Evolution of chlorite composition in the Paleogene prototype basin of Jiyang Depression, Shandong, china, and its implication for paleogeothermal gradient

The Dongying Basin, Huimin Basin, and Zhanhua Basin constitute the Jiyang Depression in Shandong Province. They are major oil and gas exploring districts within the depression. Through reconstructions of the paleotemperature of the three basins facilitated with the chlorite geothermometry, the thermal history of the Paleogene prototype basin in Jiyang Depression and its geologic significance were explored. This study reveals that the Si^(4+) component in chlorites reduces gradually as its buried depth increases, while the AI~Ⅳ component increases accordingly. The chlorite type changes from silicon-rich diabantite to silicon-poor ferroamesite and prochlorite. The prochlorite in this district only appears in the deep buried depth, high temperature, and relatively old stratigraphies; while the diabantite appears in the shallower buried, low temperature, and newly formed strata; the ferroamesite exists in the conditions between prochlorite and diabantite formation. The diagenetic temperatures of the chlorites in these Paleogene basins are 171 — 238℃ for the Dongying Basin, 160—202℃ for the Huimin Basin, and 135—180℃ for the Zhanhua Basin. The differences of the chlorite diagenetic temperatures in the three basins were controlled by the duration time of the structural depressing processes. Higher temperature indicates longer depression time. The relationship between the chlorite diagenetic temperature and its buried depth indicates that the average paleogeothermal gradient is about 38.3℃ /km in the Paleogene prototype basin of Jiyang Depression. It was higher than the present geothermal gradient (29—30℃/km). This phenomenon was attributed to the evolution of the structural dynamics in the depression basin.

The symmetry-adapted perturbation theory (SAPT) that has the ability in decompo- sition of the total interaction energy into physically meaningful components is used to provide a more fundamental understanding of intermolecular forces. This work was motivated by the diffi- culty of standard SAPT in computing the intermolecular interactions for large energetic dimer systems. SAPT based on Kohn-Sham orbitals (SAPT(DFT)) proves computationally efficient for these large systems, but has been shown to perform poorly for interaction energy components. The deficiencies of SAPT(DFT) result from wrong asymptotical behaviors of commonly used exchange-correlation potentials. To remove the deficiencies, two asymptotic corrections by means of van Leeuwen and Baerends (LB) model potential and Fermi-Amaldi (FA) type potential were applied into three small test systems comprising He2, HF2 and (N2)2 and a set of larger ni- tramide dimers at several separations. The results showed that when utilizing newly developed frequency-dependent density susceptibilities (FDDS) technique for computing dispersion energy, the FA asymptotic correction is very effective to circumvent these deficiencies in SAPT(DFT) and yields a good accuracy over the LB correction. The FA corrected SAPT(DFT) approach is capa- ble of correctly predicting all the quantitative trends in binding energies for all test cases and substantially reduces computational cost as compared with the standard SAPT calculations. The successful application of the approach to nitramide dimer demonstrates that it potentially pro- vides a good means to calculate accurately intermolecular forces in larger system such as en- ergetic systems.

Stability of a linear oscillator with damping force of the fractional-order derivative

It begins with the study of damping representation of a linear vibration system of single degree of freedom (SDOF),from the view point of fractional calculus. By using the idea of stability switch,it shows that the linear term involving the fractional-order derivative of an order between 0 and 2 always acts as a damping force,so that the unique equilibrium is asymp-totically stable. Further,based on the idea of stability switch again,the paper proposes a scheme for determining the stable gain region of a linear vibration system under a fractional-order control. It shows that unlike the classical velocity feedback which can adjust the damping force only,a fractional-order feedback can adjust not only the damping force,but also the elastic re-storing force,and in addition,a fractional-order PDα control can either enlarge the stable gain region or narrow the stable gain region. For the dynamic systems described by integer-order derivatives,the asymptotical stability of an equilibrium is guaranteed if all characteristic roots stay in the open left half-plane,while for the systems with fractional-order derivatives,the asymptotical stability of an equilibrium is guaranteed if all characteristic roots stay within a sector in the complex plane. Analysis shows that the proposed method,based on the idea of stability switch,works effectively in the stability analysis of dynamical systems with fractional-order derivatives.

Studies on three Lower Triassic sections located on the shallow water platform, the deep water slope and in the deep water basin in the Lower Yangtze Region, South china, show the similar trend of carbon isotope evolution. Biostratigraphic correlations among the Lower Triassic sections on the basis of standard conodont zones indicate that three negative shifts occurred in the Griesbachian, the Smithian and the late Spathian stages respectively, and one distinctly positive shift occurred in the early Spathian stage. Trend of carbon isotope evolution of the Lower Triassic reflects some significant changes in the global carbon cycle. Moreover, δ 13C background values are intensively controlled by palaeogeographic environment. In general, δ 13C values from deep-water slope carbonates are lighter than those from carbonate platform and heavier than those from deep-water basin carbonates. The positive carbon isotope excursion may be induced by a significant amount of organic carbon burial in marine sediments and increase in primary productivity. The large negative carbon isotope excursions during the Early Triassic in Lower Yangtze Region are interpreted to relate to volcano eruptions based on tuffaceous claystone interlayers observed near the Permian-Triassic boundary, the Induan- Olenekian boundary and the Lower Triassic-Middle Triassic boundary.

Transient Behavior of Negative Hydrogen Ion Extraction from Plasma

For plasma source, the extraction of negative ions is quite different from that of positive ions. To understand the effect of extraction field on plasma, the time-dependent behavior of negative hydrogen ion extraction from a negative ion source has been studied by particle-in-cell simulation in the collisionless limit. The simulations have shown that, due to the difference in dynamics between electrons and ions, the imbalance of the numbers of charged particles occurs in the source, results in the broadening of plasma sheath and the great increase of plasma potential. The resultant high sheath field and the ambipolar electric field in plasma make the negatively charged particles congregate inside the sheath and move toward the extraction outlet. The emission area of negative ions is much smaller than that of the extraction aperture, which is in sharp contrast to the case of positive ion extraction.

In recent years, the performance of organic thinfilm solar cells has gained rapid progress, of which the power conversion efficiencies （r/p） of 3%-5% are commonly achieved, which were difficult to obtain years ago and are improving steadily now. The r/p of 7.4% was achieved in the year 2010, and r/p of 9.2% was disclosed and confirmed at website of Mitsubishi Chemical in April, 2011. The promising future is that the r/p of 10% is achievable according to simulation results. Apparently, these are attributed to material innovations, new device structures, and also the better understanding of device physics. This article summarizes recent progress in organic thinfilm solar cells related to materials, device structures and working principles. In the device functioning part, after each brief summary of the working principle, the methods for improvements, such as absorption increment, organic/electrode interface engineering, morphological issues, are addressed and summarized accordingly. In addition, for the purpose of increasing exciton diffusion efficiency, the benefit from triplet exciton, which has been proposed in recent years, is highlighted. In the active material parts, the chemical nature of materials and its impact on device performance are discussed. Particularly, emphasis is given toward the insight for better understanding device physics as well as improvements in device performance either by development of new materials or by new device architecture.

Ab initio Calculation of Intermolecular Dispersion Energy and Induction Energy of Nitramide Dimer

The dispersion energies, induction energies and their exchange counterparts (exchange-dispersion and ex-change-induction energies) between two interacting nitramide molecules at several separations are derived based upon symmetry-adapted perturbation theory (SAPT). The results show that (1) the effect of intramonomer electron correlation on dispersion energies and induction energies for nitramide dimer system is remarkable especially in the region near the van der Waals minimum distance (0.42 nm). (2) At smaller separations the dispersion energies and the induction energies are largely quenched by their exchange counterparts, and this case in induction interaction is much more remarkable than in dispersion interaction. (3) Since at shorter distances there exists the strong short-range interaction due to electron transfer which quickly decays and even disappears at larger separations, the two different R-dependency formulae of induction energies were found: one is ca. R-12.7 at short distances, and the other ca. R-7.0 at large separations. The latter R-dependency is similar to that (ca. R-7.2) of dispersion. (4) In the case of strong polar interaction existing in nitramide dimer, the true induction correlation terms of higher order than t(22)indE may be important.

Trace tritium recovery from the residue of liquid Li_(17)Pb_(83) alloy

The liquid Li17Pb83 alloy is a prominent breeder material for use in a fusion *** the design of an effective tritium extraction system for the liquid lithium lead bubbler of the test blanket module of such a reactor,finding ways to strictly limit the losses of tritium and to minimize radioactive risks is very *** this purpose,the isotope exchange process has been investigated as a means of trace tritium recovery from a model of the residue from Li17Pb83 *** results indicate that the isotope exchange process is an effective means of tritium recovery from the residue of Li17Pb83 alloy,and the optimum composition of the exchange carrier gas is He + 0.1% *** exchange temperature and number of exchange steps are the main factors influencing the efficiency of tritium recovery from the *** tritium recovery efficiency increases with increasing exchange temperature and number of times of *** recovery efficiency can approach 80% when the residue is treated six times at 823 K.A gas-liquid two-phase contact model to describe the proceeding of tritium release from the liquid Li17Pb83 alloy has been derived on the basis of this experiment.

We examine various direct and indirect constraints on the lepton-specific two-Higgs doublet model and discuss its phenomenology at colliders in the allowed parameter *** constraints we consider come from the precision electroweak data,the direct search for Higgs boson,the muon anomalous magnetic moment,as well as some theoretical consistency *** find that in the allowed parameter space the CP-odd Higgs boson A is rather light (m A < 30 GeV with 95% possibility),which is composed dominantly by the leptonic Higgs and decays dominantly into τ + τ;while the SM-like Higgs boson h (responsible largely for electroweak symmetry breaking) decays dominantly in the mode h → AA → 4τ with a large decay width,which will make the Higgs discovery more difficult at the ***,this scenario predicts rare Z decays Z → AAA and Z →τ + τA with their branching ratios ranging from 10-8 to 10-and 10-5 to 10-4 respectively,which may be accessible at the GigaZ option of the ILC.
