A new species of Leptocycas (Zamiaceae) from the Upper Triassic sediments of Liaoning Province,china

A new cycad,Leptocycas yangcaogouensis ***.,was found in sediments from the Late Triassic in western Liaoning,*** pinnately compound leaves(Pseudoctenis type)are screwed in a crown on the stem *** leaflets are linear,with parallel veins and decurrent bases on the *** leaf bases are *** cataphylls intermix with the *** female cone is ovoid in *** characteristics of the new plant are more similar to those of Leptocycas gracilis,a Triassic cycad from North America,but the new species differs from *** in the size of its stem(7–8 vs.3–5 cm in diameter,respectively),leaves(length×width 100×16 vs.30×7 cm,respectively)and leaf density along the stem(4–6 vs.1–2 bases/1 cm length,respectively).Both *** and ***,having leaves of the Pseudoctenis type,show a closer relationship to the extant Dioon of *** present study provides evidence for the origin of the genus Dioon,which may have come from Leptocycas plants of the *** would be assumed that the extent cycads in Zamiaceae originate from the pteridosperms in the Late Paleozoic and have evolved through the stage of *** and *** in Late Triassic,and reaching the extant Dioon.

Direct numerical simulation of shock/turbulent boundary layer interaction in a supersonic compression ramp

A direct numerical simulation of the shock/turbulent boundary layer interaction flow in a supersonic 24-degree compression ramp is conducted with the free stream Mach number *** blow-and-suction disturbance in the upstream wall boundary is used to trigger the *** the mean wall pressure and the velocity profiles agree with those of the experimental data,which validates the *** turbulent kinetic energy budget in the separation region is *** show that the turbulent production term increases fast in the separation region,while the turbulent dissipation term reaches its peak in the near-wall *** turbulent transport term contributes to the balance of the turbulent conduction and turbulent *** on the analysis of instantaneous pressure in the downstream region of the mean shock and that in the separation bubble,the authors suggest that the low frequency oscillation of the shock is not caused by the upstream turbulent disturbance,but rather the instability of separation bubble.

CORRECTION METHODS FOR STEADY INCOMPRESSIBLE FLOWS

Correction methods for the steady semi-periodic motion of incompressible fluid are investigated. The idea is similar to the influence matrix to solve the lack of vorticity boundary conditions. For any given boundary condition of the vorticity, the coupled vorticity-stream function formulation is solved. Then solve the governing equations with the correction boundary conditions to improve the solution. These equations are numerically solved by Fourier series truncation and finite difference method. The two numerical techniques are employed to treat the non-linear terms. The first method for small Reynolds number R equals 0-50 has the same results as that in M. Anwar and S.C.R. Dennis' report. The second one for R greater than 50 obtains the reliable results. (Author abstract) 4 Refs.

Role of plasminogen activators and inhibitors in reproduction

The recent progress in the studies on the role of local and directed fibrinolysis controlled by plasminogen activators (PAs) and regulated by their inhibitors (PAIs) in reproduction is summarized. Hormone-induced coordinated expression of tissue type PA (tPA) and PAI type-1 (PAI-1) in the ovary is involved in the processes of ovulation and luteal regression; increases in urokinase type PA (uPA) and PAI-1 activity in the early stage of luteinized follicles may be responsible for ovarian tissue remodeling and angiogenesis; the PA system has been found to play an important role in spermatogenesis in testis and modulation of sperm maturation in epididymis. PA and matrix matalloproteanase (MMP) and their respective inhibitors have also been identified in trophoblast and uterus. The targeted proteolytic activity generated by the two systems may play an essential role in the processes of the cyclic uterine angiogenesis, implantation and pla-centation as well as parturition.

The establishment of crystal position look-up table for positron emission tomography with block detectors

A method has been developed to establish the crystal position look-up table for positron emission tomography with block detectors. It is based on the principle that the counts in crystal position histogram obey the Gaussian mixture model (GMM). This method has taken full consideration of the characteristics of the GMM and the detector itself. The experimental results have proved that it is simple, reliable, and universal.

The influence of attention on memorizing related items and on available long-term memory (ALTM) was explored,showing that N400 of no-memory items was more negative than that of the memory *** results of the category comparison task indicated that information processing under attention-driven in WM determined the availability of related long-term memory,i.e.,specific content,which was formerly concerned or ignored,yielding different indirect semantic priming *** indicate that the orientation of conceptual attention leads the related representations of LTM to diverse activation patterns,supporting the activation-based model.

Since the concept of zero-knowledge protocols was introduced, it has attracted a lot of attention and in turn showed significant effect on the development of cryptography, complexity theory and other areas. The round complexity of a zero-knowledge protocol is a very important efficiency consideration, and it is required to be as small as possible. Generally, it is desirable to have zero-knowledge protocols with constant numbers of rounds. Goldreich and Oren proved that only languages in BPP have one-round and two-round zero-knowledge protocols. Moreover, they also showed that only languages in BPP have one-round honest-verifier zero-knowledge protocols. The notion of honest-verifier zero-knowledge protocols is highly non-trivial and fascinating itself, and has many other uses. Thus, the problem as to whether there exist two-round honest-verifier zero-knowledge protocols becomes an important open problem. In this paper, we introduce a new simulation technique and present a two-round honest-verifier zero-knowledge protocol for any language in N P under a standard complexity assumption based on this technique.

Geometry of Broad Line Regions of Active Galactic Nuclei

It has long remained an open question as to the geometry of the broad line region （BLR） in active galactic nuclei （AGNs）. The reverberation mapping technique which measures the response of the broad emission lines to the ionizing continuum, when combined with multiwavelength continuum fitted by sophisticated accretion disks, provides a way of probing the BLR geometry. We analyze a sample of 35 AGNs, which have been monitored by the reverberation mapping campaign. In view of energy budget, the reverberation-based BH masses are found to be in agreement with those obtained by accretion disk models in two thirds of the present sample while the reverberation mapping methods underestimate the BH masses in about one third of objects, as also suggested by CoUin et al. in a recent work. We point out that there are obviously two kinds of BLR geometry, which are strongly dependent on the Eddington ratio, and separated by the value LBol/LEdd - 0.1. These results prefer a scenario of the disk and wind configuration of the BLR and identify the Eddington ratio as the physical driver regulating the wind in the BLR.

Genesis of ^(230)Th excess in basalts from mid-ocean ridges and ocean islands:Constraints from the global U-series isotope database and major and rare earth element geochemistry

Based on 230Th-238U disequilibrium and major element data from mid-ocean ridge basalts(MORBs) and ocean island basalts(OIBs),this study calculates mantle melting parameters,and thereby investigates the origin of 230Th excess.(230Th/238U) in global MORBs shows a positive correlation with Fe8,Po,Na8,and Fmelt(Fe8 and Na8 are FeO and Na2O contents respectively after correction for crustal fractionation relative to MgO = 8 wt%,Po=pressure of initial melting and Fmelt=degree of melt),while 230Th excess in OIBs has no obvious correlation with either initial mantle melting depth or the average degree of mantle ***,compared with the MORBs,higher(230Th/238U) in OIBs actually corresponds to a lower melting *** suggests that the 230Th excess in MORBs is controlled by mantle melting conditions,while the 230Th excess in OIBs is more likely related to the deep garnet *** vast majority of calculated initial melting pressures of MORBs with excess 230Th are between 1.0 and 2.5 GPa,which is consistent with the conclusion from experiments in recent years that DU>DTh for Al-clinopyroxene at pressures of >1.0 *** initial melting pressure of OIBs is 2.2-3.5 GPa(around the spinel-garnet transition zone),with their low excess 226Ra compared to MORBs also suggesting a deeper mantle ***,excess 230Th in MORBs and OIBs may be formed respectively in the spinel and garnet stability *** addition,there is no obvious correlation of K2O/TiO2 with(230Th/238U) and initial melting pressure(Po) of MORBs,so it is proposed that the melting depth producing excess 230Th does not tap the spinel-garnet transition *** and MORBs in both(230Th/238U) vs.K2O/TiO2 and(230Th/238U) *** plots fall in two distinct areas,indicating that the mineral phases which dominate their excess 230Th are ***/Yb-Ce curves of fast and slow ridge MORBs are similar,while,in comparison,the Ce/Yb-Ce curve for OIBs shows more influence from *** mechanism
