’Xieyou9308’ is a commercial super hybrid rice released in 1996 in *** order to clarify its genetic mechanism underlying high yield potential,a recombinant inbred line(RIL) population derived from the cross between the maintainer line ’Xieqingzao B’(XQZB) and the restorer line ’Zhonghui 9308’(ZH9308) and two backcross populations(BC) were developed for the identification of quantitative trait loci(QTLs) related to grain traits including Grain thickness(GT),100 Grain weight(GWT),Straight Length(SL),Curved Length(CL),Straight Width(SW),Curved Width(CW),Curvature(C),W/L Ratio(W/L)).A total of 23 QTLs were detected for these traits in the RIL and two BC populations,*** theses,only one QTL(qCL3) was detected repeatedly in the RIL and two BC populations,two QTLs were detected in the two BC populations or in the RIL and one BC *** QTL clusters were observed on chromosomes 3 and 7,which were ?anked by RM6283 and RM7370,RM282 and RM6283 of chromosome 3 and RM5436-RM3670 of chromosome *** additive-effect QTLs and dominant-effect QTLs play an important role in the performance of grain traits and no epistatic QTL of additive by additive effect and dominant by dominant-effect was detected for all traits in three *** data and populations developed in this study are important for further fine mapping and positional *** QTLs related to important grain trait in future.

In this study,we used 127 double haploid (DH) lines to analyze agricultural traits of *** DH lines,derived from a ZYQ8 (indica)/JX17 (japonica) cross by anther culture,contained 160 RFLP and 83 SSR *** and conditional quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping was conducted to analyze plant height (PH) and tillers per plant (TP) at five growth stages that were grown at two nitrogen *** PH and 13 TP unconditional QTL were identified in the different growth stages,including 19 QTL from high-nitrogen (HN) and 14 QTL from low-nitrogen (LN) *** conditional QTL for 14 genomic regions under LN/HN con- ditions showed that there was a significant effect on PH and TP across the different *** one conditional QTL,ph2-3,was unable to be detected in unconditional *** QTL were detected in the first four rice growth stages than in the final ***- more,a line from the DH mapping population,DH78,was identified in extreme phenotypes of PH and TP that exhibited dwarfism and less-tiller (dft) *** gene dft1 was mapped to chromosome 2 using a backcrossed population of DH78/JX17 through a map- based cloning *** location of dft1 coincided with the mapping region of the small-LOD peak,QTL ph2 and tp2,which were identified in plants grown in low-nitrogen *** backcrossing and fine-mapping successfully delimited the dft1 locus to a 91 kb region.

The dynamic equations of motion of asymmetric offshore platforms under three different environmental conditions:seismic action,wave action and their combination are established in this paper. In establishing these motion equations,three typical eccentricity types including mass eccentricity,rigidity eccentricity and their combination were considered,as are eccentricities that occur un-idirectionally and bi-directionally. The effects of the eccentricity type,the dynamic characteristics and the environmental conditions on the torsional coupling response of platforms are investigated and compared. An effort has also been made to analyze the inffluence of accidental eccentricity on asymmetric platforms with different eccentricity in two horizontally orthogonal directions. The results are given in terms of non-dimensional parameters,accounting for the uncoupled torsional to lateral frequency ratio. Numerical results reveal that the eccentricity type has a great inffluence on the torsionally coupled response under different environmental conditions. Therefore,it is necessary to consider the combination of earthquake and wave action in the seismic response analysis of some offshore platforms.

Occurrence and Population Dynamics of Chironomids in Early-Season rice Fields

The chironomid is one of the world wide distributed insects and normally occurs in a great abundance among many kinds of water bodies. Currently, our knowledge about the chironomid in rice fields is limited to the species survey, and it is considered as a group insect at the family level, termed as a kind of the neutral insects. By using the specially designed emergence traps, the species richness and the occurrence of the chironomid in rice fields were studied throughout the early season in Fuyang City, Zhejiang Province, china. There were four species, namely, Tanytarsus formosanus, Chironomus sinicus, Polypedilum nubifer and Tanypus punctipennis of chironomids collected from rice fields. All of them are widely distributed species. T. formosanus and C. sinicus were the most dominant species in rice fields. The succession of chironomids in the early season could be divided into two phases, the early and the late phases. The abundance of the chironomid was higher in the early phase than that in the late phase. It was estimated that there were around 3 million individuals of chironomids emerged from 667 m2 rice field throughout the early season. It was also found that the sex ratio of T. formosanus was female-biased during the early phase, whereas male-biased during the late phase. In contrast, the sex ratio of C. sinicus was male-biased throughout the early season.

Investigations were done on the usefulness of Envirologix CrylAb/CrylAc Plate kits for quantitative analysis of Bt toxin content in transgenic rice grains. Two transgenic rice lines: Kemingdao 1 (KMD1) and Kemingdao 2 (KMD2), transformed with a crylAb gene, and their parental variety, cv. Xiushui 11, were used as positive and negative samples. Results showed that the correlation coefficients as high as 0. 985 - 0. 998, significant at probability level of 0. 05 or 0.01, were obtained for linear regression equations by using the appended calibrators of the kits. No significant differences were detected for values of same rice sample obtained from different trials or by using different lots of the product (kit). The detectable Bt toxin content by this method could be as low as 0.5 ng/g. The Envirologix Kit could be useful for rapid quantitative detection of Bt toxin in rice grains because of its preciseness, simplicity and time saving.

The rice clustered spikelets (Cl) mutant exhib-its a phenotype that most of branch apical have 2-3 spikelets clustered together. SEM (scanning electron microscope) ob-servation suggested that the Cl gene controlled branch apical development, and influenced the terminal spikelets elonga-tion. The spikelet number was reduced in mutant, indicating that Cl may also have an effect on spikelet number. To map Cl locus, two F2 mapping populations derived from the crosses between the Cl and ZhongHua11, and Cl and ZheFu802 were constructed, respectively. The Cl locus was roughly mapped between two CAPS markers, CK0214 and SS0324. A further fine mapping analysis showed that the Cl locus was mapped between makers R0674E and Cl2560, with genetic distances of 0.2 and 2.1 cM, respectively. Then we found a PAC contig spanning Cl locus, the region was delim-ited to 196 kb. This result was useful for cloning of the Cl gene. Allelism test demonstrated that Cl was allelic to Cl2, another rice clustered spikelets mutant.

The function upgrade of computer aided design (CAD) system requested that the multiple product of B-spline functions should be represented as a linear combination of some suitable (usually higher-degree) B-splines. In this paper, we apply the theory of spline space and discrete B-splines to deduce the representation of the coefficients of all terms of the linear combination, which can be directly applied to software coding in system development.

A rhizobox experiment with two phosphorus (P) treatments, zero-P (0 mg P kg-1) and plus-P (100 mg P kg-1) as Ca(H2PO4)2·H2O, was conducted to study the chemical and biochemical properties in the rhizosphere of two rice genotypes (cv. Zhongbu 51 and Pembe) different in P uptake ability and their relationship with the depletion of soil P fractions. Plant P uptake, pH, phosphatase activity, and soil P fractions in the rhizosphere were measured. Both total dry weight and total P uptake of Pembe were significantly (P < 0.05) higher than those of Zhongbu 51 in the zero-P and plus-P treatments. Significant depletions of resin-Pi, NaHCO3-Pi, NaHCO3-Po, and NaOH-Pi, where Pi stands for inorganic P and Po for organic P, were observed in the rhizosphere of both Zhongbu 51 and Pembe under both P treatments. Pembe showed a greater ability than Zhongbu 51 in depleting resin-Pi, NaHCO3-Pi, NaHCO3-Po, NaOH-Pi, and NaOH- Po in the rhizosphere. HCl-Pi and residual-P were not depleted in the rhizosphere of both genotypes, regardless of P treatments despite significant acidification in the rhizosphere of Pembe under zero-P treatment. Higher acid phosphatase (AcPME) activity and alkaline phosphatase (AlPME) activity were observed in the rhizosphere of both Zhongbu 51 and Pembe compared to the corresponding controls without plant. AcPME activity was negatively (P < 0.01) correlated to NaHCO3-Po concentration in the rhizosphere of both Zhongbu 51 and Pembe, suggesting that AcPME was associated with the mineralization of soil organic P.
