Synthesis process of a TiAl+TiB_2 composite from the elemental powders was studied by means of differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray ***_2 particles may form in TiAl matrix at temperature even below 700℃ owing to the exothermic reactions between Ti and Al ***_2 particles are very thermally stable,and they almost did not change in their relative amount,morphology and size after the synthesized composite was *** addition,the existence of TiB_2 particles has obvious refining effect in the as-cast microstructure of TiAl-base alloys.

A γ-TiAl base alloy with the composition of Ti-34Al-2Mn（wt--%）was prepared by consum-able electrode arc-melting *** effect of homogenization processing following arc-melt-ing on its microstructure and mechanical properties was *** emphases were placedon the microstructural evolution during solidification and homogenization,and the relationship be-tween microstructure and *** has been determined that the samples annealed at 900℃for 20 h exhibit the best ductility compared with those treated at other temperatures up to 1100℃,and they have a mixed structure of equiaxed grain of γ-TiAl single phase and some prima-ry lamellar grains which include three types of interfaces,i.e.,α2/γ,/γ/γS,γ/γT,maintainingspecific orientaion relationships between both *** ductility improvement is believed to be as-sociated with existence of suitable amount of α2-Ti3Al phase and the refinement of grains ob-tained at 900℃.

A Novel Method for Preparation of TaC Coating on C/C Composite Material

A new method for preparation of TaC coating on C/C composite material is reported. The amorphous ethylate tantalum jellied as the precursor is prepared and spread densely on the surface of the C/C composite material so as to form a multilayer film. In a graphitization furnace the multilayer film is transformed into TaC coating at various temperatures. Ethylate tantalum film is characterized by FT-IR (Fourier transform infrared) spectra, XRD (X-ray diffraction) and SEM (scanning electron microscopy) and TaC coating is characterized by XRD and SEM. At 1200℃ the coating contained TaC and Ta2O5, and at above 1400℃ only TaC is formed. The coating formed at 1600℃ is a continuous stratum structure, and that formed at 1600℃ is a porous net structure. Analysis on thermodynamics and formation mechanism of TaC indicates that, after ethylate tantalum is decomposed, Ta2O5 is first produced and then transformed into Ta2C, and newly formed Ta2C is transformed into TaC by the sufficient C at last.

The effect of BN addition on the grain size and rnechanical properties of Ti-34.1 wt-%Al alloy was investigated. It has been found that BN is an effective grain refiner for TiAl base alloys, The addition of a small arnount of BN to TiAl can change the coarse columnar grains of as-cast rnicrostructure into the fine equiaxed grains. It has been also determined that Ti-34.1 wt-%Al-1.0 wt-%BN alloy has better mechanical properties and microstructure

The growth of hydroxyapatite (HAp) crystal in the presence of hexadecylamine was investigated. Due to its high polarity and high charge density, the organic film could increase the ion supersaturation on its surface. Therefore the growth of pure HAp crystals was accelerated. Moreover, the positive headgroups of the organic film could act as recognized nucleation sites and orient the growth of HAp crystals along the direction.

Synthesis of high grade octahedron diamond through epitaxial growth

The work was based on the relationship between the crystal structure and parameters of diamonds in the synthetic process, in which Ni Mn C powder catalyst was used. At first, the diamond crystals nucleated in a cubic octahedron morphology through controlling such synthetic parameters as temperature and pressure in a parameter region where cubic octahedron ctystals can be obtained. Then the diamond nuclei grew epitaxially into crystals with a perfect octahedron morphology through increasing the synthesis temperature and decreasing the synthesis pressure in a parameter region where octahedron crystals can be obtained.
