AIm:To evaluate the effects of tenofovir disoproxil fumarate(TDF)use during late pregnancy to reduce hepatitis B virus(HBV)transmission in highly viremic ***:This retrospective study included 45 pregnant patients with hepatitis B e antigen(+)chronic hepatitis B and HBV DNA levels>107copies/mL who received TDF 300 mg/d from week 18 to 27 of gestation(n=21).Untreated pregnant patients served as controls(n =24).All infants received 200 IU of hepatitis B immune globulin(HBIG)within 24 h postpartum and 20μg of recombinant HBV vaccine at 4,8,and 24 *** transmission rate was determined by hepatitis B surface antigen and HBV DNA results in infants at week ***:At week 28,none of the infants of TDFtreated mothers had immunoprophylaxis failure,whereas2(8.3%)of the infants of control mothers had immunoprophylaxis failure(P=0.022).There were no differences between the groups in terms of adverse events in mothers or congenital deformities,gestational age,height,or weight in *** postpartum week 28,significantly more TDF-treated mothers had levels of HBV DNAmL and normaliz.d alanine aminotransferase compared with controls(62%vs none,Pmester reduced perinatal transmission rates of HBV and no adverse events were observed in mothers or infants.

Biopsy of parotid masses:Review of current techniques

Definitive diagnosis of parotid gland masses is required optimal management planning and for prognosis. There is controversy over whether fine needle aspiration cytology(FNAC) or ultrasound guided core biopsy(USCB) should be the standard for obtaining a biopsy. The aim of this review is to assess the current evidence available to assess the benefits of each technique and also to assess the use of intra-operative froz.n section(IOFS). Literature searches were performed using pubmed and google scholar. The literature has been reviewed and the evidence is presented. FNAC is an accepted and widely used technique. It has been shown to have variable diagnostic capabilities depending on centres and experience of staff. USCB has a highly consistent diagnostic accuracy and can help with tumour grading and staging. However, the technique is more invasive and there is a question regarding potential for seeding. Furthermore, USCB is less likely to be offered as part of a one-stop clinic. IOFS has no role as a first line diagnostic technique but may be reserved as an adjunct or for lesions not amenable to percutaneous biopsy. On balance, USCB seems to be the method of choice. The current evidence suggests it has superior diagnostic potential and is safe. With time, USCB is likely to supplant FNAC as the biopsy technique of choice, replicating that which has occurred already in other areas of medicine such a breast practice.

Vegetative Compatibility and Virulence Diversity of Verticillium dahliae from Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus) Plantations in Turkey and Evaluation of Okra Landraces for Resistance to V. dahliae

Forty-four *** isolates were collected from symptomatic vascular tissues of okra plants each from a different field in eight provinces located in the eastern mediterranean and western Anatolia regions of Turkey during ***-nonutiliz.ng(nit)mutants of *** from okra were used to determine heterokaryosis and genetic relatedness among *** isolates from okra plants were grouped into two vegetative compatibility groups(VCGs)(1 and 2)and three subgroups as 1A(13.6%,6/44),2A(20.5%,9/44)and 2B(65.9%,29/44)according to international *** tests were performed on a susceptible local okra(***)landrace in greenhouse *** isolates from VCG1A and VCG2B induced defoliation(D)and partial defoliation(PD)symptoms,*** isolates from VCG2A gave rise to typical leaf chlorosis symptoms without *** obtained data showed that the virulence level of *** isolates from okra was related to their VCG *** okra landraces from diverse geographical origins were screened for resistance to VCG2B and VCG1A of *** results indicated that all landraces were more susceptible to highly virulent VCG1A-D pathotype displaying D or PD symptoms depending on their susceptibility levels with a mean disease severity index of 3.52 than to less virulent VCG2B-PD pathotype of *** displaying PD and ND symptoms with a mean disease severity index of *** differences were observed among the landraces;however,none of them exhibited a level of *** landraces;Çorum,Hatay Has and Sanlıurfa displayed the lowest level of susceptibility or little tolerance to both D and PD ***2B of PD was prevailing in the surveyed areas and VCG1A of D was the most virulent of the VCGs *** of resistant genotypes to Turkish okra germplasm from different sources and breeding new resistant okra cultivars are critical for the sustainability of okra production.

Bulk density of mineral and organic soils in the Canada’s arctic and sub-arctic

Bulk density is an indicator of soil compaction subject to anthropogenic impact,essential to the interpretation of any nutrient budgets,especially to perform carbon *** is so expensive to measure bulk density in arctic/sub-arctic and there are relatively very few field measurements are ***,to establish a bulk density and SOC empirical relationship in Canada’s arctic and sub-arctic ecosystems,compiled all the bulk density and SOC measurements that are available in Northern *** addition an attempt has been made for bulk density and SOC field measurement in Yellowknife and Lupin,to develop an empirical relationship for Canada’s arctic and *** between bulk density(BD)and soil organic carbon(SOC)for mineral soil and organic soils(0–100 cm depth)were described by exponential *** best fit model,predictive bulk density(BDp),for mineral soil,(BDp=0.701+0.952 exp(0.29 SOC),n=702,R2=0.99);for organic soil(BDp=0.074+2.632 exp(0.076 SOC),n=674,R2=0.93).Different soil horiz.ns have different bulk densities and may require different predictive equations,therefore,developed predictive best fit exponential equation for both mineral and organic soils together(BDp=0.071+1.322 exp(0.071 SOC),n=1376,R2=0.984),where X is a dummy variable with a value of 0 for surface peat(0–25 cm depth)and 1 for subsurface peat(25–175 cm).We recommend using the soil organic carbon density approach to estimate BD from SOC because it allows BD to be predicted without significant bias.

COVID-19 vaccination and associated factors in Turkish healthcare workers practicing chest medicine

Objective: To evaluate the COVID-19 vaccination status and related characteristics of Turkish healthcare workers practicing chest ***: A cross-sectional online survey was conducted among the Turkish Thoracic Society members. The survey was started on may 17, 2021, and kept open for seven weeks. The 39-item survey included the COVID-19 vaccination status and demographic, clinical, and occupational characteristics. Results: Of 378 healthcare workers participated in the survey, 354(93.7%) reported receiving at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. A total of 323(91.2%) healthcare workers received CoronaVac vs. BioNTech/Pfiz.r in 31(8.8%). In the CoronaVac group, 77(23.8%) contracted COVID-19 when not fully vaccinated, and 13(4.0%) when fully vaccinated;however, 16(51.6%) healthcare workers in the BioNTech/Pfiz.r group got COVID-19 when not fully vaccinated, but any fully vaccinated participants did not contract COVID-19(P=0.003). Regarding vaccine dosing, 328(86.8%) were fully vaccinated, while 50(13.2%) were not. multiple regression analysis for being a non-fully vaccinated healthcare worker demonstrated a significant relationship with having any SARS-CoV-2 infection history(adjusted OR 9.57, 95% CI 3.93-23.26, Prker(adjusted OR 5.86, 95% CI 2.11-16.26, P=0.001), but a significant negative relationship with full-time working at the time of survey(adjusted OR 0.13, 95% CI 0.03-0.56, P=0.006). Conclusions: Although a majority of healthcare workers were fully vaccinated, occupational and non-occupational characteristics were related to being non-fully vaccinated. Active surveillance regarding the COVID-19 vaccination in healthcare workers is necessary to address specific parameters as barriers to vaccination.

Potential neoplastic effects of parathion-methyl on rat liver

The mutagenic and carcinogenic effects of parathion-methyl were examined by bacterial reverse mutation assay and a long-term experiment with wistar rats. The potential mutagenic effect of parathion-methyl in Salmonella typhimurium TA100 bacterial cells was observed without rat liver S9 metabolic activation. Parathion-methyl was further investigated for pathological changes in rat pancreas and liver. The long-term rat experiments showed that parathion-methyl exposure for 3 months can cause pathological changes in rat pancreases acinar cells and pancreatic hepatocytes. Atypical acinar cell focuses （AACF） were determined in the liver and pancreas of the rats. The results from short-term Ames test and long-term rat experiments suggested that parathion-methyl would be potential carcinogenic.

The electronic structures of Ni-Ti shape-memory alloy samples were investigated by X-ray absorption fine structure （XAFS） spectroscopy both experimentally and theoretically. In the experimental section, the samples were measured at low temperature to determine the persistent traces of both preheating process and atomic concentration effects on the crystal and electronic structure by X-ray absorption near-edge structure （XANES） spectroscopy. As a second step, the extended-X-ray absorption fine structure （EXAFS） calculations, which are based on different choices of one electron potentials according to Ti coordinations by using the real space multiple scattering method FEFF 8.2 code, were performed. The crystallographic and electronic structures of the porous Ni-Ti alloys were tested at various temperatures ranging from 5 to 1323 K.
