Impact of intestinal ultrasound with a portable system in the management of Crohn’s disease

Background:Intestinal ultrasound(IUS)is a valid cross-sectional imaging technique for the evaluation of Crohn’s disease(CD).With advancements in technology,portable ultrasound systems are becoming widely available,and the inevitable change to their use by non-radiologist clinicians would be a valuable contribution to improving patient *** study aimed to investigate the diagnostic yield of IUS examination performed by a gastroenterologist with a portable system as an adjunct imaging modality in the routine care of CD ***:A total of 117 CD patients were assessed by IUS ***-and post-IUS clinical-management decisions were *** primary outcome was to evaluate the change in the patients’clinical-management decision following the IUS *** diagnostic accuracy was compared against the reference decision reached via a multidisiplinary meeting after the evaluation of all patient-related *** endoscopic disease activity was determined using the simple endoscopic score for Crohn’s disease(SES-CD).Results:The initial clinical-management decision was changed in 47 patients(40.2%)after the IUS examination(P=0.001).The accuracy of patient-management decisions improved from 63.2%to 90.6%in comparison to reference decisions(P<0.001).After IUS examination,a further 13 cases(11.1%)were identified for urgent surgical/interventional *** accuracy of colonoscopic(SES-CD≥3)assessment was shown to be comparable to that of IUS(94%vs 91%).The sensitivity for disease presence was 95%with colonoscopy and 94%with the IUS ***:IUS examination with the use of a portable ultrasonography system significantly improves clinicalmanagement *** further supporting data,this practice would possibly become a requirement for CD management.

Comparison of the efficacies of patching and penalization therapies for the treatment of amblyopia patients

AIM:To compare the efficacies of patching and penalization therapies for the treatment of amblyopia ***:The records of 64 eyes of 50 patients 7 to16y of age who had presented to our clinics with a diagnosis of amblyopia,were evaluated *** eyes of 26 patients who had received patching therapy and 24 eyes of 24 patients who had received penalization therapy included in this *** latencies and amplitudes of visual evoked potential(VEP)records and best corrected visual acuities(BCVA)of these two groups were compared before and six months after the ***:In both patching and the penalization groups,the visual acuities increased significantly following the treatments(P<0.05).The latency measurements of the P100 wave obtained at 1.0°,15 arc *** of both groups significantly decreased following the ***,the amplitude measurements increased(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:The patching and the penalization methods,which are the main methods used in the treatment of amblyopia,were also effective over the age of 7y,which has been accepted as the critical age for the treatment of amblyopia.

Changes in retinal vessel diameters in migraine patients during attack-free period

AIM：To evaluate the retinal vessel diameters in patients with migraine by optical coherence tomography（OCT）.METHODS：In this cross-sectional study,124 eyes of 62 patients with a diagnosis of unilateral migraine during attack-free period and 42 age-and sex-matched control subjects were included. Migraine patients were divided into the ≤2 migraine attacks per month group and the ≥5 migraine attacks per month group. All subjects underwent complete ophthalmological and neurological examinations before measurements. Retinal vessel diameters and choroidal thickness were examined with the Spectralis ***：The mean diameters of the arteries in the eyes on the headache side of control group,≥5 migraine attacks per month and ≤2 migraine attacks per month group at 480 μm from the optic disk（Raster 3）were 119.54±46.69,136.68±25.93 and 119.34±31.75 μm respectively with a steady decline to 105.57±32.15,118.18±31.87 and 108.05±38.77 μm at 1440 μm（Raster 7）,the last measurement point,respectively. The retinal artery diameter measurements were significantly increased in ≥5 migraine attacks per month patients at four out of five measured points compared to control group（P〈0.05）. There were no statistical differences at any of the points of vein measurements. The choroidal thickness measurements were significantly decreased in ≥5 migraine attacks per month patients at all measured points compared to control group（P〈0.05）.CONCLUSION：The retinal artery diameter is found to increase significantly and the choroidal thickness is found to decrease in the eyes on the headache side in ≥5 migraine attacks per month patients compared to control group.

Neuroprotective effect of systemic and/or intravitreal rosuvastatin administration in rat glaucoma model

AIM： To evaluate the neuroprotective effect of rosuvastatin, in a rat experimental glaucoma model. METHODS： Ocular hypertension was induced in right eyes of Long-Evans rats （n=30） by cauterization of three episcleral veins. Left eyes were defined as controls. Rats were divided into five groups： oral rosuvastatin, intravitreal rosuvastatin, oral ＋intravitreal rosuvastatin, intravitreal sham and glaucoma without intervention. Rats were sacrificed at day 14. Retinal ganglion cell （RGC） number was assessed by histopathological analysis. Terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP-nick end-labeling （TUNEL） staining and the expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein （GFAP） in RGC layer was also examined. RESULTS： A significant intraocular pressure （lOP） elevation was seen （P=0.002）. Elevated lOP resulted in a significant decrease in number of RGCs in group 5 （70.33 ±8.2 cells/mm2） when compared with controls （92.50 ±13.72 cells/mm2; P=0.03）. The RGC number in group 1 （92.4±7.3 cells/mm2） was significantly higher than group 5 （ρ=0.03）. The numbers of RGC in groups 2, 3 （57.3±8.2 cells/mm2, 60.5±12.9 cells/mm2） were comparable with that of group 5 （ρ=0.18 and P=0.31）. The apoptosis rates with TUNEL staining were also parallel to RGC number. Animals with experimentally induced glaucoma showed an increase in retinal GFAP immunoreacUvity. CONCLUSION： Decrease in RGC loss and apoptosis suggest the neuroprotective potential of oral rosuvastatin treatment in a rat model of ocular hypertension. Howeverintravitreal rosuvastatin showed a contrary effect and further studies are required.

This article focuses on the performance analysis of both real-time and post-mission kinematic precise point positioning(PPP)in challenging marine *** this purpose,a real dynamic experiment lasting 6 h was carried out on a lake dam in?orum City of *** the kinematic test was continuing,the real-time PPP coordinates were obtained for each measurement epoch with a commercial real-time PPP(RT-PPP)service,namely the Trimble Center Point *** the post-mission PPP(PM-PPP)coordinates were calculated by using Multi-GNSS data and the Multi-GNSS Experiment(MGEX)precise *** kinematic RT-PPP and PM-PPP results showed that the PPP coordinates were consistent with the relative solution at centimetre and decimetre level in horizontal and height components,*** study implies that PPP technique is a powerful tool for highly accurate positioning in both real-time and post-mission modes,even for dynamic applications in harsh environments.

The synthesis of boronic-imine structured compounds and identification of their anticancer, antimicrobial and antioxidant activities

Boronic acid compounds with different substituted groups were handled to synthesize various ligands encoded as B1, B2, B3, B4, BS, B6, B7 and BS. B5 and B7 were tested for the cytotoxic activity against the prostate cancer cells and it was found that the cell viability of cancer cells was decreased while most of the healthy cells could still be viable. 5 μM solutions of B5 and B7 decreased the cell viability to 33% and 44%; whereas healthy cells were 71% and 95%, respectively, after treatment. Antimicrobial properties were explored against the bacterial and fungal microorganisms with B1, B5 and BZ The inhibition zones were evaluated for all boronic structures, and the growth inhibition zones were determined in a range of 7-13 mm diameter for different microorganism species. Staphylococcus aureus was the common micro- organism that three boronic compounds with imine ligands showed the activity. Antioxidant features of B2, B3, B4, B5, B6, B7 and B8 were investigated by different processes such as Beta-carotene bleaching （BCB）, 2,2-diphenyl picryl hydrazyl （DPPH）, 2,2″-azino-bis（ 3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid）（ABTS） and CUPric reducing antioxidant capacity （CLIPRAC） methods. Significant antioxidant activity was achieved by the phenyl boronic based ligands and these compounds demonstrated as much activity as standards （α-Toc and BHT）. In addition, all structures were applied properly without any decomposition during the experiments. They were rather stable both in aqueous media and solid state.

The modified systemic inflammation score is a predictor of ICU admission of COVID-19 patients

Objective:To evaluate the effect of the modified systemic inflammation score(mSIS)on prognosis in patients diagnosed with ***:In this retrospective cross-sectional study,181 patients were selected and divided into two groups:patients with and without admission to the intensive care unit(ICU).An albumin level of≥4.0 g/dL and lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio(LMR)of≥3.4 was scored 0,an albumin level of<4.0 g/dL or LMR of<3.4 was scored 1,and an albumin level of<4.0 g/dL and LMR of<3.4 was scored ***:A total of 242 COVID-19 positive patients were initially included in this *** these patients,61 were excluded and 181 patients *** the 181 participants,94(51.9%)were female,and the median age was 61(51,75)*** mSIS scale ranged from 0 to *** analysis,the median score was 0(0,0)in the non-ICU group and 2(0,2)in the ICU group(P<0.001).The median white blood cell,lymphocyte counts,and albumin levels were lower in the ICU group(P<0.001,P<0.001,and P<0.001,respectively).In logistic regression analysis lymphocytopenia(OR=5.158,95%CI=1.249-21.304,P=0.023),hypoalbuminemia(OR=49.921,95%CI=1.843-1352.114,P=0.020),AST elevation(OR=3.939,95%CI=1.017-15.261,P=0.047),and mSIS=2(OR=5.853,95%CI=1.338-25.604,P=0.019)were identified as independent predictors of ICU ***:The mSIS can be used as an independent parameter for establishing the intensive care needs of patients with COVID-19.

Effect of Low Velocity Impact Damage on Buckling Properties

The work described herein consists of experimental measurement of the post-impact buckling loads of E- glass/epoxy laminates. Composite samples with stacking sequence of [+45/?45/90/0]2s were subjected to low-velocity impact loading at energy levels of 36, 56.13, 79.95, 110.31 and 144 J. The impact tests were conducted with a specially developed vertical drop weight testing machine. Impact parameters like peak load, absorbed energy, deflection at peak load and damage area were evaluated and compared. Damaged specimens were subjected to compressive axial forces and buckling loads of the specimens were obtained. The relation between energy levels and buckling loads is investigated.

Ni/Pd core/shell nanoparticles supported on graphene as a highly active and reusable catalyst for Suzuki- Miyaura cross-coupling reaction

Monodisperse Ni/Pd core/shell nanoparticles （NPs） have been synthesized by sequential reduction of nickel（II） acetate and palladium（II） bromide in oleylamine （OAm） and trioctylphosphine （TOP）. The Ni/Pd NPs have a narrow size distribution with a mean particle size of 10 nm and a standard deviation of 5% with respect to the particle diameter. Mechanistic studies showed that the presence of TOP was essential to control the reductive decomposition of Ni-TOP and Pd-TOP, and the formation of Ni/Pd core/shell NPs. Using the current synthetic protocol, the composition of the Ni/Pd within the core/shell structure can be readily tuned by simply controlling the initial molar ratio of the Ni and Pd salts. The as-synthesized Ni/Pd core/shell NPs were supported on graphene （G） and used as catalyst in Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions. Among three different kinds of Ni/Pd NPs tested, the Ni/Pd （Ni/Pd = 3/2） NPs were found to be the most active catalyst for the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling of arylboronic acids with aryl iodides, bromides and even chlorides in a dimethylformamide/water mixture by using K2CO3 as a base at 110 ℃. The G-Ni/Pd was also stable and reusable, providing 98% conversion after the 5th catalytic run without showing any noticeable Ni/Pd composition change. The G-Ni/Pd structure reported in this paper combines both the efficiency of a homogeneous catalyst and the durability of a heterogeneous catalyst, and is promising catalyst candidate for various Pd-based catalytic applications.
