The early Precambrian North china craton(NCC) in eastern Hebei Province(also known as the Jidong area) was intruded by granitic batholiths and plutons spatially associated with gold deposits. No consensus has been reached regarding timing and tectonic setting of the gold deposits,chiefly due to the lack of reliable geochronological *** gold deposits in the district are localized by NE-striking faults within granite plutons and/or nearby Archean amphibolites,as well as in Proterozoic sedimentary *** mineralizations in the area are characterized by quartz(±albite) veinand sulfide-disseminated styles;both types of ores have relatively low sulfide contents(240 and 400℃,and estimates of the trapping pressures vary significantly from 0.5 to 3.7 *** isotope(O,H,S,C,and Pb) data from these deposits indicate a major magmatic component in the mineralizing fluids and the ore-forming materials,with a partial contribution by Archean host rocks,suggesting that these deposits are basically intrusion-related. SHRIMP zircon U-Pb geochronology of the gold-hosting granitic intrusions,in combination with previous Ar-Ar and Rb-Sr dates on hydrothermal minerals(e.g.,sericite),indicates that there was no Archean gold mineralization,but instead suggests that at least three episodes of granitic magmatism and associated gold mineralization took place during the Mesozoic.

The North china Craton(NCC) lost its Archean keels in the *** and intensive magmatism,mineralization,and the development of an extensional basin in the late Mesozoic NCC imply that the late Mesozoic could be the key stage for this transformation. Ultramafic xenoliths in the early-Cretaceous high-Mg diorites of Shandong province might provide key information about the massive transformation of sub-continental lithospheric mantle (SCLM) beneath the eastern part of the *** we present a unique composite dunite-orthopyroxenite xenolith from Tietcnggou,one of the high-Mg diorite-dominated plutons in Laiwu,Shandong *** petrography and mineral chemistry of the xenolith suggest complicated metasomatic processes which occurred before its entrainment in the host magma. Early-stage metasomatism includes the growth of intergranular phlogopite and clinopyroxene,and the development of a phlogopite- and amphibole-bearing clinopyroxenite ***-stage metasomatism(termed Si(Na) metasomatism) is characterized by the growth of secondary orthopyroxene,Na-rich plagioclase and amphibole with resorption of olivine and clinopyroxene, and the decomposition of *** xenolith has exceptionally high concentrations of NaO and AlO,and shows enrichments in Cs,Rb,Th,U,K,and the light rare earth *** also shows positive Pb and Sr anomalies and negative Nb,Ta,P and Ti anomalies in a primitive mantle-normalized spider *** geochemistry,as well as the elevatedδO(6.9‰),suggests that this Si(Na) metasomatism is associated with *** secondary orthopyroxene in the orthopyroxenite portion of the xenolith has exceptionally low Mg# values,which may be the result of reaction between silica-rich melts and olivine with high melt:rock ***-Fe disequilibrium of the minerals in the orthopyroxenite indicates that Si(Na) metasomatism may have been introduced shortly before entrainment of the xenolith in the host *** of the Sr-Nd-Pb

He is now Research Professor at the Institute of Mineral Deposits Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences and has long been engaged in geology metallogenesis and regional metallogeny of metallic ore deposits with emphases on cooper deposits and volcanic and sedex metallic deposits.

Four metallogenic epochs occurred in different tectonic environments during theevolution of the Northern Qilian metallogenic province through the geological time. The Mid-dle Proterozoic metallogenic epoch witnessed the tectonic environment of crustal breakupcaused by mantle diapirism, in which ultramafic-mafic rocks were intruded along beep faultbelts and the superlarge Jinchuan magmatic Cu-Ni sulphide deposit was formed. In theMiddle-Late Proterozoic metallogenic epoch the crust was further broken to form anintracontinental rift, in which the Chenjiamiao style massive Cu-Fe sulphide deposits hosted bybasic volcanic tuff were formed in the lower volcano-sedimentary sequence, while the largesedex type Jingtieshan style Fe-Cu deposits were formed within the upper abyssal carbon-richargillaceous sedimentary sequence. The Early Palaeozoic saw the aulacogen environment, with-in which the Baiyinchang style superlarge massive base and precious metal sulphide depositshosted by quartz keratophyric tuff were formed in the Middle-Late Cambrian rifted island arcand the massive Cu-Zn sulphide deposits and magmatic chromite deposits associated with theophiolite suite were formed in the Early-Middle Ordovician, and the Honggou style massiveCu-Fe sulphide deposits hosted by spilite were formed in the Late Ordovician back-arc basinenvironment. In the Late Palaeozoic-Meso-Cenozoic, the metallogenic province went into anintracontinental orogenic stage characterized by compressive tectonic environment, in whichthere occurred carbonate-quartz vein type and tectono-alteration gold deposits associated withductile-shear structures.

Gold-rich porphyry copper deposits of Cenozoic are dominantly generated in subduction-related volcanoplutonic arcs and continental margin arc at convergent plate boundaries. Most of those older deposits appear to occur in island-arc terranes accreted to continental margins. The porphyry stocks span a range of compositions,from low K calc-alkaline diorite,quartz diorite and tonalite,through high K calc-alkaline quartz monzonite,to alkaline monzonite and syenite;and commonly emplaced at shallow crustal level(1～2km) and,hence,are likely to be associated with coeval volcanic *** hydrothermal breccias are commonly associated with gold-rich porphyry *** broad alteration types are identified in these deposits,from early to late in time,including Ca-Na silicate alteration,potassic silicate alteration,propylitic alteration, intermediate argillic alteration,sericitic(phyllic) alteration and advanced argillic alteration,and advanced argillic alteration occurred in the same time as K-feldsparization *** of gold is introduced with copper during potassic silicate alteration stage,and gold contents also correlate well with the intensity of A type quartz *** gold-rich porphyry copper deposits are deficient in molybdenum,rich in platinum group elements,especially rich in palladium and *** key controlling processes on gold-rich porphyry copper deposits include:(1) source rich in ore-forming elements,(2) mechanism for Cu,Au and other mineralization elements efficient move into magma melt,(3) Cu,Au and other ore-forming elements have not been lost in the processes of magma evolution,(4)magmatic volatile efficiently escapes from magma,and the earlier,the more favorable for mineralization,(5) Cu,Au mineralized elements efficiently move into magmatic volatile,(6) developing relatively closed system at the top of ore-forming porphyries to inhibit the abscondence of magma volatile,(7) Cu and Au-bearing ore-forming fluid efficiently deposit,a

The Xiaodonggou porphyry Mo deposit is located in the Mesozoic calc-alkaline Xiaodonggou granitoid within a Palaeozoic fold zone of northern *** mineralization mainly occurred in an area of 0.54 km at the south-eastern part of the Xiaodonggou *** mineralization includes disseminated molybdenite, pyrite,chalcopyrite,magnetite and pyrrhotite and stockwork quartz-sulfide veins.A molybdenite-rich inner core is surrounded by a concentric zone of the sulfide mineral assemblage of pyrite,galena and sphalerite. Intense potassic alteration is overprinted by sericitization and silicification in the mineralized *** U-Pb data of zircon indicate that the granitoid crystallized at 142±2 Ma(2a).Re-Os age dating for six molybdenite samples from underground galleries of the deposit constrains the age of porphyry-style Mo mineralization to be 138.1±2.8 Ma(2a).These data suggest that porphyry-style mineralization was associated with the Xiaodonggou granitoid intrusion and support an Early Cretaceous porphyry-type metallogenic epoch along the northern margin of North china Craton.

REVIEWING the history of the geology of mineral deposits, we may find that in the first fifty years of thetwentieth century the magmatic-hydrothermal theory of ore deposition was the most prevalent, whichgave impetus to the development of the geology of mineral deposits. In the 1960s, the drilling of theSalton Sea geothermal field, California, the United States, and discovery and study of the Red Sea seafloor hot brines and large amounts of metal sulfides removed therefrom led to the rise of the brine theory ofmineral deposition, thus elucidating the origin of massive metal sulfides and promoted the discoveryand exploration of metal deposits. Fluid inclusions from the Dajing and Caijiaying deposits have nearly the same homogenization *** between temperature and salinity shows that both Snand Cu-bearing fluids Sn and Cu were present in the Dajing deposit but only one kind of fluids continuously evolved in the Caijiaying *** on rare earth elements(REE) in ancient fluid from the inclusions indicates that the fluid of Sn mineralizing stage in Dajing was derived from remelting magma of the continental crust,and the fluid of Cu-Pb-Zn mineralizing stage in the Dajing deposit and the fluid of Cu-Pb-Zn mineralization in the Caijiaying deposit were derived from the *** is concluded that the Cu-Pb-Zn mineralizations in the Dajing and Caijiaying deposits resulted from the identical tectono-thermal event of magma-fluids induced by Mesozoic tectonic transition and extension in the eastern part of North china Craton.
