According to the theory given in the paper , the long time electrolysis experiment with titanium cathode in heavy water (D 2O) were done for many times by using the open-loop multi-parameters electrolysis calorimetry system, which is established by us. The specialty is that the cathode is titanium rod and the anode is platinum wire. The early experiment result is still repeated in our recent experiment. The obvious "excess heat" phenomenon can take place only when the electrolysis last more than ten days and amount of "excess heat" increased with the electrolysis time. The "excess heat" can also be obtained from the "boiling to dry" experiment. In the recent experiment, we obtain the results that the amount of "excess heat" is about 3.6 times the input energy, the "excess heat" power is 76.5 W, and the "excess heat" power density is 121.7 W/cm 3. After the electrolysis, the crystal structure of the Ti cathode was measured with x-ray diffraction apparatus. We found that the crystal structure of Ti cathode was changed to face-centered cubic structure of TiD 2 from its hexagonal structure. This result is in agreement with the Gou’s theory mentioned in reference .

To explore a potential means for the early diagnosis of Alzheimer disease, we studied the relationship of resting T2* signal and tau hyperphosphorylation/spatial memory deficit. The rat model with tau hyperphosphorylation and spatial memory deficit was established by bilateral hippocampi injection of isoproterenol (IP). Then, the correlative alteration between resting T2* signal and spatial memory retention was assessed with blood oxygenation level dependent (BOLD) functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) study and Morris Water Maze test, and Western blot was employed to confirm tau hyperphosphorylation. The analysis showed following results. (1) Tau phosphorylation at Ser396/Ser404 and Ser199/Ser202 was signifi- cantly increased in IP-injected rats as detected by PHF-1 and tau-1, respectively. (2) An AD-like spatial memory retention disturbance was induced at 24 h after isoproterenol injection. (3) A sensitivity threshold of resting T2* signal intensity, which separated the IP-treated rats from vehicle control, was obtained by applying linear regression analysis, and an estimated sensitivity statistical threshold was at 32.62. These results suggest that resting T2* signal may serve as a noninvasive quantitative marker in predicting AD-like spatial memory deficits and tau hyperphosphorylation.

Track fading is a basic phenomenon in track science and has been the source of informa- tion in geosciences. This article summarizes the knowledge of track fading and gives some examples of successful applications of track fading in archaeology, tectonics and geothermal chronology in china. The applications of track fading are classified into 5 modes：（1） mode of complete fading （annealing）; （2） mode of partial fading; （3） use of the dependence of track fading on time and temperature; （4） use of the differences of track fading between coexisting minerals; and （5） use of fading-reduced track length. Track fading mechanisms hints that scientists in geothermal chronology should adopt microprobes for quantitative elemental analysis to determine the detailed chemical compositions of each mineral grain or at least of the grains from each position of geological structures in order that one becomes well aware of the relation between the track fading behavior and chemical compositions of the mineral used.

Huangqi (Astragalus membranaceus), a traditional Chinese medicine, has been used to ameliorate side effects of cancer chemotherapy in china. However, little is known about its molecular mechanisms. Here we show that induction of K562 or HEL cells with 1.5 mg/ml of Huangqi (Hex) (Components extracted from Huangqi) for 3–5 d results in the expression of β-globin gene in both cell lines and leads to terminal differentiation. Moreover, the apoptosis in HEL cells can be induced by increasing concentration of Huangqi (Hex) to 4.5 mg/ml for 3–5 d. Upregulation of Apaf-1, caspase-3 and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) in HEL cells may play a crucial role in the process of apoptosis. The prospect of inducing expression of adult (β) globin gene and apoptosis selectively in cancer cells is obviously attractive from a therapeutic point of view.

Asip is a mammalian homologue of polarity protein Par-3 of Caenorhabditis elegans and Bazooka of Drosophila melanogaster. Asip/Par-3/Bazooka are PDZ-motif containing proteins that localize asymmetrically to the cell periphery and play a pivotal role in cell polarity and asymmetric cell division. In the present study, we have cloned human asip cDNA and its splicing variants by 5’-RACE and RT-PCR using candidate human EST clones which have a high homology to rat asip cDNA. The full-length cDNA of human asip encodes a 1,353 aa protein exhibiting 88% similarity to the rat one. Human asip is a single copy gene consisting of at least 26 exons and localizing in human chromosome 10, band p11.2, with some extraordinarily long introns. All exon/intron boundary nucleotides conform to the "gt-ag" rule. Three main transcripts were detected by Northern blot analysis, and at least five variants, from alternative splicing and polyadenylation, have been identified by RT-PCR and liver cDNA library screening. Exon 17b deleted asip mRNAs expressed ubiquitously in normal human tissues, including liver, on RT-PCR analysis. However, they were absent from most human liver cancer cell lines examined. More interestingly, the expression of exon 1 7b deleted variants was down regulated in 52.6% (10/19) clinic specimens of human hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs), compared with the surrounding nontumorous liver tissues from the same patients. The presence of various splicing transcripts, the variation of their distribution among different tissues and cells, and their differential expressions in human HCCs suggest that human Asip isoforms may function in different context.

Two multigene superfamilies, named V1R and V2R, encoding seven-transmembrane-domain G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs) have been identified as pheromone receptors in mammals. Three V2R gene families have been described in mouse and rat. Here we screened the updated mouse genome se- quence database and finally retrieved 63 putative functional V2R genes including three newly identified genes which formed a new additional family. We described the genomic organization of these genes and also characterized the conservation of mouse V2R protein sequences. These genomic and se- quence information we described are useful as part of the evidence to speculate the functional domain of V2Rs and should give aid to the functionality study in the future.

The microstructure of Ti-33wt-％ Al-(1.6-4.5)wt-％ Mn alloys are composed of γ+α_2 phases,but the volume of x_2-phase is a *** alloying decreases the lattice parameters a and c of γ-phase and the c/a ratio becomes nearly to one,because the atomic radius of Mn is less than the atomic radius of Ti or *** alloying promotes the formation of twins in γ-phase and increases the ability of plastic deformation of TiAl alloys at room tem- perature.

Using a neutron activation analysis technique, which involves gamma-spectrometry with a Ge(Li) detector coupled to a S40 multichannel analyzer and interfaced to a PDP-11 computer, we determined thirty-eight elements in sediments from the lower reach (downstream from Jinan) and estuary of Huanghe. The results are discussed in this *** inter-elemental correlations, it ts found that a large number of metals (***, Co, ***, Rb, Sc, Ti, Ta, V and Zn) correlate positively with Fe. Ba and Ca correlate positively with Al. Whereas some elements (e. g. , Ti and lanthanides) show no correlation with either Fe or Al. On the other hand, Hf and Zr show a negative correlation with Fe. Elements which tend to be scavenged by Fe and Al colloids or suspended particles are enriched in sediments at the Huanghe Estuary relative to its lower reach. On the other hand, the contents of some elements (e. g. , Zr,Hf,U, Ba, etc. )are higher in sediments from the lower reach of Huanghe than in the estuarine sediments,which may be related to the sorting during deposition of source materials. On the basis of their chemical property and geochemical behavior, the 38 elements we studied are classified into seven groups. (1) weathering-prone elements,group A:K,Rb, Cs and Na; (2) weathering-prone elements, group B:Mg, Ca, Ba and Al; (3) transition elements:Fe, ***, Zn, As, Sb, Mn, Cr, W,Mo,V, Ta and Sc; (4) rare elements:group A (Zr and Hf) and group B (Ti); (5) rare earth elements:the lanthanides; (6) halogens: Cl and Br; amd (7) natural radioactive elements:U and Th. The basis for this classification is discussed and we emphasize that geochemical associations of elements in the natural environment are not necessarily in accord with their chemical properties as dictated by position at the periodic table.
