INVERSION OF STRIKE-SLIP MOVEMENTS ALONG THE YARLUNG ZANGBO SUTURE ZONE, TIBET

Meso\| and microstructural characteristics of cataclastic fault rocks developed in the Xialu chert are described. The Xialu chert represents pelagic and deep marine sediments (Middle Jurassic—Lower Cretaceous), and occupies the southern marginal part of the E—W trending Yarlung Zangbo suture zone. The apparent total thickness of siliceous deposits exceeds 1km. The current study is concentrated along the two measured sections, Xialu\|E and Xialu\|W. The Xialu\|E section is composed mainly of red chert associated with reddish purple siliceous mudstone and greenish gray mudstone. The beds steeply dip north or south. The 45m section studied is divided into three units (chert unit, chert\|siliceous mudstone unit, and melange unit from north to south). They are in fault contact with each other. In the southern half of the chert unit and the northernmost of the chert\|siliceous mudstone unit, a 15m thick cohesive cataclasite zone can be defined. The cataclasites are composed of chert fragments in a fine grained matrix, and deformed with jigsaw puzzle structures. The chert\|siliceous mudstone unit is made up of four slabs of chert\|siliceous mudstone sequence. Mesoscopic duplex zones in thickness from 1 to 3m are recognized at slab boundaries. Flat and ramp structure and associated P foliations, R1 shears, Y surfaces are developed. Shear spacing range from 1 to 10cm. The slip senses are dextral strike\|slip movement along these duplex zones. The cataclasite zone is cut by the duplex zone along the southern boundary.

Thespectra ofthe Faraday rotation andtheoptical absorption were measured inthenearinfrared region fordifferentCe3 + ionsdopediron garnets. The Cesub stitution prominentlyenhancesthe Faradayeffect,andthe Yb and Euionssubstitutefor Yinthe dodecahedralsitesof YIGcanincreasetheconcentration of Ce3 + ions, depresstheforma tion of nonmagnetic Ce4 + ionsbythechargecompensation.

Induction of inosine containing mRNA during the inflammatory stress in C57BL/6 mouse

A-to-I RNA editing is a recently discovered process of post-transcription modification of pre-mRNA by adenosine deamination that results in the production of pro-teins not inherent in the genome. The present study aimed to identify a role for A-to-I RNA editing in the acute inflamma-tion. It was found that A-to-I edtiting activities of RNA edi-tases, ADARs, were upregulated in lung, spleen, thymus and lymph node of mouse during endotoxin stimulation. Impor-tantly, the number of inosine in poly(A) RNA isolated from mouse lung and spleen was significantly increased in corre-lating with the induction of ADARs?editing activity. The in vitro synthesized RNA which did not contain inosine was edited by thymus extracts and the generation of inosine was greatly increased after editing in LPS treated thymus extract. Take together, these data suggest that A-to-I RNA editing by ADARs may play an important role in pathogenesis of in-flammation. The existence of high level of I-mRNA also sug-gests that more protein isoforms might be generated from a single gene via adenosine deamination by ADARs during inflammatory stress.

Frequency Effects of Fine Thin Layer

One of the most important research task in reservoir engineering now is to resolve the fine thin layer. What are the characteristics of the fine thin layer? This paper gives the answer in frequency domain. The frequency feature of fine thin layer set obtained is grating. The frequence effects of rhythmic thin layer, on the other hand, is different from those of graded thin layer; the grating effect of fine layer is affected by several factors, but the thickness and its inner layer number are the most predominant factors over others affecting grating effect.

The conception of k_uniform smoothness (KUS) is introduced. It is the extension of the conception of uniform smoothness. It is proved that the k_uniform smoothness and Sullivan’s K_uniform rotundity (KUR) are the daul notions. X+* is a KUR space if and only if X is a KUS space, X+* is a KUS space if and only if X is a KUR space. If X is a KUS space, then X is a (K+1)US space. It is also proved that the KUS space includes the Nan’s k_strongly smooth space.

Electrical Properties of Expanded Graphite Intercalation Compounds

The intercalation compounds of CuCl2 were synthesized with expanded graphite, whose magnitude of the electrical conductivity is about 10(3)S(.)cm(-1). Their electrical conductivity is 3 similar to6 times as high as that of the expanded graphite, and about 10 times as high as that of GIC made of the non-expanded graphite. The microanalysis results of chemical compounds by X-ray energy spectrum scanning of TEM testified that the atomic ratio of chloride and cupric is nonstoichoimetric. The multivalence and exchange of electrovalence of the cupric ion was confirmed by the XPS-ESCA. Vacancy of chlorine anion increases the concentration of charge carrier. The special stage structure, made of graphite and chloride, produces a weak chemical bond belt and provides a carrier space in the direction of GIC layer. These factors develop the electrical properties.

TIME-dependent （TD） quantum wave packet theory, with a relatively small amount of computational effort, has been widely used in quantum dynamics calculation of atom and molecule reaction scattering. Many computational scaling advantages of the TD method can be found apparently in polyatomic system. In this note, by using the TD quantum wave packet method with the potential-averaged 5D model （PA5D）, we give the calculated results of reaction probabilities, cross sections and rate constants for the H2 + OD reaction. 8-Hydroxyquinoling aluminum (Alq3) and 11, 11, 12, 12-tetracyano-9, 10-anthraquino dimethane(TCAQ) monolayer films and their heterostructure complex films were prepared by a vacuum deposition method. By means of surface photovoltage spectroscopy (SPS) and electric field-induced surface photovoltage spectroscopy (EFISPS), the band gaps of TCAQ and Alq3 monolayer films and the properties of the Alq3/TCAQ bilayer film were investigated. By analysing the mechanism and the results of the SPS and the EFISPS, a reasonable energy band structure of the Alq3/TCAQ complex film was roughly determined.

Damage and progressive failure of concrete structures using non-local peridynamic modeling

Peridynamics (PD), a recently developed theory of solid mechanics, which employs a non-local model of force interaction and makes use of integral formulation rather than the spatial partial differential equations used in the classical continuum mechanics theory, has shown effectiveness and promise in solving discontinuous problems at both macro and micro scales. In this paper, the peridynamics theory is used to analyze damage and progressive failure of concrete structures. A non-local peridynamic model for a rectangular concrete plate is developed, and a central pairwise force function is introduced to describe the interior interactions between particles within some definite distance. Damage initiation, evolution and crack propagation in the concrete model subject to in-plane uni-axial tension, in-plane uni-axial compression and out-of-plane impact load are investigated respectively. The numerical results show that discontinuities appear and grow spontaneously as part of the solution to the peridynamic equations of motion, and no special failure criteria or re-meshing techniques are required, which proves the potential of peridynamic modeling as a promising technique for analyzing the progressive failure of concrete materials and structures.
