To treat tobacco addiction,a tea filter was developed and studied for smoking *** work reports the smoking cessation effect of tea when it was used as a component of cigarette *** one trial it was found that after using the tea filters for 2.months,the volunteer smokers decreased their cigarette consumption by 56.5%,and 31.7% of them stopped *** work identified a new method and material,tea filter and theanine,which inhibit tobacco and nicotine addiction and provide an effective strategy for treating tobacco addiction.

Water status in winter wheat grown under salt stress

Properties of the soil surface layer, the temporal pattern of the microclimate variables as well as crop condition were combined to analyze the characteristics of the evapotranspiration from winter wheat fields in a saline soil area. In order to accomplish this analysis, evapotranspiration was divided into evaporation from the soil and transpiration from wheat. Moreover, the effect of soil salinity on evapotranspiration was evaluated through the relationship between actual evapotranspiration and potential evapotranspiration (E a /E o ) and the total soil water potential (Φ) was divided into two components: matric potential (Ψ M ) and osmotic potential (Ψ o ). Two sites with different salinity levels were chosen for this study, located in hebei Province, china. Measurements were conducted in April–May 1997 and May 1998. The Bowen ratio method was used to estimate the actual evapotranspiration (E a ), whereas potential evapotranspiration (E o ) was estimated using Penman’s equation. Measurements of soil evaporation (E s ) were obtained with micro-lysimeters, and transpiration was calculated from the difference betweenE a andE s . The results show that transpiration comprised on average almost 80% of total evapotranspiration. Evaporation from the soil differed slightly between years, but this variation was dominated by the leaf area index (LAI), which ranged from 4 to 5 during the study period of 1997 and 1998. Soil electric conductivity (EC), which is directly related to osmotic potential, ranged from 1.9 to 3.5 mS cm?1 in 1997 and was negligible in 1998. Our results indicate that lower osmotic potential decreases the total soil water potential, thus affecting plant transpiration. Hence, it is possible to say that soil salinity actually decreases evapotranspiration from winter wheat fields.

According to our field survey,we analyzed current situations and existing problems in the new socialist countryside construction of Hebei Province. Based on these,we put forward our suggestions: put the government and farmers in correct place; improve farmers' quality and educational level; implement the new socialist countryside construction under the guidance of overall rural plan and combining natural and economic conditions of rural areas; and ensure continuous and long-term work.

Extended detection range for an optical enzymatic glucose sensor coupling with a novel data-processing method

A new data-processing method was established and applied for optical enzymatic glucose sensing,in which oxygen and glucose were simultaneously *** oxygen level remaining in the detection system,which was equal to the difference between the initial and consumed oxygen concentrations,could be measured using fluorescent oxygen indicators immobilized in the sensing *** was deduced that the ratio of I0 and I was inversely proportional to glucose concentration,where I0 is the maximum fluorescence intensity in various glucose solutions,and I is the fluorescence intensity at various concentrations of *** the new data-processing method,the detection range of the calibration curve method was extended from 0 to 1.2.mmol L-1,which was enlarged about 2.3 folds over that in ordinary *** prepared glucose sensor could be directly applied to detect high concentrations of glucose.

Aim:To investigate the effect of cholecystokinin octapeptide(CCK-8)on thediacylglycerol-protein kinase C(DAG-PKC)signaling pathway in rat pulmonaryinterstitial macrophages(PIM)stimulated by lipopolysaccaride(LPS).Methods:The PIM from rat lung tissues were isolated using the collagenase digestionmethod combined with alveolar lavage and pulmonary vessel *** and PKC activity were measured by radioenzymatic *** transloca-tion of PKCζ was determined by semi-quantitative immunoblot ***:CCK-8,at high concentrations(1×10-6-1×10-5mol/L),decreased DAG content andinhibited PKC activity and PKCζ translocation compared with that in rat restingPIM of a control group(P2.45(selective CCK-Breceptor antagonist)in a concentration-dependent manner(P<0.01).Conclusion:CCK-8 was a negative modulator of the DAG-PKC signaling pathway in rat restingPIM,which is very important for maintaining body *** significantlyinhibited LPS-induced DAG content,PKC activity and PKCζ translocation in aconcentration-dependent *** CCK receptor,especially the CCK-Areceptor,might play a major role in this process.

Crystal structures and thermal decomposition kinetics of lanthanide complexes with 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoic acid and 1,10-phenanthroline

A series of lanthanide complexes with the 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzoic acid(3,4,5-tmoba) and 1,10-phenanthroline(phen),[Ln(3,4,5-tmoba) 3 phen] 2.Ln = Pr(1),Nd(2. and Ho(3)),have been synthesized and characterized by a series of techniques including elemental analysis,IR spectra,X-ray crystallography and TG/DSC-FTIR *** three complexes have two kinds of coordination modes,in which the Pr 3+ and Nd 3+ cations are nine-coordinated and the Ho 3+ cation is *** three-dimensional IR accumulation spectra of gaseous products for complexes 1-3 were analyzed and the gaseous products were identified by the typical IR spectra obtained from the 3D surface ***,we obtained the activation energy E of the first steps of complexes 1-3 by the integral isoconversional non-linear(NL-INT) method and discussed the non-isothermal kinetics of complexes 1-3 using the Malek ***,SB(m,n) was defined as the kinetic method of the first-step thermal *** thermodynamic parameters △G≠,△H≠ and △S≠ of activation at the peak temperature were also calculated.

Aim:To examine the effect of venom from the spider Macrothele raven on cellproliferation and cytotoxicity in human cervical carcinoma,HeLa ***:Morphological and biochemical signs of apoptosis appeared using acridine or-ange-ethidium bromide （AO/EB） *** morphological changes in HeLacells alter treatment with spider venom were observed using scanning electronmicroscopy （SEM） and transmission electron microscopy （TEM）.Cell prolifera-tion and cytotoxicity were determined by [methyl-3H] thymidine assay （[3H]TdR）and lactate dehydrogenase （LDH） release,*** fragmentation andcell cycle distribution were monitored using flow *** addition,Westernblot analysis was used to evaluate the level of caspase-3 *** vivoexamination of the inhibition of the size of tumors in nude mice treated with spidervenom was ***:Marked morphological changes were observedusing AO/EB staining,SEM and TEM *** venom at concentrations of10-40 mg/L caused dose- and time-dependent inhibition of HeLa cell *** ratio of apoptosis and necrosis *** activity of caspase-3 wasupregulated after spider venom *** vivo study of tumor size revealedthat tumors significantly decreased in size from controls to tumors treated for 3weeks with spider venom （P<0.05）.Conclusion:The inhibition of HeLa cells bythe venom of the spider Macrothele raveni was carried out in three ways:induc-tion of apoptosis,necrosis of toxicity damage and direct *** venom is anovel anti-tumor material both in vitro and in vivo.

SH-guided waves in layered piezoelectric/piezomagnetic plates

The propagation of shear horizontal (SH) guided waves in a coupled plate consisting of a piezoelectric layer and a piezomagnetic layer is studied. Both the layers are transversely isotropic and perfectly bonded along the interface. The upper and the lower surfaces of the plate are assumed to be mechanically free, electrically open and magnetically closed. Two different cases are considered. One is that the bulk shear wave velocity of piezoelectric material is larger than that of piezomagnetic material. The other is that the bulk shear wave velocity of piezomagnetic material is larger than that of piezoelectric material. The dispersion relation is obtained while the phase velocity is among the bulk shear wave velocity of two different layers. The numerical results show that the phase velocity approaches the smaller bulk shear wave velocity of the material in the system with the increase in the wave number for different modes. The thickness ratio and the properties of the piezoelectric material have great effect on the dispersion behaviors. The results of this paper can offer some fundamental theory to the application of piezoelectric/piezomagnetic composites or structures.
