Diabetic neuropathy results in vasomotor dysfunction of medium sized peripheral arteries

Safety of applying midazolam-ketamine-propofol sedation combination under the supervision of endoscopy nurse with patient-controlled analgesia pump in colonoscopy

AIM To compare the results of midazolam-ketaminepropofol sedation performed by an endoscopy nurse and anaesthetist during colonoscopy in terms of patient satisfaction and *** American Statistical Association(ASA) Ⅰ-Ⅱ 60 patients who underwent colonoscopy under sedation were randomly divided into two groups: sedation under the supervision of an anaesthetist(SSA) and sedation under the supervision of an endoscopy nurse(SSEN). Both groups were initially administered 1 mg midazolam, 50 mg ketamine and 30-50 mg propofol. Continuation of sedation was performed by the anaesthetist in the SSAgroup and the nurse with a patient-controlled analgesia(PCA) pump in the SSEN group. The total propofol consumption, procedure duration, recovery times, pain using the visual analogue scale(VAS) and satisfaction score of the patients, and side effects were recorded. In addition, the patients were asked whether they remembered the procedure and whether they would prefer the same method in the case of *** Total propofol consumption in the SSEN group was significantly higher(P 0.05) between the two groups. No long-term required intervention side effects were observed in either *** Colonoscopy sedation in ASA Ⅰ-Ⅱ patients can be safely performed by an endoscopy nurse using PCA pump with the incidence of side effects and patient satisfaction levels similar to sedation under anaesthetist supervision.

A recent study published in Nature by Radko-Juettner and colleagues reports an unexpected mutant-specific synthetic lethality in which the E3 protein ubiquitin ligase DCAF5 specifically degrades mutant but not wild-type SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complexes.1 DCAF5 contains a likely druggable WDR domain,providing a new avenue for the development of novel therapeutics for aggressive cancers with SMARCB1 loss of function mutations.

Systemic modulation of skeletal mineralization by magnesium implant promoting fracture healing: Radiological exploration enhanced with PCA-based machine learning in a rat femoral model

The clinical application of magnesium(Mg)and its alloys for bone fractures has been well supported by in vitro and in vivo ***,there were studies indicating negative effects of high dose Mg intake and sustained local release of Mg ions on bone metabolism or repair,which should not be ignored when developing Mg-based ***,it remains necessary to assess the biological effects of Mg implants in animal models relevant to clinical treatment *** primary purpose of this study was to validate the beneficial effects of intramedullary Mg implants on the healing outcome of femoral fractures in a modified rat *** addition,the mineralization parameters at multiple anatomical sites were evaluated,to investigate their association with healing outcome and potential clinical *** to the control group without Mg implantation,postoperative imaging at week 12 demonstrated better healing outcomes in the Mg group,with more stable unions in 3D analysis and high-mineralized bridging in 2D *** bone tissue mineral density(TMD)was higher in the Mg group at the non-operated femur and lumbar vertebra,while no differences between groups were identified regarding the bone tissue volume(TV),TMD and bone mineral content(BMC)in *** the surgical femur,the Mg group presented higher TMD,but lower TV and BMC in the distal metaphyseal region,as well as reduced BMC at the osteotomy *** component analysis(PCA)-based machine learning revealed that by selecting clinically relevant parameters,radiological markers could be constructed for differentiation of healing outcomes,with better performance than 2D *** study provides insights and preclinical evidence for the rational investigation of bioactive materials,the identification of potential adverse effects,and the promotion of diagnostic capabilities for fracture healing.

Peri-implant gas accumulation in response to magnesium-based musculoskeletal biomaterials:Reframing current evidence for preclinical research and clinical evaluation

Assessment of air pollution genotoxicity by RAPD in Evernia prunastri L. Ach. from around iron-steel factory in Karabk, Turkey

Lichens are widely used in biomonitoring studies of air pollution, either as bioindicators of air quality or as bioaccumulators of atmospheric deposition. Over the past decade, several molecular techniques have been developed to provide information on diversity, genotoxicology, genetic relationships, etc. The heavy metal contents of Evernia prunastri samples were determined by atomic absorption spectrometry. The Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA Polymerase Chain Reaction （RAPD-PCR） method was used to describe the pattern of DNA band variation in the samples influenced by the environmental pollution. The study was designed to describe the level of pollution in an area contaminated with smoke and waste from an iron-steel factory, and to reveal the level of potential genotoxic agents around this source of pollution. The study also examined the suitability of the lichen samples for the detection of genotoxicity.

Dielectric size optimization for high power density in large-scale triboelectric nanogenerators

Triboelectric nanogenerators(TENGs)have emerged as a promising technology to harvest electrical energy from natural motions such as human movement,wind,and water *** TENGs show significant potential in small-scale applications,developing large-scale TENGs capable of generating high power remains a significant *** factors that can affect the performance of large-scale TENGs are being investigated to overcome this challenge,including the size and configuration of dielectric *** study optimizes dielectrics regarding surface area,thickness,and multicell configuration to improve harvested electrical power density in large-scale *** the studies,glass fiber was used as the positive dielectric,and multipurpose white silicone was used as the negative dielectric because of their high tribo-potential,durability,and easy *** the size optimization phase,dielectric thicknesses and surface areas that provide the maximum power density were ***,horizontal and vertical multicell configurations were examined to efficiently integrate size-optimized *** results reveal that large-scale TENGs with vertical multicell configurations can achieve high and usable energy density for *** findings provide valuable insight into the development of large-scale TENGs with advanced power generation capabilities.

Following the EN 15193,2008 Energy Performance in Buildings Regulation in the European Union Member States,a comprehensive calculation can be made on lighting energy performance and daylight *** improved model accounts for Turkey’s“BEP-TR”(“Regulation on Energy Performance in Buildings”).In the present study,the effect of the obstruction angle parameter of buildings on light-ing energy consumption and daylight provided is examined through a sample hotel project by the BEP-TR calculation *** study investigates the effect of day-light on lighting energy performance alternatives that were produced according to the height,building distance variations(causing obstruction angle),and the correlation between annual lighting consumption values,daylight supply factor,and obstruction ***,the current study aims to develop a method to assist zoning regulations,building intervals,and height decisions by determining specific ratios between obstruction parameters,daylight supply factor and lighting energy consump-tion *** of this study clearly show that obstruction parameter variables affect both the daylight supply factor and annual lighting energy significantly.

Can the change of vasomotor activity in irritable bowel syndrome patients be detected via color Doppler ultrasound?

In silico studies of magnesium-based implants: A review of the current stage and challenges

In silico methods to study biodegradable implants have recently received increasing attention due to their potential in reducing experimental time and cost. An important application case for in silico methods are magnesium(Mg)-based biodegradable implants, as they represent a powerful alternative to traditional materials used for temporary orthopaedic applications. Controlling Mg alloy degradation is critical to designing an implant that supports the bone healing process. To simulate different aspects of this biodegradation process, several mathematical models have been proposed with the ultimate aim of replacing laboratory experiments with computational modeling. In this review, we provide a comprehensive and critical discussion of the published models and their performance with respect to capturing the complexity of the biodegradation process. This complexity is presented initially. Additionally, the present review discusses the different approaches of optimizing and quantifying the different sources of errors and uncertainties within the proposed models.
