Research of the Gas-solid Flow Character Based on the DEM Method

Numerical simulation of gas-solid flow behaviors in a rectangular fluidized bed is carried out three dimensionally by the discrete element method (DEM).Euler method and Lagrange method are employed to deal with the gas phase and solid phase *** collided force among particles,striking force between particle and wall,drag force,gravity,Magnus lift force and Saffman lift force are considered when establishing the mathematic ***-sphere model is used to describe the collision of *** addition,the Euler method is also used for modeling the solid phase to compare with the results of *** flow patterns,particle mean velocities,particles' diffusion and pressure drop of the bed under typical operating conditions are *** results show that the DEM method can describe the detailed information among particles,while the Euler-Euler method cannot capture the micro-scale *** matter which method is used,the diffusion of particles increases with the increase of gas *** the gathering and crushing of particles cannot be simulated,so the energy loss of particles' collision cannot be calculated and the diffusion by using the Euler-Euler method is *** addition,it is shown by DEM method,with strengthening of the carrying capacity,more and more particles can be schlepped upward and the dense suspension upflow pattern can be ***,the results given by the Euler-Euler method are not consistent with the real situation.

Experimental investigations are performed in a three-stage low-speed axial compressor with variable inlet guide vanes(IGV) and adjustable *** characteristics of the compressor,especially the efficiency and stall margin,are analyzed in design and off-design operation conditions by adjusting stagger angles of IGV and stators as well as changing the rotational *** experimental results show that the off-design performance of the multistage axial compressor is improved by restaggering of IGV and stators related to rotational *** the background of engineering applications,digital signal processing(DSP) technique is used to realize online adjustment of stagger angles according to the corresponding relations between incidence angles of rotor and rotational speed.

Conformational elasticity theory recently developed has been used to explore the internal energy contribution to the elastic force f(e)/f as a function of strain for poly(cis-1,4-isoprene) and poly(trans-1,4-isoprene). Calculated f(e)/f values are in good agreement with those obtained experimentally. Results show that behavior of f(e)/f is mainly contributed by chemical structure, or intramolecular interaction, supporting the experimental observations, and that the internal energy contribution is strain dependent.

We compare some popular dark energy models under the assumption of a flat universe by using the latest observational data including the type Ia supernovae Constitution compilation,the baryon acoustic oscillation measurement from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey,the cosmic microwave background measurement given by the seven-year Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe observations and the determination of H0 from the Hubble Space *** comparison statistics such as the Bayesian and Akaike information criteria are applied to assess the worth of the *** statistics favor models that give a good fit with fewer *** on this analysis,we find that the simplest cosmological constant model that has only one free parameter is still preferred by the current *** other dynamical dark energy models,we find that some of them,such as the αdark energy,constant w,generalized Chaplygin gas,Chevalliear-Polarski-Linder parametrization,and holographic dark energy models,can provide good fits to the current data,and three of them,namely,the Ricci dark energy,agegraphic dark energy,and Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati models,are clearly disfavored by the data.

The LH2 complex from Rhodopsudomonas (Rps.) palustris is unique in the heterogeneous carotenoid compositions. The dynamics of triplet excited state Carotenoids (3.ar* has been investigated by means of sub-microsecond time-resolved absorption spectroscopy both at physiological temperature (295 K) and at cryogenic temperature (77K). Broad and asymmetric T n ←T 1 transient absorption was observed at room temperature following the photo-excitation of Car at 53. nm, which suggests the contribution from various carotenoid compositions having different numbers of conjugated C=C double bonds (Nc=c). The triplet absorption bands of different carotenoids, which superimposed at room temperature, could be clearly distinguished upon decreasing the temperature down to 77 K. At room temperature the shorter-wavelength side of the main Tn04T1 absorption band decayed rapidly to reach a spectral equilibration with a characteristic time constant of ∽1 μs, the same spectral dynamics, however, was not observed at 77 K. The aforementioned spectral dynamics can be explained in terms of the triplet-excitation transfer among heterogeneous carotenoid compositions. Global spectral analysis was applied to the time-resolved spectra at room temperature, which revealed two spectral components peaked at 545 and 565 nm, and assignable to the Tn04 T1 absorption of Cars with Nc=c=11 and Nc=c=13. respectively. Surprisingly, the decay time constant of a shorter-conjugated Car, i.e. 0.72 ?s (aerobic) and 1.3. ?s (anaerobic), is smaller than that of a longer-conjugated Car, i.e. 2.12 us (aerobic) and 3.75 ?s (anaerobic), which is contradictory to the general rule of carotenoids and relative polyenes. The results are explained in terms of triplet-excitation transfer among different types of Cars. It is postulated that two Cars with different conjugation lengths coexist in an α, β-subunit in the LH2 complex.

Simulation of aerodynamic performance affected by vortex generators on blunt trailing-edge airfoils

An investigation was carried out by numerical simulation on a wind turbine airfoil and a blunt trailing-edge airfoil with and without vortex generators (VGs), and the performance of the airfoils was analyzed. By the simulation of airfoil DU 91-W2-250 it was verified that the numerical method and model were credible. Based on this airfoil, a new one with a blunt trailing edge of 6% chord was blended by symmetrically adding thickness, and its characteristics curves were obtained through computing at key angles of attack. Additionally, the pressure distribution on blended airfoil was analyzed by comparing to the airfoil without blend. The interaction of streamwise vortices induced by VGs with trailing vortex or separation vortex was considered, followed by the uncovery of how VGs can suppress the boundary layer separation.

A new approach of cascade utilization of the chemical energy of fuel

The indirect release of chemical energy of fuel is investigated, and a new mechanism is proposed to identify the cascade utilization of chemical energy of fuel more clearly. Based on the concept of energy level, the internal phenomenon of the indirect chemical energy release is disclosed, and the equations of energy level describing the utilization of chemical energy and thermal energy during the indirect chemical energy release process are obtained. From theoretical analysis, we find that the superiority of the indirect chemical energy release of fuel comes from the cascade utilization of the fuel's chemical energy. Moreover, the cascade utilization of chemical energy is verified by the investigation of CRGT (chemically recuperated gas turbine). As a result, the thermal exergy obtained from the chemical energy release of fuel increases by 2 % -3.% . The results obtained here may help a deeper understanding of indirect chemical energy release of fuel and provide a theoretical basis for the synthesis of innovative energy systems.

Zonal propagation of kinetic energy and convection in the South china Sea and Indian monsoon regions in boreal summer

Zonal propagation of kinetic energy (KE) and convection in the South china Sea (SCS) and Indian summer monsoon areas are examined in present study. Results suggest that the SCS and Indian summer monsoon prevailed regions (5 —15°N) are dominated by the southwesterly wind, however, the disturbances of KE at 850 hPa and convection are observed mainly coming from the western Pacific Ocean (140—150°E), after passing through the SCS, and westward propagated into the Bay of Bengal (90—100°E). In the Indian summer monsoon domain, where the disturbances of KE are found mainly coming from the Arabian Sea (AS) and eastward propagated into the Bay of Bengal. Therefore, the SCS and the Indian summer mon- soon are quite different in zonal propagation of KE and convection. The SCS summer monsoon is mainly affected by the KE and convection coming from the tropical western Pacific. The Indian summer monsoon, however, can be partly influenced by the AS and the SCS summer monsoon. The analysis also suggests that the interaction region between the SCS and the Indian summer monsoon is around 90—95°E, rather than 105°E as proposed by earlier studies.
