In aqueous organic solvents perfluoroalkyl 2-naphthoates (NpFCn ) with long fluorcoarbon chain show strong excimer fluorescence. Excitation of NpFCn in the mixed solution of NpFCn and 9-anthrylmethyl perfluoroalkanoates (AnFCn ) results in strone emission of AnFCn. These_observations suggest that hydrophobic interactions force fluorocarbon molecules to form aggregates.

Accumulating evidence shows that oxidative reactions occur in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and that β-amyloid (Aβ) may be one molecular link between oxidative stress and AD-associated brain dysfunction. It has been demonstrated that aggregation of Aβb can attract inflammatory mediators, which, in turn, generate NO free radicals. We have previously demonstrated that nicotine can scavenge free radicals in vitro system, and that nicotine can rescue the apoptosis of hippocampal neuron cells. The purpose of this work is to study the effect of nicotine on AD mediated by NO free radicals in a transgenic mice *** transgenic (c57/BL) mice overexpressing a mutant form of APP (APP717V→F) develop AD-like pathology in an age- and region-dependent manner. Our recent research found that *** can decrease the density of amyloid plaque and the aggregation of Aβ.2. Nicotine can decrease the expression of Transcription factor: C-Myc, NF-KB. EMSA experiment further demonstrate the activation of NF-κB and C-myc is clearly decreased. 3. Cell cycle related protein CyclinD1 and CDK4 are also affected. 4. As we expected, nNOS expression is apparently changed by nicotine. At the same time the production of NO was apparently decreased in different brain regions with ESR method. 5. Death substrate poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) is slightly decreased.

Embryogenesis is a long-standing field of interest for plant scientists. Despite great efforts, little is known about the regulation of these development processes at molecular level. Here, we describe the roles of a disrupted gene in the embryo homozygote lethal mutant. In this mutant line, the embryo development is arrested at the one-cell zygote stage. The zygote can elongate normally but cannot precede the next division concurrent with only 1-2 visible endosperm nucleus. Results from crossing with the PcycB::CycDb-GUS cell cycle marker line suggest that the cell cycle may be arrested at the M phase.

The variegated cotyledon (vco1) mutant of Arabidopsis thaliana ecotype Landsberg was generated by enhancer trap based on maize Activator/Dissociation transposable element system. vco1 is a cotyledon-specific variegated mutation with protuberant lumps on the surface of the cotyledons and with normal morphologic true leaves. Some albino plants died after the cotyledons expanded, but a few albino and variegated mutants grew normally to maturity and set seeds.
