sequenced partial mitochondrial 16S ribosomal DNA (16S rDNA) of 18 firefly species from Southwest of china. Combined with homologous sequences previously reported, phylogenetic trees including Japanese, Korean and chinese species were reconstructed by neighbor-joining, maximum parsimony and Bayesian methods. All reconstructions agree on most nodes of the trees. Monophyly of Lampyridae is not supported because Rhagophthalmus ohbai in Rhagophthalmidae is included within it. Lamprigera, a genus placed unreliably in Lampyrinae, shows a close relationship to Amydetinae. Monophyly of Luciolinae is not supported because Pristolycus sagulatus (Lampyrinae) is included within it. In the Luciolinae, monophyly of Curtos and Hotaria is well established, respectively, but both morphological and molecular data continue to indicate that Luciola is not monophyletic and its subdivision is indeed necessary. Within the Lampyrinae, both Pyrocoelia and Diaphanes are not monophyletic, but monophyly of Pyrocoelia + Diaphanes is well supported. Phylogeny of Diaphanes is discussed for the first time. Generic placement of a newly discovered species (Diaphanes pectinealis Li et Liang) sharing some characters of Pyrocoelia and Diaphanes challenges the delimitation of these two similar genera. With references to the firefly mating systems, we suggest that more emphases should be placed on those sexually selected characters such as antennal structure in taxonomy of Lampyridae.

Features and distribution patterns of chinese endemic seed plant species

We compiled and identified a list of chinese endemic seed plant species based on a large number of published references and expert reviews. The characters of these seed plant species and their distribution patterns were described at length. china is rich in endemic seed plants, with a total of 14 93. species (accounting for 52.1% of its total seed plant species) belonging to 1584 genera and 191 families. Temperate families and genera have a significantly higher proportion of endemism than cosmopolitan and tropical ones. The most primitive and derived groups have significantly higher endemism than the other groups. The endemism of tree, shrub, and liana or vine is higher than that of total species; in contrast, the endemism of herb is lower than that of total species. Geographically, these chinese endemic plants are mainly distributed in Yunnan and Sichuan provinces, southwest china. Species richness and proportion of these endemic plants decrease with increased latitude and have a unimodal response to altitude. The peak value of proportion of endemism is at higher altitudes than that of total species and endemic species richness. The proportions of endemic shrub, liana or vine, and herb increase with altitude and have a clear unimodal curve. In contrast, the proportion of tree increases with altitude, with a sudden increase at ～4000 m and has a completely different model. To date, our study provides the most comprehensive list of chinese endemic seed plant species and their basic composition and distribution features.

Confirmation of a natural hybrid species in Petrocosmea(Gesneriaceae) based on molecular and morphological evidence

A natural hybrid species in Petrocosmea named Longianthera in Yanshan County,Yunnan Province is confirmed for the first time based on molecular and morphological *** character count procedure of the variable characters show that Longianthera populations are characteristic of the intermediate morphological traits between its putative parents Yanshan and Petrocosmea *** nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer region and three chloroplast regions of matK,trnL-F,and trnT-L are sequenced in the putative hybrid and the related *** alignment of DNA sequences and the phylogenetic trees could exclude all the other species in Petrocosmea as the parental species except for Yanshan and *** haplotypes in the 3. internal transcribed spacer sequences and six haplotypes in 42 cpDNA sequences were found from 14 individuals of Longianthera *** analyses of DNA sequences,haplotypes,and phylogenetic trees indicate that Longianthera is likely a hybrid species between its putative parents Yanshan and ***,in which Yanshan might be the most possible maternal *** factors may contribute to the natural hybridization between these two parental species in Petrocosmea,such as the overlapped geographic distribution,habitats,flowering periods,and shared ***,the new species of Yanshan and the natural hybrid species of Longianthera are described.
