Aim:To determine whether glycine could downregulate interleukin 1 receptorassociated kinase-4(IRAK-4)expression to interfere with lipopolysaccharides(LPS)signal transduction and blunt transplantative liver ischemia-reperfusioninjury(I/RI).Methods:SD rats were randomly divided into two groups:donoranimals of the glycine group(n=40)were given glycine(1.5 mL;300 mmol/L,iv)1h before harvest,and the control group were treated with 1.5 mL physiologicalsaline(n=40).Orthotropic liver transplantation was then performed according tothe Kamada *** animals in each group were followed up for 7 d aftersurgery to assess *** remaining animals in each group were dividedinto 3 subgroups(n=10)at 1h,2h and 6 h after portal vein *** ofLPS,serum aspartate aminotransferase(AST),alanine aminotransferase(ALT)and total bilirubin in portal circulation,as well as IRAK-4 and TNF-α expression,NF-κB transcriptional activity and morphological study of liver tissues ***:Reperfusion resulted in a significant elevation of LPS concen-trations in each group persisting to the end of our ***,glycine,whichled to improved survival rate and liver function,significantly alleviated liver pa-renchyma cell damage by downregulating 1RAK-4,TNF-α expression and NF-κBtranscriptional activity compared with the control ***:Glycinecan attenuate hepatic I/RI by downregulating IRAK-4 to interfere with LPS signaltransduction.

BACKGROUND: Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and nerve growth actor (NGF) cam improve spatial learning and memory abilities of rats with cerebral ischemia/reperfusion; however, the effect of combination of them on relieving learning and memory injury following cerebral ischemia/reperfusion should be further studied. OBJECTIVE: To study the effects of exogenous CGRP and NGF on learning and memory abilities of rats with focal cerebral ischemia/reperfusion. DESIGN: Randomized controlled animal study. SETTING: Department of Neurosurgery, the Second Hospital of Xiamen; Department of Neurosurgery, the Second Affiliated Hospital of china medical University; Department of Neurobiology, Basic medical college of china medical University. MATERIALS: A total of 30 healthy male SD rats, aged 8 weeks, of clean grade, weighing 250-300 g, were provided by Experimental Animal Department of china medical University. All rats were randomly divided into sham-operation group, ischemia/reperfusion group and treatment group with 10 in each group. The main reagents were detailed as the follows: 100 g/L chloral hydrate, 0.5 mL CGRP (2 mg/L, Sigma Company, USA), and NGF (1× 106 U/L, 0.5 mL, Siweite Company, Dalian). METHODS: The experiment was carried out in the Department of Neurobiology, Basic medical college of china medical University from February to July 2005. Rat models of middle cerebral artery occlusion were established by method of occlusion, 2 hours after that rats were anesthetized and the thread was slightly drawn out for 10 mm under direct staring to perform reperfusion. Rats in the ischemia/reperfusion group received intraperitoneal injection of 1 mL saline via the abdomen at two hours later, while rats in the treatment group at 2 hours later received intraperitoneal injection of 2 mg/L CGRP (0.5 mL) and 1×106 U/L NGF (0.5 mL) once a day for 10 successive days. User Objects are the basement in developing distributed PowerBuilder applications. There are two kinds of PowerBuilder objects: visual objects and non-visual objects. Usually we use non-visual objects to perform the PowerBuilder distriuted application. This paper introduces the method of developing PowerBuilder distributed application program, mainly discusses the application of nonvisual objects when developing PowerBuilder distributed application programs.

Simulation of g factor for size optimization and coupling in phased array coil design

The effect of geometric parameters of the coil element in an array on signal-to-notse ratio (SNR) and g factor of parallel imaging are analyzed, and the optimal parameters for the maximal SNR and minimal g factor are also given in this paper. In addition, the effects of coupling on SNR and g factor have been analyzed. The test results indicate that g factor for parallel imaging is greatly increased and SNR is decreased for coupling. According to the optimization, a six-channel parallel coil has been designed for torso imaging.

Intercellular Adhension Molecule-1 in the Pathogenesis of Heroin-induced Acute Lung Injury in Rats

The expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) in the pathogenesis of heroin-induced acute lung injury (ALI) in rats was investigated. The model of ALI was established by intravenous injection of heroin into tail vein in rats. Thirty-six rats were randomly divided into heroin-treated groups (1 h, 2 h, 4 h, 6 h and 24 h) and normal control group. Changes in histopathologic morphology and biological markers of ALI were measured. The expression of ICAM-1 in lung tissue was detected by using immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR. The results showed that the W/D ratio and protein contents in BALF of the heroin-treated groups were significantly higher than that of the control group (Pgroups. The ICAM-1 protein and mRNA expression in the lung tissue of heroin-treated groups were significantly increased as compared with that of the control group (P<0.01), and correlated with the ALI parameters in a time-dependent manner. Increasing of ICAM-1 expression was involved in the formation of heroin-induced lung injury. Furthermore, the level of expression was positively correlated with the severity of lung injury.

Probability parametric imaging with DCE-MRI data to identify prostate cancer in the peripheral zone

To quantitatively analyze prostate dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance images (DCE-MRI), a retrospective study was carried out to construct a mathematical model to predict whether a lesion is cancerous or not. With known diagnosis of 52 re-gions-of-interest (10 malignant, 26 benign and 16 normal) in peripheral zone (PZ) of prostate from 18 patients undergoing needle biopsy and 8 normal volunteers, we combined feature parameters (k1, k2 and tp) from the linear-slope model with logistic regression to determine the statistical probability model. Prostate cancerous probability maps were derived using the model on each subject to examine the correlation between the model-based prediction and the known diagnosis. Compared the model prediction results of 52 regions-of-interest with the histopathologic results, the total agreement rate was 90.4 % ; the agreement rate was 60 % for the malignant and 97. 6 % for the nonmalignant. The diagnostic results only referencing the probability maps by two radiologists showed a high agreement in tissue characteristics and lesion location with the combining results from other diagnostic techniques such as PSA (prostate specific antigen) level and MRS (magnetic resonance spectroscopy) .

Effect of All-trans Retinoic Acid on Liver Fibrosis Induced by Common Bile Duct Ligation in Rats

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect and possible mechanism of all-trans retinoic acid （ATRA） on liver fibrosis induced by common bile duct ligation （CBDL） in rats. Fifty-three female Wistar rats were randomly divided into 5 groups： sham operation group （group J, 5 animals） and groups A, B, C and D （12 animals in each group）. The rats in groups A, B, C and D were subjected to CBDL to induce liver fibrosis, while those in group J to sham operation. From the 3rd week the rats in groups B, C and D respectively received daily administration of ATRA via gas- tric tube at three different doses [0.1, 1.5 and 7.5 mg/kg body weight （BW）]. Animals were sacrificed at 6th week. Rats＇ liver tissues were observed for pathologic changes under a light microscope. The protein levels of type Ⅰ collagen （COLⅠ）, matrix metalloproteinase-2 （MMP2）, MMP13 and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1 （TIMP-1） in liver tissues were determined by immunohistochemical techniques. The expression levels of TGF-β1 and CTGF mRNA in liver tissues were detected by semi-quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction （RT-PCR）. The results showed that loss of normal hepatic architecture and formation of obvious fibrosis were observed in group A, while ATRA treatment for 4 weeks notably alleviated the pathological changes of hepatocytes. The expres- sion of COL Ⅰ and TIMP-1 proteins in group A was increased, while decreased in ATRA-treated CBDL groups （P〈0.05）. ATRA （1.5 and 7.5 mg/kg BW） reduced the expression levels of COLⅠ protein more greatly than that of 0.1 mg/kg BW （P〈0.05）. ATRA treatment increased the protein levels of MMP2 and MMP13. The expression levels of TGF-β1 and CTGF mRNA in group A were increased. In comparison with group A, the mRNA levels of TGF-β1 and CTGF in ATRA-treated CBDL groups were significantly decreased （P〈0.05）. It was concluded that ATRA could inhibit CBDL-induced liver fibrosis in rats by suppressing the expression of TGF-β1 and CTGF so as to
