Cave-adapted animals provide a unique opportunity to study the evolutionary mechanisms underlying phenotypic,metabolic,behavioral,and genetic evolution in response to cave *** Mexican tetra(Astyanax mexicanus)is considered a unique model system as it shows both surface and cave-dwelling *** date,at least 33 different cave populations have been identified,with phylogenetic studies suggesting an origin from at least two independent surface lineages,thereby providing a unique opportunity to study parallel *** the present study,we carried out the most exhaustive phylogeographic study of *** to date,including cave and surface localities,using two mitochondrial markers(cytochrome b(cyt b)and cytochrome c oxidase subunit I(COI))and nuclear rhodopsin visual pigment(rho).Additionally,we inferred the molecular evolution of rho within the two contrasting environments(cave and surface)and across three geographic regions(Sierra de El Abra,Sierra de Guatemala,and Micos).In total,267 individuals were sequenced for the two mitochondrial fragments and 268 individuals were sequenced for the rho visual pigment from 22 cave and 46 surface *** results based on the mitochondrial data supported the two-lineage hypothesis,except for the Pachón and Chica caves,whose introgression has been largely *** Sierra de El Abra region depicted the largest genetic diversity,followed by the Sierra de Guatemala *** the phylogeographic patterns of rho,we recovered exclusive haplogroups for the Sierra de El Abra(Haplogroup I)and Sierra de Guatemala regions(Haplogroup IV).Moreover,a 544 bp deletion in the rho gene was observed in the Escondido cave population from Sierra de Guatemala,reducing the protein from seven to three intramembrane *** change may produce a loss-of-function(LOF)but requires further *** nonsynonymous(dN)and synonymous(dS)substitution rates(omega valuesω),our results revealed

Mandibular advancement devices(MADs)are one of the treatments used for Obstructive sleep apnea(OSA).MADs try to maintain the mandible in an advanced position to keep the upper airways open when *** achieve this goal,most current MADs limit the mouth opening to a few *** study of the kinematic behaviour of the patient’s jaw is essential in order to design devices that allow greater aperture *** this purpose,a 3D multibody model that reproduces jaw movement has been developed in this *** this end,the movement of the lower incisor has been determined by means of a vision system and reflective *** addition,the kinematics of the temporomandibular joint has been ***,the device is designed and printed using a cam-follower *** way,the cam profiles and the followers are optimally designed and positioned for each patient depending on the physiognomy of the jaw and the opening and advancing movement prescribed by the specialist.

Synthesis and characterization of carbon-TiO2-CeO2 composites and their applications in phenol degradation

The objective of this work was to synthesize particles of titanium oxide and cerium oxide supported on carbon, which was obtained through the pyrolysis of orange peel. The materials were characterized using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopy, and the specific surface area from Brunauer-Emmett-Teller method. The photocatalytic properties of the synthesized materials were determined by the degradation of phenol in 30 mg/L aqueous solutions. TiO2-CeO2 particles were obtained with an average spherical size of 57 nm and were supported on the carbon surface; this material presented a specific surface area of 296 m2/g and degrades -40% of phenol after 240 min of UV irradiation.

ackground:The gradual ageing of the population,and its effect on public spending,constitutes an urgent challenge for advanced *** this study,we analyse the effect of older people,and their health and individual characteristics,on public health ***:Using logistic regression methods,we have analysed the use of different health services and health technologies by older people in Spain,controlled for several health,socioeconomic,and other individual ***:The main factors that explain the consumption of both health services and health technology,above age,are related to the so-called need factors:self-reported health status,presence of chronic diseases,and ***:Knowing the main factors that imply greater public health spending is a topic of special interest for designing efficient health policies,in a context of growth in public health *** this way,preventive attention on the so-called need factors may be an important driver to improve the effectiveness of spending.

Molecular Determinants of Antibiotic Resistance in the Costa Rican Pseudomonas aeruginosa AG1 by a Multi-omics Approach:A Review of 10 Years of Study

Pseudomonas aeruginosa AG1(PaeAG1)is a Costa Rican strain that was isolated in 2010 in a major *** strain has resistance to multiple antibiotics such asβ-lactams(including carbapenems),aminoglycosides,and ***1 is considered critical(Priority 1)due to its resistance to carbapenems,and it was the first report of a *** isolate carrying both VIM-2 and IMP-18 genes encoding for metallo-β-lactamases(MBL)enzymes(both with carbapenemase activity).Owing to these traits,we have studied this model for 10 years using diverse approaches including *** this review,we summarize the main points of the different steps that we have studied in PaeAG1:preliminary analyses of this strain at the genomic and phenomic levels revealed that this microorganism has particular features of antibiotic *** the multi-omics approach,the genome assembly was the initial step to identify the genomic determinants of this strain,includ-ing virulence factors,antibiotic resistance genes,as well as a complex accessory ***,a comparative genomic approach was implemented to define and update the phylogenetic relationship among complete *** genomes,the genomic island content in other strains,and the architecture of the two MBL-carrying ***,the proteomic profile of PaeAG1 was studied after exposure to antibiotics using 2-dimensional gel electrophoresis(2D-GE).Fourth,to study the central response to multiple perturbations in ***,i.e.,the core perturbome,a machine learning approach was *** analysis revealed biological functions and determinants that are shared by different ***,to evaluate the effects of ciprofloxacin(CIP)on PaeAG1,a growth curve comparison,differential expression analysis(RNA-Seq),and network analysis were *** the results of the core perturbome(pathways that also were found in this perturbation with CIP),it was possible to identify the“exclusive”response and determina

Hepatitis B and D viruses replication interference: Influence of hepatitis B genotype

AIM: To study the hepatitis B virus(HBV) and hepatitis D virus(HDV) replication interferences in patients with chronic hepatitis delta infected with different HBV ***: We conducted a transversal study including 68 chronic hepatitis delta(CHD)(37 HIVpositive) patients and a control group of 49 chronic hepatitis B(CHB)(22 HIV-positive) patients. In addition, a dynamic follow-up was performed in 16 CHD patients. In all the samples, the surface antigen of hepatitis B(HBs Ag) serum titers were analyzed with the Monolisa HBs Ag Ultra system(Bio-Rad), using as quantification standard a serial dilution curve of an international HBs Ag standard. Serum HBV-DNA titers were analyzed using the Roche Cobas Taq Man(Roche, Barcelona, Spain), and the serum HDV-RNA using an in-house real-time q RT-PCR method, with Taq Man probes. HBV genotype was determined with the line immunoassay Li PA HBV genotyping system(Innogenetics, Ghent, Belgium). In those patients negative for Li PA assay, a nested PCR method of complete HBs Ag coding region, followed by sequence analysis was ***: No differences in the HBV-DNA levels were found in CHB patients infected with different HBV genotypes. However, in CHD patients the HBV-DNA levels were lower in those infected with HBV-A than in those with HBV-D, both in HIV negative [median(IQR): 1.25(1.00-1.35) vs 2.95(2.07-3.93) log10(copies/m L), P = 0.013] and HIV positive patients [2.63(1.24-2.69) vs 7.25(4.61-7.55) log10(copies/m L), P < 0.001]. This was confirmed in the dynamic study of the HBV/HDV patients. These differences induce an under-estimation of HBV-A incidence in patients with CHD analyzed with Li PA assay. Finally, the HBs Ag titers reflected no significant differences in CHD patients infected with HBV-A or ***: Viral replication interference between HBV and HDV is HBV-genotype dependent, and more evident in patients infected with HBV-genotype A, than with HBV-D or E.

A novel semantic segmentation approach based on U-Net,WU-Net,and U-Net++deep learning for predicting areas sensitive to pluvial flood at tropical area

Floods remain one of the most devastating weather-induced disastersworldwide, resulting in numerous fatalities each year and severelyimpacting socio-economic development and the ***, the ability to predict flood-prone areas in advance is crucialfor effective risk management. The objective of this research is to assessand compare three convolutional neural networks, U-Net, WU-Net, andU-Net++, for spatial prediction of pluvial flood with a case study at atropical area in the north of Vietnam. They are relative new convolutionalgorithms developed based on U-shaped architectures. For this task, ageospatial database with 796 historical flood locations and 12 floodindicators was prepared. For training the models, the binary crossentropywas employed as the loss function, while the Adaptive momentestimation (ADAM) algorithm was used for the optimization of themodel parameters, whereas, F1-score and classification accuracy (Acc)were used to assess the performance of the models. The results unequivocally highlight the high performance of the three models,achieving an impressive accuracy rate of 96.01%. The flood susceptibility maps derived from this research possess considerable utility for local authorities, providing valuable insights and informationto enhance decision-making processes and facilitate the implementation of effective risk management strategies.

Measurement and analysis of soil nitrogen and organic matter content using near-infrared spectroscopy techniques

Near infrared reflectance （N1R） spectroscopy is as a rapid, convenient and simple nondestructive technique useful for quantifying several soil properties. This method was used to estimate nitrogen （N） and organic matter （OM） content in a soil of Zhejiang Province, Hangzhou County. A total of 125 soil samples were taken from the field. Ninety-five samples spectra were used during the calibration and cross validation stage. Thirty samples spectra were used to predict N and OM concentration. NIR spectra of these samples were correlated using partial least square regression. The regression coefficients between measured and predicted values of N and OM was 0.92 and 0.93, and SEP （standard error of prediction） were 3.28 and 0.06, respectively, which showed that NIR method had potential to accurately predict these constituents in this soil. The results showed that NIR spectroscopy could be a good tool for precision farming application.

The society in the digital transformation era demands new decision schemes such as e-democracy or based on social *** novel decision schemes require the participation of many experts/decision makers/stakeholders in the decision *** a result,large-scale group decision making(LSGDM)has attracted the attention of many researchers in the last decade and many studies have been conducted in order to face the challenges associated with the ***,this paper aims at reviewing the most relevant studies about LSGDM,identifying the most profitable research trends and analyzing them from a critical point of *** do so,the Web of Science database has been consulted by using different *** these results a total of 241 contributions were found and a selection process regarding language,type of contribution and actual relation with the studied topic was then carried *** 87 contributions finally selected for this review have been analyzed from four points of view that have been highly remarked in the topic,such as the preference structure in which decision-makers’opinions are modeled,the group decision rules used to define the decision making process,the techniques applied to verify the quality of these models and their applications to real world problems ***,a critical analysis of the main limitations of the existing proposals is ***,taking into account these limitations,new research lines for LSGDM are proposed and the main challenges are stressed out.
