Statistical study on the relationship between halo CME and coronal dimming

The data from SOHO/EIT and SOHO/LASCO observations are used to determine the relationship between coronal dimming and full halo CME (coronal mass ejection). The events of full halo CME examined in this study were observed by LASCO co-ronagraphs and taken from the CD AW CME catalog from 1996 to 2008. Dimming events are identified by using difference images taken by EIT at the 195 A passband. We found strong relationship between full halo CMEs and the coronal dimming events, with up to 93.3% of the front-side halo CMEs associated with the EIT 195 A dimming events. Full halo CMEs that show no clear signatures of dimming usually have lower sky plane velocities (<700 km/s) compared to the mean velocity of CMEs associated with dimming.

Identification of ten new Galactic HII regions

We discovered ten large HII regions in the Sino-German λ6 cm polarization survey of the Galactic plane. They have been identified according to their flat spectral indexes and the high ratio between the 60 μm infrared emission and the λ6 cm emission. The integrated flux densities as well as the sizes of these sources are given at 4800 MHz. Cross-identifications are made with other major radio catalogs.

Preliminary results of FeO mapping using Imaging Interferometer data from Chang'E-1

Information about the variability,and spatial distribution of iron abundance is important to understand lunar geological history and for future resource utilization. In this paper we present a preliminary model to produce an iron abundance map using images taken by an Imaging Interferometer on board the satellite Chang'E-1. Compared with the Clementine UVVIS images,the images from the Chang'E-1 satellite also allowed for the extraction of FeO abundance distributions on the Moon. However,the prelimi-nary model results suggest an underestimation of ～2 wt.% for the FeO content of the mare region and an overestimation of ～3 wt.% for the highland region.
