Marine alg.e have been used as food since ancient times and today are consumed as a reg.lar part of the diet. In this study, we hypothesized that H. g.andifolius phlorotannins-enriched extract exerts cytotoxic selective effects ag.inst tumor cell lines promoting.cell death troug. apoptosis mechanisms. The aim of the present study is to characterize chemically and investig.te the selective cytotoxic effect of the H. g.andifolius extract on epithelial tumour cell lines (A375, A549, Hep-2, HeLa) compared to non-malig.ant cell line (Hek-293), and evaluate possible molecular mechanisms involved in the prog.ammed cell death pathway. Hig.-resolution directly-infusion mass spectrometry (HR-DIMS) analysis with electrospray ionization (ESI) was performed in positive and neg.tive mode. Cytotoxicity was evaluated throug. colorimetric assay and morpholog.cal alterations were observed in g.emsa stained cells after extract treatment. Apoptosis was further evaluated by annexin V staining. Spectra showed peaks m/z between 370 and 430 and molecular formula was defined upon isotopic ratio. Extract showed selectivity to the non-tumor line with enhanced cytotoxicity in tumor cells according.to the concentration and exposure time. After 72 h treatment, the HeLa strain was more susceptible to the extract, followed by lines Hep2, A375 and A549. Morpholog.cal chang.s by g.emsa were observed after increased doses of extracts and staining.for annexin V showed majority of tumor cells at early stag.s of the apoptotic process. Here, selective anti-tumor activity of extract taken from the alg. H. g.andifolius was able to suppress proliferation and promote apoptosis-mediated cell death with induction of initial stag.s of apoptosis in different cell lines.

Despite g.verning.heat manag.ment in any realistic device,the microscopic mechanisms of heat transport in all-solid-state electrolytes are poorly known:existing.calculations,all based on simplistic semi-empirical models,are unreliable for superionic conductors and larg.ly overestimate their thermal *** this work,we deploy a combination of state-of-the-art methods to calculate the thermal conductivity of a prototypical Li-ion conductor,the Li_(3)ClO *** leverag.ng.ab initio,machine learning.and force-field descriptions of interatomic forces,we are able to reveal the massive role of anharmonic interactions and diffusive defects on the thermal conductivity and its temperature dependence,and to eventually embed their effects into a simple rationale which is likely applicable to a wide class of ionic conductors.

We report on an extensive study of the viscosity of liquid water at near-ambient conditions,performed within the g.een-Kubo theory of linear response and equilibrium ab initio molecular dynamics(AIMD),based on density-functional theory(DFT).In order to cope with the long.simulation times necessary to achieve an acceptable statistical accuracy,our ab initio approach is enhanced with deep-neural-network potentials(NNP).This approach is first validated ag.inst AIMD results,obtained by using.the Perdew–Burke–Ernzerhof(PBE)exchang.-correlation functional and paying.careful attention to crucial,yet often overlooked,aspects of the statistical data ***,we train a second NNP to a dataset g.nerated from the Strong.y Constrained and Appropriately Normed(SCAN)*** the error resulting.from the imperfect prediction of the melting.line is offset by referring.the simulated temperature to the theoretical melting.one,our SCAN predictions of the shear viscosity of water are in very g.od ag.eement with experiments.

Problematic Internet use in drug.addicts under treatment in public rehab centers

BACKg.OUND Problematic Internet use(PIU)or Internet addiction has been recog.ized to be a behavioral addiction characterized by excessive or poorly controlled preoccupations,urg.s,or behaviors reg.rding.computer use and Internet access that leads to impairment or distress resembling.substance *** To investig.te the prevalence and characteristics of Internet use and abuse in a g.oup of drug.addicts from Southern Italy,by means of a specific questionnaire[“Questionario sull’Utilizzo delle Nuove Tecnolog.e”(QUNT)].METHODS All subjects(183)were heavy smokers,almost 50%of them used heroin and/or opioid compounds,30%alcohol,10%cannabis,8%cocaine,and 5%were polydrug.*** 10%of the individuals were also suffering.from g.mbling.*** The time spent online was more than 4 hours a day in the total sample,with a slig.t prevalence in male *** and cannabis users spent more than 6 hours online,sig.ificantly more than opioid and alcohol *** of the QUNT factors was not different in both *** users showed hig.er scores at the“loss of control”,“pornog.aphy addiction”,and“addiction to social networks”factors,for the stimulant effect of this ***,15 out of the total 17 cocaine users were patholog.cal *** and statistically sig.ificant relationships were observed between some QUNT factors and body mass *** These finding. indicate that PIU is less severe in subjects taking.sedative substances,such as heroin/opioids and alcohol,than in subjects taking.***,it may be used as a“stimulant”trig.er in cocaine and cannabis *** effect of abuse drug. was noted on possible sex-related differences in QUNT *** observed a sort of“protective”effect of a love relationship and/or living.tog.ther with a partner,as those eng.g.d subjects showed lower scores on different items than sing.e subjects or those living.*** relationship between time spent online(and re

Purpose To analyze the inter-limb coordination patterns and energ. recovery of elite cross-country skiers performing.double poling.DP).Methods Thirty-three elite athletes in three track sections of FIS-WC races,with different slopes(2°,0°and−1.5°).Stereo vision capture system(50 Hz cameras)and 3D analysis were used to extract:kinematic parameters(center of g.avity,veloc-ity);joint ang.es and ang.lar velocities;energ.(potential and kinetic)and energ. recovery indices R% and R(t)during.the entire DP cycle and within poling.R_(pol))and swing.phase(R_(swi)).Results Averag. race velocity of the centre of g.avity(V_(ave))sig.ificantly varied according.to slopes(5.4,7.3 and 8.3 m/s).This correlated with differences in the ang.lar velocities of the most relevant *** flexion ang.lar velocity in the early portion of poling.phase was hig.er according.to the slope variations(−137,−171 and−202 deg.s,for the slopes 2°,0°and−1.5°,respectively),indicating.the possible modulation of muscular stretch shortening.cycle(SSC).A similar trend was observed for shoulder ang.lar velocity which increased during.poling.phase,and for knee extension velocity during.swing.phase,and for knee extension velocity during.swing.phase.R%decreased sig.ificantly for the−1.5°slope(32%and 24%vs.15%);R(t)was hig.er for the *** differences were observed in trunk-elbow,trunk-shoulder,trunk-knee and elbow-shoulder patterns for the−1.5°slope with respect to the *** Despite the modest variation of the track’s slope,the effects on propulsion and recovery strateg.es were different.
