A Novel Hybrid Model Based on Machine and Deep Learning Techniques for the Classification of Microalgae

Classification and monitoring of microalgae species in aquatic ecosystems are important for understanding population dynamics.However,manual classification of algae is a time-consuming method and requires a lot of effort with expertise due to the large number of families and genera in its classification.The recognition of microalgae species has become an increasingly important research area in image recognition in recent years.In this study,machine learning and deep learning methods were proposed to classify images of 12 different microalgae species in order to successfully classify algae cells.8 Different novel models(MobileNetV3Small-Lr,MobileNetV3Small-Rf,MobileNetV3Small-Xg,MobileNetV3Large-Lr,MobileNetV3Large-Rf,MobileNetV3Large-Xg,Mobile-NetV3Small-Improved and MobileNetV3Large-Improved)have been proposed to classify these microalgae species.Among these proposed model structures,the best classification accuracy rate was 92.22%and the loss rate was 0.72,obtained from the MobileNetV3Large-Improved model structure.In addition,as a result of the experimental results obtained,metrics such as the confusion matrix,which can meet the experts in the correct diagnosis of microalgae species,were also evaluated.This research may in the future open a new avenue for the development of a cost-effective,highly sensitive computer-based system for the use of image analysis and deep learning techniques for the identification and classification of different microalgae.

Digital single-operator video cholangioscopy improves endoscopic management in patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis-a retrospective observational study

BACKGROUND Patients with primary sclerosing cholangitis(PSC)are at a high risk of developing cholestatic liver disease and biliary cancer,and endoscopy is crucial for the complex management of these patients.AIM To clarify the utility of recently introduced digital single-operator video cholangioscopy(SOVC)for the endoscopic management of PSC patients.METHODS In this observational study,all patients with a history of PSC and in whom digital SOVC(using the SpyGlass DS System)was performed between 2015 and 2019 were included and retrospectively analysed.Examinations were performed at a tertiary referral centre in Germany.In total,46 SOVCs performed in 38 patients with a history of PSC were identified.The primary endpoint was the evaluation of dominant biliary strictures using digital SOVC,and the secondary endpoints were the performance of selective guidewire passage across biliary strictures and the diagnosis and treatment of biliary stone disease in PSC patients.RESULTS The 22 of 38 patients had a dominant biliary stricture(57.9%).In 4 of these 22 patients,a cholangiocellular carcinoma was diagnosed within the stricture(18.2%).Diagnostic evaluation of dominant biliary strictures using optical signs showed a sensitivity of 75%and a specificity of 94.4%to detect malignant strictures,whereas SOVC-guided biopsies to gain tissue for histopathological analysis showed a sensitivity of 50%and a specificity of 100%.In 13%of examinations,SOVC was helpful for guidewire passage across biliary strictures that could not be passed by conventional methods(technical success rate 100%).Biliary stone disease was observed in 17.4%of examinations;of these,in 37.5%of examinations,biliary stones could only be visualized by SOVC and not by standard fluoroscopy.Biliary stone treatment was successful in all cases(100%);25%required SOVC-assisted electrohydraulic lithotripsy.Complications,such as postinterventional cholangitis and pancreatitis,occurred in 13%of examinations;however,no procedure-associated mortality occurred.CONCLUSION Digit

While periodontal (PD) disease is among principal causes of tooth loss worldwide, regulation of concomitant soft and mineralized PD tissues, and PD pathogenesis have not been completely clarified yet. Besides, relevant pre-clinical models and in vitro platforms have limitations in simulating human physiology. Here, we have harnessed three-dimensional bioprinting (3DBP) technology for developing a multi-cellular microtissue model resembling PD ligament-alveolar bone (PDL-AB) biointerface for the first time. 3DBP parameters were optimized;the physical, chemical, rheological, mechanical, and thermal properties of the constructs were assessed. Constructs containing gelatin methacryloyl (Gel-MA) and hydroxyapatite-magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles showed higher level of compressive strength when compared with that of Gel-MA constructs. Bioprinted self-supporting microtissue was cultured under flow in a microfluidic platform for >10 days without significant loss of shape fidelity. Confocal microscopy analysis indicated that encapsulated cells were homogenously distributed inside the matrix and preserved their viability for >7 days under microfluidic conditions. Immunofluorescence analysis showed the cohesion of stromal cell surface marker-1+ human PDL fibroblasts containing PDL layer with the osteocalcin+ human osteoblasts containing mineralized layer in time, demonstrating some permeability of the printed constructs to cell migration. Preliminary tetracycline interaction study indicated the uptake of model drug by the cells inside the 3D-microtissue. Also, the non-toxic levels of tetracycline were determined for the encapsulated cells. Thus, the effects of tetracyclines on PDL-AB have clinical significance for treating PD diseases. This 3D-bioprinted multi-cellular periodontal/osteoblastic microtissue model has potential as an in vitro platform for studying processes of the human PDL.

Different performance levels may be obtained for sideway collapse evaluation of steel moment frames depending on the evaluation procedure used to handle uncertainties. In this article, the process of representing modelling uncertainties, record to record （RTR） variations and cognitive uncertainties for moment resisting steel frames of various heights is discussed in detail. RTR uncertainty is used by incremental dynamic analysis （IDA）, modelling uncertainties are considered through backbone curves and hysteresis loops of component, and cognitive uncertainty is presented in three levels of material quality. IDA is used to evaluate RTR uncertainty based on strong ground motion records selected by the k-means algorithm, which is favoured over Monte Carlo selection due to its time saving appeal. Analytical equations of the Response Surface Method are obtained through IDA results by the Cuckoo algorithm, which predicts the mean and standard deviation of the collapse fragility curve. The Takagi-Sugeno-Kang model is used to represent material quality based on the response surface coefficients. Finally, collapse fragility curves with the various sources of uncertainties mentioned are derived through a large number of material quality values and meta variables inferred by the Takagi-Sugeno-Kang fuzzy model based on response surface method coefficients. It is concluded that a better risk management strategy in countries where material quality control is weak, is to account for cognitive uncertainties in fragility curves and the mean annual frequency.
