Comparison of central corneal thickness measurements with three new optical devices and a standard ultrasonic pachymeter

AIM:To compare the RTVue spectral optical coherence tomography(SD-OCT),Sirius Scheimpflug-Placido topographer,Lenstar optical low coherence reflectometry(OLCR)and ultrasound pachymetry(USP)devices in terms of their agreement and repeatability of measuring central corneal thickness(CCT).METHODS:In this prospective study,50 eyes of 50patients were *** repeated measures were obtained using SD-OCT,Scheimpflug-Placido topographer and USP and five measurements were determined with the ***-Altman plots were used to assess agreement among the instruments,and 95%limits of agreement(LoA)for each comparison were ***-examiner repeatability was assessed using intraclass correlation coefficients(ICCs).RESULTS:The mean CCT by SD-OCT,ScheimpflugPlacido topographer,OLCR,and USP were 525.90±34.08μm,525.92±34.10μm,530.30±35.62μm,and543.50±37.11μm *** 4 modalities of CCT measurements correlated closely with each other,with Pearson correlation coefficients ranging from 0.977 *** mean differences(and upper/lower LoA)for CCT measurements were-0.05±6.77μm(13.3/-13.3)between SD-OCT and Scheimpflug-Placido topographer,4.38±3.79μm(11.8/-3.1)between OLCR and SD-OCT,4.38±6.03μm(16.2/-7.5)between OLCR and ScheimpflugPlacido topographer,13.20±6.46μm(25.9/0.5)between USP and OLCR,17.59±6.76μm(30.8/4.3)between USP and SD-OCT,and 17.58±8.13μm(33.5/1.6)between USP and Scheimpflug-Placido ***-examiner repeatability was excellent for all devices with ICCs>***:For most practical purposes,CCT measurements with the RTVue,Sirius and Lenstar can be used *** highly correlated,CCTmeasurement differences between USP and these 3optical instruments can be significant depending on the clinical situation.

Intense research and refinement of the tools used in performance-based seismic engineering have been made,but the maturity and accuracy of these methods have not been adequately confirmed with actual data from the field. The gap between the assumed characteristics of actual building systems and their idealized counterparts used for analysis is wide. When the randomly distributed flaws in buildings as they exist in urban areas and the extreme variability of ground motion patterns combine,the conventional procedures used for pushover or dynamic response history analyses seem to fall short of reconciling the differences between calculated and observed damage. For emergency planning and loss modeling purposes,such discrepancies are factors that must be borne in mind. Two relevant examples are provided herein. These examples demonstrate that consensus-based analytical guidelines also require well-idealized building models that do not lend themselves to reasonably manageable representations from field data. As a corollary,loss modeling techniques,e.g.,used for insurance purposes,must undergo further development and improvement.

Grain size and mineral composition of core sediments were used to investigate influences of various terrestrial and marine conditions,which have prevailed on the southwestern Black Sea shelf during the *** mud with small amounts of sand and gravel from nearby coastal hinterland is the principal sediment type,whereas sediments deposited near the shelf edge and the Istanbul Strait and off the Duru Lake(a paleo-river mouth)constitued large quantities of sand and gravel of both biogenic and terrigenic *** amounts of aragonite,1 nmmicas,quartz,feldspars,calcite and dolomite constitute the dominant non-clay minerals in bulk *** clay mineral assemblage in the〈2μm fraction is made up of smectite,illite,kaolinite and *** and calcite are mainly derived from benthic accumulations,whereas feldspars(mainly plagioclase)and smectite reflect magmaticvolcanic provenance and the distribution of 1 nm-micas and chlorite correlate with nearby metamorphic sources ***,grain size and mineral distribution generally indicate a combination of effects of wind and wave climate,longshore and offshore cyclonic currents,changing sea-level stands and nearby source rock and morphological *** is also suggested that at least part of clay minerals could be derived from the northwesterly Danube River input.

Objective:To investigate the clinical and epidemiological features and outcome of Chryseobacterium and Elizabethkingia *** in children,together with antimicrobial ***:This retrospective study was conducted at a tertiary pediatric hospital in *** patients infected with Chryseobacterium/Elizabethkingia *** those presenting to Ankara City Hospital between March 2014 and March 2022 were ***:A total of 49 cases were included and 29 cases were identified as *** median age was 14(0.2-185.0)*** majority(89.8%)of these patients had an underlying disease,including malignancy(42.9%).Bacteremia(46.9%)and central line-associated bloodstream infection(28.6%)were the most common *** thirty-day all-cause mortality rate was 12.2%.The most commonly used antibiotics were ciprofloxacin and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole(TMP-SMX).Forty-five(91.8%)isolates were susceptible to ciprofloxacin,44(91.6%)to TMP-SMX,and 21(87.5%)to ***:Chryseobacterium and Elizabethkingia *** emergent,nosocomial pathogens and the majority of cases were older than the neonatal *** were mainly seen in patients with long hospital stays,indwelling devices,and those who have received antibiotics within the last month,especially *** addition,they were associated with bloodstream infection and *** most commonly useful antibiotics according to the resistance patterns were ciprofloxacin and TMP-SMX.

The current status of marine poisonous fish species ranging in the Aegean Sea coastline in Turkey were *** is a peninsula surrounded by seas with different ecological features on three *** total length of shoreline is 8333 km including the *** total number of fish species in Turkish seas is 512,of which 449 live in the Aegean Sea followed by the Mediterranean Sea(441 species),the Marmara Sea(257 species)and the Black Sea(154species).On the Aegean Sea coasts,the richest sea regarding fish diversity,the number of poisonous fish species is also *** mini-review revealed 51 poisonous fish species belonging to 14 families in the Turkish Aegean *** the Aegean Sea coasts poisonous fish species can be categorized into three groups:(i)Fish that contain venomous spines on the tail or on the operculum(ii)Fish that carry poisonous bite and(iii)Fish having poisonous flesh or *** fish that contain venomous spines on the tail or on the operculum mostly are dangerous because of their poisonous thorns whereas the passive poisonous fish species poison when they are *** toxins can cause morbidity and rarely,mortality in *** from these,swallowing the blood of species such as European eel Anguilla anguilla and European conger Conger conger might also cause ***,as there has been an invasion of puffer fish especially on the Turkish Mediterranean and Aegean coasts in recent years,there is a danger in ***,it is very important to particularly draw attention to these fish on the Turkish coasts.

Objective:To determine the fecundity of Boops boops(***)from Aegean Sea coast of ***:A total of 470 specimens of *** were collected monthly from November in 2008 to October of 2009 in Izmir Bay(central Aegean Sea).Total length and total weight of each fish were measured and the maturity stages of gonads were *** 30 mature ovariums were taken to determine fecundity and oocysts were counted by using gravimetric ***:About 210 were females(44.7%)and 226 males(48.1%)while 34(7.2%)were hermafrodite in terms of sexuality with sex ratio(female:male)of 0.93:*** fecundity of the bogue was assessed by the gravimetric method with 30 ovaries from females between the total length of 19.6 and 27.6 cm[(mean:23.5±2.1)cm].Estimates of total fecundity varied between 33072 and 66123 oocytes(mean:49008±8826)and fecundity-total length,fecundity-weight relationships were expressed as:F=8207.6e^(0.075TL),F=30297e^(0.003TW)***:The results of the study will contribute to the reproductive biology of *** and will be useful for management of fisheries.

The aim of this study was to determine presence of Salmonella spp. in chicken meat samples collected from Ankara, Turkey and determine the susceptibility of the Salmonella isolates to some antimicrobial agents. For this purpose, 127 chicken samples were collected from local markets. Investigation of Salmonella was done according to horizontal method, the guidelines of the method recommended by International Standards Organization (ISO). Antimicrobial susceptibilities of Salmonella spp. was performed with microdilution method according to the guidelines of CLSI M100-S18. Ampicillin, gentamicin sulphate, ofloxacin, levofloxacin, ciprofloxacin, enrofloxacin, tetracycline, ceftriaxon, amoxicillin/clavulanic acid and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole were used in the study. Salmonella spp. was isolated from 5 (3.94%) of the 127 chicken meat samples. Although our findings are not within Turkish Food Codex (TFC) values, lower number of samples that involve Salmonella spp. indicates an improvement in the hygienic conditions in Turkey. Among 5 isolates, one isolate was sensitive to all antimicrobial agents tested. 2 isolates exhibited multidrug resistance. Successfully, all the isolates were sensitive to quinolones as a good result in spite of the reported reduced susceptibility from different regions of the world. However, this study should be improved with more chicken samples and Salmonella spp. isolate numbers to support these results.
