Understanding the Link: Emotional Attention in Italian Families and Children’s Social Development

Background Emotional attention refers to the capacity to recognize and properly respond to one’s and others’ emotional states. On another note, family is a primary source of socialization that influences the development of various social skills. In another line, adolescence is a complex stage that has been associated with emotional difficulties that could be related to competences such as prosociability and inclusion. It is inferred that through the family context and the attention that is processed, a series of competencies are transmitted to the youngsters, but this relationship is still unclear. For this reason, the study’s purpose was to examine the relationship between the emotional attention of mothers and fathers and the social and prosocial competencies of their children. Methods To accomplish this, a cross-sectional study and ex post facto design were conducted. The Trait-Meta Mood Scale (TMMS-24)-to assess emotional attention-, the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ)-to determine the prosociality dimension-, and the Test on Passing Developmental Tasks in Adolescence (TCS-A)-to measure social inclusion-were administered. The participants were N = 228 families composed of n = 114 mothers/fathers (67.5% females) and n = 114 daughters/sons (38.5% females) selected through non-probabilistic sampling using a convenience sample in the Bari region of Italy. A descriptive and inferential analysis-Student’s test and Pearson’s correlation-was performed with the statistic package SPSS version 28 (significance level p < 0.05). Results The findings showed that the families possessed an adequate background in emotional attention and that their daughters and sons were also generally well-adjusted in social inclusion and prosociality. It also found certain signs that the prosocial competence of the children could be related to the behavior of their mothers and fathers. Olfactory proteotyping: towards the enlightenment of the neurodegeneration

Although phylogenetically ancient,the olfactory system has received less attention than other sensorial ***,olfactory dysfunction is considered an early prodromal event in neurodegenerative diseases(NDs)(Doty,2012;Attems et al.,2014),which may vary from severe smell loss(e.g.,Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases)to relatively moderate loss(e.g.,progressive supranuclear palsy)(Doty,2017).Recently,a cluster of neuropathological and functional discoveries has evidenced the relevant role of the olfactory bulb(OB)during the neurodegenerative process(Attems et al.,2014;Rey et al.,2018).For instance,the double-transgenic APP/PS1 mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease(AD)develops early proteomic disturbances accompanied by a specific modulation of the focal adhesion kinase(FAK)and mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK)dynamics at the level of the OB,demonstrating that olfactory molecular alterations occur prior toβ-amyloid plaque appearance and memory impairments in APP/PS1 transgenic mice(Lachen-Montes et al.,2016).

Superficial Color Patches as a Visual Diagnostic Criterion for Agricultural Management

Soil management matters in semiarid lands are key to have acceptable yields and to preserve diversity. After the major agricultural intensification underwent in the semiarid lands of Monegros, NE Spain, custom tailored tools are needed to reconcile agriculture with habitats conservation. The objectives of this study were to quantify the effect of soil properties of two distinctly colored soils, white patches （WP） and dark patches （DP）, dominant in the arid landscape of the central Ebro Basin, Spain on winter cereal grain yield and to prove that superficial soil color could be used as a visual diagnostic criterion for evaluation of agricultural practices in arid lands. Significant differences between WP and DP soils were found in gypsum, carbonate contents, available water holding capacity and infiltration rate. The grain yield ranged from 51 to 5 713 kg ha-1. Significantly lower yields （P 〈 0.01） and precipitation-use efficiency （P 〈 0.05） were attained in the WP soils for the three seasons studied. This difference increased with the average rainfall due to the significantly lower soil water infiltration （P 〈 0.01） and water holding capacity （P 〈 0.05） found in the gypseous soils. Our results show that mapping the soil surface color at farm scale can be a low=cost tool for optimizing agricultural practices and recovering the natural vegetation. This approach can be advantageous in similar arid or semiarid environments around the world.

During the diversification of angiosperms, seeds have evolved structuralp chemical, molecular and physiolog- ically developing changes that specially affect the nucellus and endosperm. All through seed evolution, programmed celldeath （PCD） has played a fundamental role. However, examples of PCD during seed development are limited. The present review examines PCD in integuments, nucellus, suspensor and endosperm in those representative examples of seeds studied to date.

Aims South Africa is mainly dominated by savanna and grasslands ecosystems which have been previously reported to be acidic and nutrient deficient,specifically with regard to phosphorus(P)and nitrogen(N).Mucuna pruriens(L.)DC,commonly known as velvet bean,is an indigenous legume in most African countries and has been reported to withstand these adverse soil *** legume is used in many countries of the world for their medicinal value as well as for soil fertilization *** there are reports on *** growth and establishment in nutrient stressed ecosystems,no investigation has been conducted on *** symbiotic interactions,N source preference and associated growth carbon costs when subjected to P *** this study,we determined the impact of microbial symbionts on N nutrition and growth carbon costs of *** under P *** Microbe inoculation soils were collected from four geographical distinct KwaZulu-Natal ***,seeds were germinated in these natural soils and in early stages of nodule development,then seedlings were transferred in sterile quartz sand and supplied with Long Ashton nutrient media with varying P *** Findings The 16S RNA sequence results revealed that *** was nodulated by Burkholderia sp.,Paenibacillus *** Bacillus irrespective of P *** though P deficiency resulted in decreased overall biomass/growth,the root biomass,nodule number and carbon costs *** addition,low P supplied saplings showed the highest arbuscular mycorrhiza fungi percentage root *** ***,nitrogen derived from atmosphere had a positive correlation with P level and the saplings had a dual reliance on atmospheric derived N and soil derived N with increased reliance on soil N in low P supplied ***,*** exhibited different morphological and microbial symbiosis when subjected to P deficiency.

Characterization of housing stock for energy retrofitting purposes in Spain

Energy saving in existing buildings is of vital *** this work,the characterization of housing stock in Spain for energy retrofitting purposes has been *** regulations in force when the existing stock was constructed(1980–2007)were considered to model the envelope and thermal systems of single-family and block *** energy consumption and CO_(2) emissions were estimated for each type of dwelling and location,ranging from 44.2 to 130.6 kWh/(m^(2)·year)(13.6–32 kg CO_(2)/(m^(2)·year))for multi-family homes,and 85.5 to 213.5 kWh/(m^(2)·year)(17.1–45.2 kg CO_(2)/(m^(2)·year))for single-family homes.A global picture of the energy performance and emissions for 13 different climate zones was obtained with a total of 504 *** of the envelope allowed the reduction of consumption and emissions from 37.7%to 58%,depending on the climate *** consumption per square meter in block housing was lower than in single-family housing;nevertheless,single-family houses responded more effectively to energy improvement ***,non-renewable primary energy savings seem a better indicator of the improvement by retrofitting than the energy *** building models designed in this work may serve as a reference for subsequent research concerning energy retrofitting and energy savings of housing stock.

We report the first high-repetition-rate generation and simultaneous characterization of nanosecond-scale return currents of kA-magnitude issued by the polarization of a target irradiated with a PW-class high-repetition-rate titanium:sapphire laser system at relativistic *** present experimental results obtained with the VEGA-3 laser at intensities from5×1018to 1.3×1020W cm-2.A non-invasive inductive return-current monitor is adopted to measure the derivative of return currents of the order of kA ns-1and analysis methodology is developed to derive return *** compare the current for copper,aluminium and Kapton targets at different laser *** data show the stable production of current peaks and clear prospects for the tailoring of the pulse shape,which is promising for future applications in highenergy-density science,for example,electromagnetic interference stress tests,high-voltage pulse response measurements and charged particle beam *** compare the target discharge of the order of hundreds of nC with theoretical predictions and a good agreement is found.

Light losses in hollow, prismatic light guides related to prism defects: a transmittance model

Hollow, cylindrical, prismatic light guides （CPLGs） are optical components that, using total internal reflection （TIR）, are able to transmit high-diameter light beams in daylight and artificial lighting applications without relevant losses. It is necessary to study the prism defects of their surfaces to quantify the behavior of these optical components. In this Letter, we analyze a CPLG made of a transparent dielectric material. Scanning electron microscopy （SEM） and the topographic optical profilometry by absorption in fluids （TOPAF） imaging tech- nique are conducted to determine if there are defects in the corners of the prisms. A model for light guide trans- mittance that is dependent on prism defects is proposed. Finally, a simulation and an experimental study are carried out to check the validity of the proposed model.

Anther and pollen development:A conserved developmental pathway

Pollen development is a critical step in plant development that is needed for successful breeding and seed formation. Manipulation of male fertility has proved a useful trait for hybrid breeding and increased crop yield. However, although there is a good understanding developing of the molecular mechanisms of anther and pollen anther development in model species, such as Arabidopsis and rice, little is known about the equivalent processes in important crops. Nevertheless the onset of increased genomic information and genetic tools is facilitating translation of information from the models to crops, such as barley and wheat; this will enable increased understanding and manipulation of these pathways for agricultural improvement.
