Allocosa brasiliensis is a sand-dwelling wolf spider considered a good bioindicator to evaluate the quality of coastal dune ecosystems from Uruguay. Habitat fragmentation and human activities have impacted and reduced the Southern Uruguayan coast during the last decades. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the density, surface activity and habitat preference of A. brasiliensis in beaches with different human impact. For that purpose, we sampled during the night with head lamps and applied the capture-mark-recapture method. Females were more abundant than males and were the most recaptured sex. The most fragmented beaches showed lower number of burrows and individuals, especially in immatures stages. We found that the most suitable sandy habitat for A. brasiliensis should present a vegetation cover optimum of 25% - 50% of the surface. This study could provide tools for the implementation of future management conservation plans of the Southern Uruguayan coastline.

Exogenous melatonin(MT)was found to be an interesting tool for enhancing the resistance of rice to ***(Xoo)-caused bacterial blight(BB).However,the accurate comparison of the expression levels across samples was a challenging *** this work,the stability of 10 common used housekeeping genes under Xoo-infection and MT supplementation in rice was analyzed using quantitative real-time PCR(qRT-PCR),and algorithms geNorm,NormFinder and *** results indicated that most reference genes remained stable in Xoo-infected rice plants,while a number of reference genes were affected by MT *** all studied genes,the transcript levels of 18S(18S ribosomal RNA)and UBC(Ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme E2)remained unaltered by Xoo infection,while UBC and UBQ5(Ubiquitin 5)were the most stable genes when examining simultaneous Xoo-infection and MT supplementation,demonstrating that UBC is a suitable reference gene for qRT-PCR data normalization in rice under Xoo-infection and MT supplementation.

Efficacy and safety of XEN 45 gel stent alone or in combination with phacoemulsification in advanced open angle glaucoma patients: 1-year retrospective study

AIM:To assess the effectiveness of the XEN 45 gel stent,either alone or combined with cataract surgery,in advanced stage open angle glaucoma(OAG)***:Retrospective and single-center study conducted on consecutive OAG patients who underwent a XEN 45 gel stent implantation surgery,between July 2017 and September *** primary efficacy end-point was the mean intraocular pressure(IOP)reduction at the end of the follow-up *** was defined as an IOP reduction of at least 20%and an IOP value≤18 mm Hg without(complete)or with(qualified)hypotensive ***:Seventy-four patients(80 eyes)were included in the *** the overall study sample,XEN implant significantly reduced IOP from 21.0(19.8 to 22.1)mm Hg at baseline to 9.3(8.2 to 10.4),10.7(9.6 to 11.9),13.4(12.2 to 14.7),14.5(13.6 to 15.4),14.7(13.8 to 15.6),and 14.7(13.9 to 15.4)mm Hg at 1 d,1 wk,1,3,6,and 12 mo of follow-up,respectively(P<0.0001 each).In the overall study population,at the end of the study the mean IOP reduction was 27.4%(23.3%to 31.5%).Adjusted IOP reduction was similar in XEN and XEN+phacoemulsification groups[30.0(23.4 to 36.4)mm Hg vs 24.8(18.4 to 31.2)mm Hg,respectively,P=0.2939].At the last follow-up visit,52(65.0%)eyes were considered success,29(36.3%)eyes as complete success and 23(28.7%)as qualified *** number of hypotensive medications was significantly reduced from 2.8(2.7 to 3.0)at baseline to 1.1(0.8 to 1.3),P<***-Meier survival analysis did not find any difference in the success rate between XEN and XEN+PHACO,mean hazard ratio 0.56,95%CI 0.26 to 1.23;P=*** was performed in 7(8.8%)eyes at months 1(n=3);3(n=2);4(n=1)and 11(n=1).Eleven(13.8%)eyes presented adverse ***:XEN implant,either alone or in combination with phacoemulsification,significantly reduced the IOP and the number of hypotensive medications in patients with OAG in advanced stage.

Primary sclerosing cholangitis(PSC) is a rare disease of stricturing and destruction of the biliary tree with a complex genetic and environmental *** patients have co-occurring inflammatory bowel disease. Children generally present with uncomplicated disease, but undergo a variable progression to endstage liver disease. Within ten years of diagnosis, 50% of children will develop clinical complications including 30% requiring liver *** is a rare but serious complication affecting 1% of *** acid and oral vancomycin therapy used widely in children as medical therapy, and may be effective in a subset of patients. Gamma glutamyltransferase is a potential surrogate endpoint for disease activity, with improved survival in patients who achieve a normal value. Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography is a necessary adjunct to medical therapy to evaluate mass lesions or dominant strictures for malignancy, and also to relieve biliary obstruction. Liver transplantation remains the only option for patients who progress to end-stage liver disease. We review special considerations for patients before and after transplant, and in patients with inflammatory bowel disease. There is presently no published treatment algorithm or guideline for the management of children with PSC. We review the evidence for drug efficacy, dosing, duration of therapy, and treatment targets in PSC, and provide a framework for endoscopic and medical management of this complex problem.

The electrocatalytic activity for oxygen reduction reaction （ORR） at neutral pH of citrate-capped silver nanoparticles （diameter = 18 nm） supported on glassy carbon （GC） is investigated voltammetrically. Novelly, the modification of the substrate by nanoparticles sticking to form a random nanoparticle array and the voltammetric experiments are carried out simultaneously by immersion of the GC electrode in an air-saturated 0.1 M NaC104 solution （pH = 5.8） containing chemically-synthesized nanoparticles. The experimental voltammograms of the resulting nanoparticle array are simulated with homemade programs according to the two-proton, two-electron reduction of oxygen to hydrogen peroxide where the first electron transfer is rate determining. In the case of silver electrodes, the hydrogen peroxide generated is partially further reduced to water via heterogeneous decomposition. Comparison of the results obtained on a silver macroelectrode and silver nanoparticles indicates that, for the silver nanoparticles and particle coverages （0.035%-0.457%） employed in this study, the ORR electrode kinetics is slower and the production of hydrogen peroxide larger on the glassy carbon-supported nanoparticles than on bulk silver.

Hereditary Pancreatitis(HP)has emerged as a significant cause of acute,acute recurrent and chronic pancreatitis in the pediatric *** that it presents similarly to other causes of pancreatitis,a positive family history and/or isolation of a gene mutation are vital in its *** patterns remain complex,but mutations involving the PRSS1,SPINK1,CFTR and CTRC genes are commonly *** being first described in 1952,dozens of genetic alterations that modify the action of pancreatic enzymes have been *** children,these variants have been isolated in more than 50%of patients with chronic *** research has noted that such mutations in PRSS1,SPINK1 and CFTR genes are also associated with a faster progression from acute pancreatitis to chronic *** with HP are at increased risk of developing diabetes mellitus,exocrine pancreatic insufficiency,and pancreatic *** follows a multi-disciplinary approach with avoidance of triggers,surveillance of associated conditions,treatment of pancreatic insufficiency and use of endoscopic and surgical interventions for *** significant sequela,morbidity and a progressive nature,a thorough understanding of the etiology,pathophysiologic mechanisms,diagnostic evaluation,current management strategies and future research considerations for this evolving disease entity in pediatrics is warranted.

The aim of this study is to analyze the difficulties of reading and writing experienced by primary school pupils when writing a script for a theatrical performance called ＂digestion＂. Our main research questions are： how does a theatrical performance help to reconsider the scripts and to build a model of the digestive system？ The pupils were encouraged to stage a theatrical performance for the whole school, explaining the digestion of a sandwich, a glass of water, an apple and a piece of chewing gum. The play helped to develop not only knowledge but also language. Having to produce a text for two different audiences, teachers and other learners led the students to debate between using ＂academic＂ vocabulary or more everyday vocabulary. Overall we found that they were more concerned with writing ＂academic＂ scripts, influenced by the texts that they consulted, than with writing a play accessible to all audiences.

唾液酸糖苷类化合物是重要的生物信息传递分子,细胞表面糖蛋白和糖脂的唾液酸化修饰在许多生物过程中发挥着至关重要的作用,目前唾液酸糖苷类化合物的合成方法主要有化学合成法,化学-酶法合成法以及天然产物提取法等。使用化学合成和天然提取法产物收率效益较低并且会造成较大的污染,因此本论文旨在完善全酶法合成唾液酸糖苷类化合物的途径。在全酶法合成唾液酸糖苷类化合物的通路中,有关N-乙酰葡萄糖胺的N-乙酰基转移反应的研究报道很少,由于该过程需利用羟基作为保护基团且反应所需条件极为苛刻,一直以来都是相关研究的难点。本论文以本实验室从Cyclobacteriummarinum中发现并克隆表达得到的CmCBDA脱乙酰基酶为关键工具酶,完成了葡萄糖胺和N-乙酰葡萄糖胺在37℃无保护基团的条件下的N-乙酰化和N-转乙酰化反应。实验首次以N-乙酰葡萄糖胺和有机酸为底物,一锅法催化合成了X-gal-N-乙酰神经氨酸、X-gal-N-丙酰神经氨酸和X-gal-N-羟乙酰神经氨酸,并采用高效液相色谱-质谱联用及核磁共振等检测方法对产物进行了分析,结果证明该全酶法合成唾液酸糖苷类化合物途径具有转化率高、提取简单、产品纯度高等优点。

We describe two novel approaches for the determination of glucosamine(GlcN).The first approach is based on the chemical derivatization of GlcN with the non-fluorophor 1,3-diphenyl-1,3-propanedione(DPPD),which results in a condensation product with interesting fluorescent *** obtained compound was isolated by silica-gel chromatography and its structure elucidated by NMR and mass *** second approach is based on a previously undescribed sensitivity of the enzyme glucosamine-6-phosphate deaminase(GPDA)towards GlcN,which resulted in the precipitation of the *** a rational enzyme engineering approach and both liquid-based and plate-based screening methods,mutational GPDA variants with significantly improved precipitation properties were identified and *** novel glucosamine detection methods may be a useful addition to the repertoire of currently available glucosamine detection sensors.
