Background The hemodynamics and oxygenation severely fluctuated during the offpump coronary artery bypass grafting (OPCABG) This study aimed at investigating whether or not nicardipine combined with esmolol (1∶10) can maintain systemic and tissue oxygenation during OPCABGMethods Twenty patients scheduled for OPCABG were divided ramdomly into Group nicardipine (N) and Group nitroglycerine (X) respectively combined with esmolol (E) (Dosage ratio: 1 to 10) (Group N+E and Group X+E) with 10 patients in each group The mixed solution of N+E or X+E were titrated to maintain mean arterial blood pressure between 70 and 80 mmHg following anesthesia induction The variables of hemodynamics, arterial blood lactate content (Lac) and gastric intramucosal partial pressure of carbon dioxide were measured at the following time points: after induction of anesthesia (T1), prerevascularization (T2), grafting of left anterior descending (T3), right coronary descending (T4) and left coronary circumflexus branches (T5), postrevascularization (T6), the end of operation (T7) The delivery of oxygen (DO2), consumption of oxygen (VO2) and gastric intramucosal pH (pHi) were calculatedResults The cardiac index (CI) in Group N+E was significantly increased (Ps compared with T1 during OPCABG, while it was mildly decreased in Group X+E The stroke volumes at T4, T5 in Group N+E and at T3T6 in Group X+E were significantly decreased (Psystemic vascular resistance indices in Group N+E were significantly decreased as compared with T1 (Ps in these two Groups were significantly elevated intraoperatively (P2 after the infusion of N+E was significantly increased (P2 in Group X+E was decreased throughout the procedure, reaching significant level at T5 (Ps significantly increased beyond normal range (P<005) The p

BACKGROUND: It is reported that shenfu injection (an injection prepared from traditional Chinese medicines red ginseng and aconite root) can decrease the extent of ischemia-reperfusion injury to many organs, such as the heart and kidney. We therefore investigated the effect of shenfu injection on ischemia-reperfusion injury of rat liver graft and its mechanism. METHODs: Male sprague Dawley (sD) rats were used as a model for isogeneic orthotopic liver transplantation. sixty rats were randomly devided into two groups (30 in each group). The recipient was given intravenous shenfu injection immediately before the removal of the liver in the shenfu group and normal saline of the same volume in the control group. At 3, 6 and 24 hours after the reperfusion, blood and hepatic tissue were taken for examination. REsULTs: The levels of superoxide dismutase (sOD) and nitric oxide (NO) increased more significantly in the shenfu group than in the control group (P s of serum liver enzymes, hyaluronic acid (HA), malondialde-hyde (MDA), tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α), inter-leukin-1 (IL-1), endothelin -1 (ET-1) and liver cell apopto-sis index were lower in the shenfu group than in the control group (P scopic examination revealed that the morphological changes of hepatic tissue were more severe in the control group than in the shenfu group. CONCLUsIONs: shenfu injection has protective effect on ischemia-reperfusion injury of rat liver graft. It inhibits the production of oxygen free radical and the activation of Kupffer cells, decreases apoptosis of liver cell, and improves microcirculation.

The statistical map is usually used to indicate the quantitative features of various socio economic phenomena among regions on the base map of administrative divisions or on other base maps which connected with statistical unit. Making use of geographic information system (GIs) techniques, and supported by Auto CAD software, the author of this paper has put forward a practical method for making statistical map and developed a software (sMT) for the making of small scale statistical map using C language.

BACKGROUND: Most physicians in china may neglect portal vein thrombosis(PVT) in clinical practice. In fact, portal vein thrombosis is an important cause of non-cir-rhotic portal hypertension. As the diversity of its clinical manifestations, misdiagnosis is common if we don t bear PVT in mind during differential diagnosis. Therefore, we systematically reviewed PVT in terms of etiology, patho-physiology, pathology, clinical manifestations, and management. DATA sOURCEs: An English-language literature search (from 1980 to 2004 ) was performed using Medline and Medscape, and articles closely related to PVT were selected. REsULTs: PVT is the second cause of portal hypertension after liver cirrhosis in western countries. Liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, ultra-abdominal infection, thrombophilic disorders including myeloproliferative diseases are strongly associated with the development of PVT. Liver transplantation is an emerging etiological factor of PVT with the development and wide use of this technique. Gastrointestinal bleeding resulted from esophageal varices, abdominal pain, splenomegaly and hypersplenism and asci-tes are common manifestations of PVT. However there are differences in etiological and clinical presentations between children and adults. Diagnosis of PVT depends on ima-ging-studies including Doppler ultrasonography, computed tomography ( CT), magnetic resonance imaging ( MRI), and portography. Endoscopic therapy is recommended for variceal bleeding in PVT. Anticoagulant treatment for acute PVT is widely accepted in western countries. CONCLUsIONs: PVT may be unrecognized as the clinical manifestations are unspecific. Misdiagnosis and delayed treatment can lead to poor prognosis. systematical collection of epidemiological and clinical data about PVT is necessary in china.

In this paper,a new upconversion luminescent material co-doped with Erbium and Ytterbium is reported. The upconversion luminescence transition routes and related properties are studied. The results show that the absorption and emission intensities under excitation of 980 nm laser increase with the increase of the Yb3+ concentration. The red emission is stronger than the green emission. The energy transfer process plays an important role in the upconversion mechanism.

Aim:To determine whether Ca2+/calcineurin mediated the inhibitory effects ofnitric oxide/cGMP-dependent protein kinase (NO/PKG) on the proliferation ofvascular smooth muscle cells (VsMC).Methods:Proliferation and viability ofprimary VsMC from rat aorta were measured using [3-(4,5-dimethyl thiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide] (MTT) assay and acridine orange and ethidiumbromide staining,*** Ca2+was determined by Fluo-3/*** protein and its activity were assayed using immunoblotting and freeinorganic phosphate analysis,***:(e)-s-nitroso-N-acetyl-penicillamine (sNAP) and sp-8-(4-chlorophenylthio)-guanosine-3′,5′-cyclicmonophosphorothioate (sp-8-pCPT-cGMPs) decreased phenylephrine (PE)-in-duced proliferation of VsMC by 27.3% and 36.6%,respectively,but Rp-8-[(4-chlorophenyl)thio]-guanosine-3′,5′-cyclic monophosphorothioate (Rp-8-pCPT-cGMPs) increased PE-induced proliferation of ***,sp-8-pCPT-cGMPs,and Rp-8-pCPT-cGMPs did not affect the viability of *** proteinwas decreased by 63.1% and its activity was decreased by 59.7% in smooth musclecells (sMC) pretreated with verapamil (Ver) and then stimulated by *** sMCpretreated with Vet,the absorbance of cells stimulated by PE decreased by 22.0%and was further inhibited by the additional treatment of sNAP and *** sMC pretreated with cyclosporin A (CsA),the absorbance of cellsstimulated by PE decreased by 36.7%,but could not be further altered by theadditional treatment of sNAP,sp-8-pCPT-cGMPs,and ***,Ver inhibited PE-induced intracellular Ca2+variations,which could befurther inhibited by sNAP and sp-8-pCPT-cGMPs,but not by ***,the increase in calcineurin activity induced by PE was inhibited bysNAP and sp-8-pCPT-cGMPs,but was promoted by ***:NO/PKG regulates calcineurin activity via the modulation of intracel-lular Ca2+concentration,and thus partially inhibits the prolifera

OBJECTIVE: To review the current state of research in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). DATA REsOURCEs: searching Medline (1994-2002) and Chinese Medical Journals Index (1998- 2002) for articles on NAFLD. REsULTs: NAFLD is a new and challenging field with increasing recognition although its pathogenesis is poorly understood. 'Two hits' hypothesis is still the leading theory guiding current research. CONCLUsIONs: Genetic study is a promising way that might lead to breakthrough in NAFLD research. NAFLD study in china is at an initial stage and there is a long way to go.

-Rock glaciers are developed at permafrost areas of periglacial environment in Tianshan Mountains [7,17]. Based on field surveying andair-photo interprestation, the paper discusses the shape, characteristics of supply area, formation conditions and environmental differentiations of rockglaciers at head area of Urmqi River (43°05'-43°08' N, 86°48’-86°53E) inKalawuchen Range and the head areas of Toudao River and Danangou River (43°30’-43°50’N, 85°00-85°30’E) in Yilanhabierga Rangu at shawanCounty. Formation conditions and morphological characteristics of rockglaciers are studies in terms of topographic conditions, climate, compositionand age.
