Two-dimensional （2D） nanomaterials have gained tremendous attention in the field of biomedicine because of their high specific surface areas and fascinating physicochemical properties. Herein, 2D monolayered double hydroxide （MLDH） nanosheets were employed to localize doxorubicin （DOX）, an anticancer drug, with a loading capacity of as high as 3.6 ***-1 （w/w）. Structural characterizations and theoretical calculations indicate that the DOX molecule is uniformly arranged and oriented at the surface of the MLDHs with a binding energy of 15.90 eV, showing significant electrostatic interaction. With the assistance of the targeting agent folic acid （FA）, DOX-FA/MLDHs demonstrate targeted cellular uptake and superior anticancer behavior based on in vitro tests performed with cancer cells. In addition, this composite material exhibits a selective release toward cancer cells and good biocompatibility with normal cells, which would guarantee its practical applications in cancer therapy.

In this work, the previously developed coarse-grained （Cg） particle models for biomembranes and red blood cells （RBCs） are reviewed, and the advantages of the Cg particle methods over the continuum and atomistic simulations for modeling biological phenomena are discussed. Cg particle models can largely increase the length scale and time scale of atomistic simulations by eliminating the fast degrees of freedom while preserving the mesoscopic structures and properties of the simulated system. Moreover, Cg particle models can be used to capture the microstructural alternations in diseased RBCs and simulate the topological changes of biomembranes and RBCs, which are the major challenges to the typical continuum representations of membranes and RBCs. The power and versatility of Cg particle methods are demonstrated：through simulating the dynamical processes mvolving significant topological .changes e.g. lipid self-assembly vesicle fusion and membrane budding.

This study discusses the welding properties for the components of an aluminum-alloy ultra-high vacuum chamber and beam position monitor （BPM）.The welding parameters include the modes of laser output （pulsed wave and continuous wave）,welding speed,shield gas flow,welding bead structure,and focusing *** results showed that the welding defect rate of the pulsed wave type was larger than that of the continuous wave *** crack in the welding bead reduced with decreasing welding *** fusion penetration of the welding bead was higher when the focusing distance was long enough to deepen into the welding *** morphology during the experimental process revealed the proper flow of shield *** adaptability design of the welding bead structure in the preceding processes had more effect on overall welding structure and morphology.

It is essential to predict the scour depth around bridge piers for hydraulic engineers involved in the economical design of bridge pier foundation. Conventional investigations have long been of the opinion that empirical scour prediction equations based on laboratory data over predict scour depths. In this article, the Back-Propagation Neural Network （BPN） was applied to predict the scour depth in order to overcome the problem of exclusive and the nonlinear relationships. The observations obtained from thirteen states in USA was verified by the present model. From the comparison with conventional experimental methods, it can be found that the scour depth around bridge piers can be efficiently predicted using the BPN.

One-dimensional inorganic nanotubes hold promise for technological applications due to their distinct physical/chemical properties,but so far advancements have been hampered by difficulties in producing single-wall nanotubes with a well-defined *** this work we investigate,based on Density Functional Theory(DFT),the formation mechanism of 135 different inorganic nanotubes formed by the intrinsic self-rolling driving force found in asymmetric 2D Janus *** show that for isovalent Janus sheets,the lattice mismatch between inner and outer atomic layers is the driving force behind the nanotube formation,while in the non-isovalent case it is governed by the difference in chemical bond strength of the inner and outer layer leading to steric *** our pool of candidate structures we have identified more than 100 tubes with a preferred radius below 35Å,which we hypothesize can display distinctive properties compared to their parent 2D *** descriptors have been identified to accelerate the discovery of small-radius tubes and a Bayesian regression approach has been implemented to assess the uncertainty in our predictions on the radius.

Text characters embedded in images represent a rich source of information for content-based indexing and retrieval applications. However, these text characters are difficult to be detected and recognized due to their various sizes, grayscale values, and complex backgrounds. Existing methods cannot handle well those texts with different contrast or embedded in a complex image background. In this paper, a set of sequential algorithms for text extraction and enhancement of image using cellular automata are proposed. The image enhancement includes gray level, contrast manipulation, edge detection, and filtering. First, it applies edge detection and uses a threshold to filter out for low-contrast text and simplify complex background of high-contrast text from binary image. The proposed algorithm is simple and easy to use and requires only a sample texture binary image as an input. It generates textures with perceived quality, better than those proposed by earlier published techniques. The performance of our method is demonstrated by presenting experimental results for a set of text based binary images. The quality of thresholding is assessed using the precision and recall analysis of the resultant text in the binary image.

Infiltrative xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis mimicking aggressive gallbladder carcinoma: A diagnostic and therapeutic dilemma

Xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis(XgC) is an uncommon variant of chronic cholecystitis. The perioperative findings in aggressive cases may be indistinguishable from those of gallbladder or biliary tract carcinomas. Three patients presented mass lesions that infiltrated the hepatic hilum,provoked biliary dilatation and jaundice,and were indicative of malignancy. Surgical excision was performed following oncological principles and included extirpation of the gallbladder,extrahepatic bile duct,and hilar lymph nodes,as well as partial hepatectomy. Postoperative morbidity was minimal. Surgical pathology demonstrated XgC and absence of malignancy in all three cases. All three patients are alive and well after years of follow-up. XgC may have such an aggressive presentation that carcinoma may only be ruled out on surgical pathology. In such cases,the best option may be radical resection following oncological principles performed by expert surgeons,in order that postoperative complications may be minimized if not avoided altogether.

Evaluation of the diagnostic performance of a commercial molecular assay for the screening of suspected monkeypox cases in Sri Lanka

Background:The main objective of the present study was to compare the diagnostic performance of the commercial LightMix Modular Monkeypox Virus(MPXV)qPCR(TIB Molbiol,germany)assay with the in-house non-variola orthopox/monkeypox generic real-time PCR assay(ICMR-NIV,Pune)for the screening of(MPXV)cases at Medical Research Institute(MRI)in Sri ***,clinical and sociodemographic data of suspected/confirmed cases received at MRI for the MPXV screening were also ***:The diagnostic performance of the commercial LightMix Modular MPXV qPCR assay with the in-house nonvariola orthopox/monkeypox generic real-time PCR assay for the screening of suspected MXPV cases was evaluated using standard methods with minor ***-demographic and clinical profiles of suspected and confirmed MPXV cases were also ***:The commercial LightMix Modular MPXV assay was able to detect MPXV with 100%sensitivity and specificity with non-variola orthopox/monkeypox generic rtPCR *** the period of study,from the total of 25 samples tested,only 2 were MPXV-positive(males).The most common symptoms of suspected MPXV cases were lesions or rashes(92%).Conclusions:With the continually increasing number of cases,access to MPXV testing should be made more widely *** commercial LightMix Modular MPXV(TIB Molbiol)qPCR assay offers comparable performance to the non-variola orthopox/monkeypox generic real time PCR assay for MPXV detection during the present outbreak.

Currently,in the automotive industry,joining of the aluminum alloys with the steel is a crucial problem to be *** joining techniques including resistance spot and gas metal arc welding are not acceptable for those applications due to a number of metallurgical *** investigation was carried out to develop the hybrid joining process combining the resistance spot welding and *** this study,an attempt was made to apply hybrid process to the joining of dissimilar sheet metals,Al-Mg-Si（6000 series） alloy and low carbon steel *** process（resistance spot weld/brazing） using filler metal was found to be effective to overcome the incompatibility between aluminum alloy and *** hybrid joining process of Al alloy sheet and steel sheet did not produce acceptable bond strength,it was proved to have reasonable interfacial bond layer if the optimal process condition was applied.
