Effects of Citral on Aspergillus flavus Spores by Quasi-elastic Light Scattering and Multiplex Microanalysis Techniques

Citral refined from Litsea cubeba oil has been found to have a strong influence on fungi, especially Aspergillus flavus. Multiplex microanalysis and quasi-elastic light scattering techniques were applied to study the effects of citral on Aspergillus flavus spores from the levels of membrane, organelle and intracellular macromolecule. It was found that citral injured the wall and the membrane of A. flavus spore, resulting in decrease of its elasticity. After entering the cell, citral not only influenced the genetic expression of mitochondrion reduplication and its morphology, but also changed the aggregation of protein-like macromolecules. As a result, cells, organelles and macromolecules lost their normal structures and functions, eventually leading to the loss of germination ability of A. flavus spores. Since Litsea cubeba oil as food additive and antifungal agent is safe and less poisonous, it is important to elucidate the inhibitory mechanisms of Litsea cubeba oil on the germination ability of A. flavus spore.

Computational theory of cavitating flows for hydraulic turbomachinery with consideration of influence of water quality

Previously it was assumed that the pressure within the cavity or on the cavity surface remained constant and the vapor pressure of clean water at 20°C and 0 m altitude was utilized as the computational boundary for cavitating flows in hydraulic turbomachinery. Cavitation was confused with vaporization, and the effect of water quality on cavitation pressure characteristics was not taken into account. In recent years, lots of experiments of cavitation pressure characteristics of different water qualities including different sand concentrations of sand water and different altitudes of clean water have been performed by the authors, and the important influences of water quality on cavitation pressure characteristic have been validated. Thus the water quality should be involved in the cavitating flows computation. In the present paper, the effect of water quality on the cavitation pressure characteristic is analyzed and the computational method and theory of cavitating flows for hydraulic turbomachinery that considers the influence of water quality are proposed. The theory is suitable for both the potential flow method and the two-phase flow method for cavitating flows simulation. Finally, the validation results for cavitating flows in a hydraulic tur- bine indicate the significant influences of water quality on the cavitating flow performance.

Pattern phenomena in an rf discharge dusty plasma system

Various dust patterns are observed in an rf discharge dusty plasma system. According to the dust growth process from small to large in size, the formation of different dust patterns can be divided into two stages: the small-particle stage (or dust cloud stage), and the large-particle stage (or dust crystal stage). The evolution relations between different dust patterns with gas pressure changing are investigated. Dust voids, dust acoustic waves and strong turbulence modes are presented at the small-particle stage. The self-organized dust lattices and dust clusters are investigated at the large-particle stage. The static structure of a dust lattice is characterized by means of the pair correlation function. Dust clusters formed by particles with different numbers and the regular evolution of the clusters with gas pressure are also investigated. The packing sequences of dust clusters are verified through two-dimensional confined molecular dynamics simulations.

Decisive influence of the ionization strength of cosmic rays on the cavitation characteristics of pure water

The experiment result in this article shows that the initial and critical cavitation pressure of pure water are both increasing along with the increase of height above sea level,and the ionization strength of cosmic rays in the lower aerosphere is the crucial factor which influences the cavitation pressure of pure *** author concludes the relationship between the cavitaion pressure of pure water and the height above sea ***,air particles in water caused by the radiation of cosmic rays can exist in the water for a long time and will not escape.

The refined theory of deep rectangular beams for symmetrical deformation

Based on elasticity theory, various one-dimensional equations for symmetrical deformation have been deduced systematically and directly from the two-dimensional theory of deep rectangular beams by using the Papkovich-Neuber solution and the Lur'e method without ad hoc assumptions, and they construct the refined theory of beams for symmetrical deformation. It is shown that the displacements and stresses of the beam can be represented by the transverse normal strain and displacement of the mid-plane. In the case of homogeneous boundary conditions, the exact solutions for the beam are derived, and the exact equations consist of two governing differential equations: the second-order equation and the transcendental equation. In the case of non-homogeneous boundary conditions, the approximate governing differential equations and solutions for the beam under normal loadings only and shear loadings only are derived directly from the refined beam theory, respectively, and the correctness of the stress assumptions in classic extension or compression problems is revised. Meanwhile, as an example, explicit expressions of analytical solutions are obtained for beams subjected to an exponentially distributed load along the length of beams.

Construction of a genetic map and localization of QTLs for yield traits in tomato by SSR markers

Using an F2population derived from the hybrid of Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. ‘XF 98-7’× Lycopersicon pimpinellifolium LA2184, a SSR genetic linkage map of tomato is constructed. The map contains 112 markers and spans 808.4 cM with an average distance of 7.22 cM between loci. Two quantitative trait loci （QTLs） for first flower node on chromosomes 5 and 11, two QTLs for number of flowers per truss on chromosomes 2 and 5, and five QTLs for fruit weight on chromosomes 1, 2, 3, 9 and 12 are identified.

Effect of hormonal status and metabolic changes of restricted ewes during late pregnancy on their fetal growth and development

This study investigated the effects of hormonal status; metabolic changes of restricted ewes during late pregnancy on the ovine fetus growth; development. One hundred Mongolian ewes, synchronized for oestrus; mated, were divided into three groups; offered 0.175 MJME·kgw[0.75]·d[1] (Restricted Group 1, RG1), 0.33 MJME·kgw[0.75]·d[1] (Restricted Group 2, RG2); ad libitum access to feed (Control Group, CG) during their late pregnancy respectively. The results suggested that with the supply of exogenous energy decreasing during late pregnancy, maternal body weight; net body weight loss in RG2; RG1 were lower than those of CG (Ps0.01). The insulin; IGF-1 concentrations of ewes in RG2; RG1 tended to be lower than those of CG (P>0.05), but the GH concentrations in RG2; RG1 were enhanced; there was significant difference between RG1; CG on d 120 of gestation (P2; RG1 was decreased throughout the feed restriction period,; the differences were observed between RG1; CG on d 120 of gestation (P2 tended to increase, but there was no significant difference (P>0.05). However, the NEFA; FAA concentrations of ewes in RG1 were reduced from d 90 to d 120 of gestation, then enhanced from d 120 to d 140 of gestation. During the late pregnancy, with the supply of nutrition decreasing, the negatively physiological; biochemical maternal reactions to restriction became worse, which significantly reduced the average lamb birth weight; daily growth rate of fetus in RG2 (P<0.05); RG1 (P<0.01).
