Molecular hydrogen isotope analysis preformed on modern and fossil plants has made a significant impact on diverse research fields in biology and geology. Using living and fossil Metasequoia as an example, we review the technology of online GC-IRMS that made the molecular analysis of hydrogen isotope possible and discuss critical issues concerning with the studies of molecular dD and its applications. The apparent hydrogen fractionation factors between lipid molecules and source water (ewater–lipid) vary across plant taxonomy and differ among biomolecules and are affected by multiple environmental factors in which precipitation dD values exercise the first order of control. Eco-physiological factors and environmental parameters are also known to influence dD in plants. Molecular hydrogen isotope analysis of chemically stable lipid molecules, such as n-alkanes, finds a wide range of applications in detecting source sediments, reconstruction of paleoclimatic parameters, inference of air-mass trajectory, as well as in petroleum industry and environmental studies.

A novel ellipsis-ring cracking apparatus with an automatic monitoring system was used to measure the restrained shrinkage and initial cracking time of self-compacting concrete (SCC). The free shrinkage, restrained shrinkage and strength were integrated to evaluate the effect of the mineral admixtures and content of cementitious materials on shrinkage of SCC. The experimental results show that the initial cracking time of SCC incorporating fly ash was delayed, the shrinkage value and rate was reduced. The hydration achievement of silica fume increased free shrinkage and reduced initial cracking time of FA-SCC comparing to control sample, but silica fume improved the mechanical properties of FA-SCC in early age. As same strength, with the reducing the content of cementitious materials, the initial cracking time of SCC delayed and cracking sensitivity decreased markedly, especially when the content of cementitious materials achieve 450 kg/m3.

A new method is proposed in this paper for simultaneous frequency and direction estimation of coherent signals. The method is based on the rotational invariance techniques and uses an array triplet in motion to estimate the central frequencies and azimuths of coherent signals from narrowband sources. Without searching in the space of frequency-direction, the computational efficiency of the method is improved significantly. Simulation resultsin the typical examples demonstrate the performance of this new method.

We present optical spectroscopic observations of SS 433 during different precessional and orbital *** 2004,2007 and 2008 data provide us a good chance to study the variability of the Hα line at different orbital phases for nearly the same disk *** data show that the Hα of SS 433 usually had a symmetric profile between orbital phases 0.25-0.75,while an asymmetric structure with a strong red peak was observed for other orbital *** suggest that the orbital variability of Hα emission is connected with accretion flow from the donor star to the accretion *** addition,we attribute the dramatic increase of Hα emission during our 2007 observational run,which had a time scale of one day,to the emergence of strong jets.

Design and Fabrication of Antireflection Structured Surface

A symmetric two-dimensional (2D) periodic structure for antiretlection coating applications is investigated in detail. based on the effective medium theory. The surfacerellef parterns are designed and fabricated on silicon wafers, using binary, optical processing methods. The structured surfaces with symmetric patterns as single homogeneous antireflective coatings. The sisgnificant improvement of transmittance with strucrered surfaces is observed at 10.6μm long-waveicngth inrrared region.
