A low-carbon anti-wear steel,multi-alloyed with Si-Cr-Mn-Al-Ni-Mo-（Nb,RE）,was designed for vane pumps of ships. The novel cast steel after various heat treatments was characterized by microstructure observations and mechanical properties measurement in order to achieve an optimal process correlated with good abrasive resistance for a long marine *** scanning calorimetry and hardness analyses deduced a complete austenitizing temperature of 1 000℃,based on the alloying element homogenization and defective structure elimination without grain *** optimal austempering process（austenitized at 1 000℃,quick cooled for holding at 350℃for 1.5 h and then air-cooled to room temperature） produced a uniform mixture structure of fine carbide-free aciculate bainites and few lath martensites,resulting in the tensile strength increase of 34%and impact toughness increase of 50%compared with that of the as-cast *** abrasive wheel tests show that the austempered steel has good wear resistance with a mass-loss rate of 170 mg/（km·cm2） under applied load of 70 N in acidic *** new grade steel （containing anti-corrosion elements of Cr and rare earth） can find wide application in marine engineering,with further enhanced comprehensive properties via melting process improvement.

DISTRIBUTION OF BIOAVAILABLE PHOSPHORUS BETWEEN OVERLYING WATER AND SPM UNDER ABRUPT EXPANSION CONDITION

Experiments on Phosphorus （P） fraction characteristics in sediment resuspension were performed under adequate hydrodynamic conditions. It is found that the concentration of Suspended Particulate Matter （SPM） in the eddy current region exhibits the ＂Matthew effect＂. Velocity is an impact factor of the Equilibrium Phosphate Concentration （EPC）, which is related to other hydraulic conditions. Overall bioavailable dissolved P in the SPM causes migration to overlying water and sediment, eventually being converted into a chemical speciation of P. Conditions of resuspension promote A1-P of SPM that migrated to the sediment and water. Concentrations of A1-P in SPM are reduced. P is released from SPM to water bodies, mainly through conversion into particulate P and dissolved total P. Meanwhile, exchange between SPM and sediments occur mainly through Ca-P migration. A1-P and BD-P possess similar geochemical characteristics or source. Ca-P and A1-P exhibit a negative correlation between migration and conversion.

Influence of fractality of fracture surfaces on stress and displacement fields at crack tips

In the classic theory of fracture mechanics,expressions for calculating the stresses and displacements in the vicinity of the crack tip are deduced on the basis of the assumption that a fracture surface is a smooth surface or that a crack is a smooth *** fact,the surface of a crack formed during the fracture is usually very *** the real asymptotic form of the stress and displacement fields at the crack tip is different from the classic *** the irregularity of a real fracture surface or a real crack profile,the crack is taken as a fractal one,and then the real asymptotic form at the crack tip is developed by applying Griffith's energy balance principle and fractal *** the developed asymptotic form,it is discovered that the fractality of the crack reduces the stress singularity at the crack tip.

3D mathematical model for suspended load transport by turbulent flows and its applications

This paper presents a 3D mathematical model for suspended load transport in turbulent flows. Based on Dous stochastic theory of turbulent flow, numerical schemes of Reynolds stresses for anisotropic turbulent flows were obtained. A refined wall function was employed to treat solid wall boundaries. The equations for 2D suspended load motion and sorting of bed material have been expanded into 3D cases. Numerical results are validated by the measured data of the Gezhouba Project, and proved to be in good agreement with the experimental. The present method has been employed to simulate sediment erosion and deposition in the dam area of Three Gorges Project, and for the operation of the project, siltation process and deposition pattern in the near-dam area of the reservoir, size distribution of the deposits and bed material, and flow fields and sediment concentration fields at different time and elevations are predicted. The predicted results are close to the experimental observations in physical model studies. Thus, a new method is established for 3D simulation of sediment motion in dam areas of multi-purpose water projects.

In view of some courses of the time-varying characteristics processing in the analysis of dam deformation,the paper proposes a new method to analyze the dam time-varying characteristic based on the empirical mode decomposition and phase space reconstruction *** of all,to reduce the influences on the traditional statistical model from human factors and assure the analysis accuracy,response variables of the time-varying characteristic are obtained by the way of the empirical mode decomposition;and then,a phase plane of those variables is reconstructed to investigate their processing *** methods have already been applied to an actual project and the results showed that data interpretation with the assists of empirical mode decomposition and phase space reconstruction is effective in analyzing the perturbations of response variables,explicit in reflecting the entire development process,and valid for obtaining the evolution rules of the time-varying *** methodology is a powerful technical support for people to further master the rules of dam operation.

NUMERICAL MODELING PURIFICATION PERFORMANCE OF POT TEST

A three-dimensional mathematical model was developed to simulate the pollutant removal efficiency of the soil and plants in the pot test. The advection, dispersion, diffusion, adsorption, biochemical reaction and plant uptake processes were taken into account in the model. The three-dimensional modified Richards equation was used in simulating flow field. The mass balance law was employed in deriving the equation for pollutant transport, where the diffusion and dispersion were described with the Fick-type law, the adsorption was macroscopically expressed as form isotherm, and the bio-chemical degradation process was assumed to follow the Monod kinetics. The mathematical model was descretized by the finite element numerical method. In the pot test, the hydraulic loading was assumed to have the intermittent pattern simulating the rainfall duration and the occurrence of frequency, and the concentrations of pollutants in the influent and effluent were measured. The computed overall removal rates for the CODCr and TN in four cases are in the range of 90.62% - 95.43% and 85.01% - 96.46%, respectively. The differences between the computed and tested overall removal rates for the CODCr and TN are smaller than 5%. The time-varying oscillation pattern of the concentrations of the CODCr and TN were rationally simulated, which showed that the model presented in this article could be used to assess the pollutant removal efficiency of the soil and plants in related cases.

NUMERICAL STUDY OF HYDRODYNAMICS OF MULTIPLE TANDEM JETS IN CROSS FLOW

The hydrodynamics of a single jet and four tandem jets in a cross flow are simulated by using the Computational Fluid Dynamics （CFD） software Fluent. The realizable model is used to close the Reynolds-Averaged equations. The flow characteristics of the jets, including the jet trajectory, the velocity field and the turbulent kinetic energy are obtained with various jet-to-cross flow velocity ratios in the range of 2.38-17.88. It is shown that a single jet penetrates slightly deeper than the first jet in a jet group at the same , although the difference decreases with the decrease of . It is also found that the way in which the velo-city decays along the centerline of the jet is similar for both a single jet and the first jet in a group, and the speed of the decay increases with the decrease of . The downstream jets in a group are found to behave differently due to the sheltering effect of the first jet in the group. Compared with the first jet, the downstream jets penetrate deeper into the cross flow, and the velocity decays more slowly. The circulation zone between the two upstream jets in the front is stronger than those formed between the downstream jets. The Turbulent Kinetic Energy （TKE） sees a distinct double-peak across the cross-sections close to each nozzle, with low values in the jet core and high values in the shear layers. The double-peak gradually vanishes, as the shear layers of the jet merge further away from the nozzle, where the TKE assumes peaks at the jet centerline.

We has developed a novel dynamic coherent eddy model,in which the coherent structure-Q criterion introduced by Hunt et al(1988)-is taken into account in the subgrid-scale turbulent viscosity based on the eddy viscosity *** proposed method is to combine the resolved-scale velocity-gradient tensor in the classical Smagorinsky model with Q criterion weighted.A kind of dynamic procedure which was averaged in a general process at temporal direction based on the autocorrelations of the characteristic resolved scales of turbulence was taken for the coefficient of subgrid *** model is implemented in the σ-coordinate and the filtered Navier-Stokes equations are solved by the operator splitting *** validation was explored to 2-D turbulent slot jet both in ambient environment and in regular *** prediction of the present model was compared with the experiment data,including the averaged velocity profiles,the velocity fluctuations and the Reynolds *** model performance is shown to be satisfactory.

Discrete Element Modeling of Asphalt Concrete Cracking Using a User-def ined Three-dimensional Micromechanical Approach

We established a user-defined micromechanical model using discrete element method （DEM） to investigate the cracking behavior of asphalt concrete （AC）. Using the ＂Fish＂ language provided in the particle flow code in 3-Demensions （PFC3D）, the air voids and mastics in asphalt concrete were realistically built as two distinct phases. With the irregular shape of individual aggregate particles modeled using a clump of spheres of different sizes, the three-dimensional （3D） discrete element model was able to account for aggregate gradation and fraction. Laboratory uniaxial complex modulus test and indirect tensile strength test were performed to obtain input material parameters for the numerical simulation. A set of the indirect tensile test were simulated to study the cracking behavior of AC at two levels of temperature, i e, -10 ℃ and 15 ℃. The predicted results of the numerical simulation were compared with laboratory experimental measurements. Results show that the 3D DEM model is able to predict accurately the fracture pattern of different asphalt mixtures. Based on the DEM model, the effects of air void content and aggregate volumetric fraction on the cracking behavior of asphalt concrete were evaluated.
