To evaluate the characteristics of chicken interleukin-18 (ChIL-18) in different forms in vitro,the ChIL-18 full-length gene (ChIL-18-F) and the ChIL-18 presumed mature protein gene (ChIL-18-M) werecloned and inserted into the eukaryotic expression vector pCI,to construct recombinant pCI-ChIL-18-Fand *** recombinant plasmids were then transferred into chicken splenic lymphocytes(CSLs).Western blot showed that ChIL-18-F,with a molecular weight of 23.0 kDa,was produced in CSLstransfected by pCI-ChlL-18-F;ChIL-18-M,with a molecular weight of 19.5 kDa,was produced in CSLstransfected by *** nitric oxide (NO) level in the transfected CSLs and the culture mediumat different time points was further examined under confocal microscopy using *** results showed that both pCI-ChIL-18-F and pCI-ChIL-18-M groups showed significantincrease in intracellular and extracellular NO production compared with pCI transfected control *** suggest that both ChIL-18-F and ChIL-18-M could stimulate NO secretion in *** characterizethe intracellular distribution of ChIL-18,ChIL-18-F and ChIL-18-M were each fused to the enhanced greenfluorescent protein gene,and expressed in Vero *** results showed that the ChIL-18-F tended to themembranous region in Vero cells,while ChIL-18-M did *** indicates that the N-terminal 27 amino acidpeptide helped ChIL-18 target to Veto cell membranes.

To provide basic toxicity data for formulating risk characterization benchmarks, the effects of lead on survival, locomotion, and sperm morphology were investigated in the Asian earthworm Pheretima guillelmi. The LC50 of P. guiUelmi for 7 and 14 d were 4285＋339 mg/kg and 3207＋248 mg/kg, which shows P. guillelmi can tolerate a higher concentration of lead nitrate. The average weight of the surviving earthworms decreased at concentration of 2800 mg Pb/kg soil, and the locomotor ability of earthworms exposed to a range of soil Pb concentrations showed a general decrease with increasing Pb concentrations. We also presented data depicting the sperm morphology of earthworms, which shows potential as a sensitive biomarker for measuring the effects of heavy metal on reproduction.

The network-on-chip (NoC) architecture is a main factor affecting the system performance of complicated multi-processor systems-on-chips (MPSoCs).To evaluate the effects of the NoC architectures on communication efficiency,several kinds of techniques have been developed,including various simulators and analytical *** simulators are accurate but time consuming,especially in large space explorations of diverse network configurations;in contrast,the analytical models are fast and flexible,providing alternative methods for performance *** this paper,we propose a general analytical model to esti-mate the communication performance for arbitrary NoCs with wormhole routing and virtual channel flow *** resolve the inherent dependency of successive links occupied by one packet in wormhole routing,we propose the routing path decomposition approach to generating a series of ordered link *** we use the traditional queuing system to derive the fine-grained transmission latency for each network *** to our experiments,the proposed analytical model provides a good approximation of the average packet latency to the simulation results,and estimates the network throughput precisely under various NoC configurations and ***,the analytical model runs about 10 5 times faster than the cycle-accurate NoC *** applications of the model including bottleneck detection and virtual channel allocation are also presented.

Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) and zucchini yellow mosaic virus (ZYMV) are two principal viruses infecting cucurbitaceous crops, and their synergy has been repeatedly observed. In our present work, a real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction procedure was established to study the accumulation kinetics of these two viruses in single and combined infections at the molecular level. The accumulations of open reading frames (ORFs) for 1a, 2a, 3a and coat protein (CP) of CMV and CP of ZYMV were tested. In the single infection, CMV-Fny ORFs accumulated to their maxima in cucumber or bottle gourd at 14 d post-inoculation (dpi), and gradually declined thereafter. ZYMV-SD CP ORF reached maximal accumulation at 14 and 28 dpi on cucumber and bottle gourd, respectively. However, when coinfected with CMV-Fny and ZYMV-SD, the maximal accumulation levels of all viral ORFs were delayed. CMV-Fny ORFs reached their maxima at 21 dpi on both hosts, and ZYMV-SD CP ORF reached maximal accumulation at 21 and 28 dpi on cucumber and bottle gourd, respectively. Generally, the accumulation levels of CMV-Fny ORFs in the co-infection were higher than those in the single infection, whereas the accumulation of ZYMV-SD CP ORF showed a reverse result.

To further elucidate interaction of nitroaromatic compounds with mineral surface, the sorption of m-dinitrobenzene （m-DNB） and nitrobenzene to original bentonite in aqueous solution containing different electrolytes （i.e., KCl, NH4Cl, CaCl2 and Tetramethylammonium bromide （TMAB）） was studied. The sorption of m-DNB was greatly enhanced with the presence of KCl and NH4Cl, while little influence was observed with CaCl2 and TMAB, following the order of KCl 〉 NH4Cl 〉〉 TMAB, CaCl2, or DI water. For nitrobenzene, sorption enhancement only occurred at high nitrobenzene concentrations in the presence of KCl, and the solute equilibrium concentration at inflexion point was lowered with increasing KCl concentration. These sorption enhancements were significantly promoted with the increase of electrolyte concentration. The salting-out effect is insufficient to account for the sorption enhancement by original bentonite with increasing KCI or NH4Cl concentration. X-ray diffraction patterns of bentonite suspensions indicated that the sorption enhancement of m-DNB was attributed to the intercalation of K^＋ or NH4^＋ into bentonite interlayer and then dehydration with m-DNB to form inner-sphere complexes, which caused previously expanded bentonite interlayers to collapse in aqueous suspension, thus further enhanced the interaction of phenyl with siloxane surface. In comparison, the sorption enhancement of NB is attributed to the formation of outer-sphere complexes with K^＋ at high solute-loadings （〉 20（0-400 mg/kg）. The sorption of m-DNB to initially modified TMA^＋-bentonite and K^＋-bentonite was almost the same as respective sorption to original bentonite in solution containing TMA^＋ and K^＋.

The phylogeny of Ptychostomum was first undertaken based on analysis of the internal transcribed spacer(ITS)region of the nuclear ribosomal(nr)DNA and by combining data from nrDNA ITS and chloroplast DNA rps4 *** parsimony,maximum likelihood,and Bayesian analyses all support the conclusion that the reinstated genus Ptychostomum is not *** funkii(Schw(a|¨)gr.)*** (≡Bryum funkii Schw(a|¨)gr.)is placed within a clade containing the type species of Bryum,*** Hedw. The remaining members of Ptychostomum investigated in the present study constitute another well-supported clade. Black carbons （e.g., charcoal） have a great impact on the transport of organic contaminants in soil and water because of its strong affinity and ubiquity in the environment. To further elucidate their interaction mechanism, sorption of polar （p-nitrotoluene, m-dinitrobenzene and nitrobenzene） and nonpolar （naphthalene） aromatic contaminants to burned straw ash charcoal under different de-ashed treatments were investigated. The sorption isotherms fitted well with Freundlich equation, and the Freundlich N values were all around 0.31-0.38, being independent of the sorbate properties and sorbent types. After sequential removal of ashes by acid treatments （HCl and HCl-HF）, both adsorption and partition were enhanced due to the enrichment of charcoal component. The separated contribution of adsorption and partition to total sorption were quantified. The effective carbon content in ash charcoal functioned as adsorption sites, partition phases, and hybrid regions with adsorption and partition were conceptualized and calculated. The hybrid regions increased obviously after de-ashed treatment. The linear relationships of Freundlich N values with the charring-temperature of charcoal or biochar （the charred byproduct in biomass pyrolysis） were observed based on the current study and the cited publications which included 15 different temperatures （100-850℃）, 10 kinds of precursors of charcoal/biochar, and 10 organic sorbates.

Gene and viral therapies for cancer have shown some therapeutic effects,but there has been a lack of real *** achieve the goal of complete elimination of tumor xenograft in animal models,we have developed a newstrategy called Targeting Gene-Virotherapy of Cancer,which aims to combine the advantages of both gene therapy *** new strategy has produced stronger anti-tumor effects than either gene or viral therapy alone.A tumor-specific replicative adenovirus vector,designated as ZD55,was constructed by deletion of the 55kDa E1B region *** resulting viral construct not only retains a similar function to ONYX-015 by specifically targeting p53negative tumors,but also allows for the insertion of various therapeutic genes to form appropriate ZD55 derivatives dueto the newly introduced cloning site,a task not feasible with the original ONYX-015 *** showed that the anti-tu-mor effect of one such derivative,ZD55-IL-24,is at least 100 times more potent than that of either ZD55 virotherapy orAd-IL-24 gene ***,complete elimination of tumor mass by the use of ZD55-IL-24 was only observedin some but not all mice,indicating that one therapeutic gene was not sufficient to"cure"these *** genes withcomplementary or synergetic effects were separately cloned into the ZD55 vector and used in combination(designatedas the Dual Gene Therapy strategy),much better results were obtained;and it was possible to achieve complete elimina-tion of all the xenograft tumor masses in all mice if two suitable genes were *** comprehensive studies basedon this new strategy will likely lead to a protocol for clinical ***,the concept of Double Controlled TargetingVirus-Dual Gene Therapy for cancer treatment,and the implication of the recent progress in cancer stem ceils are alsodiscussed.
