Influence of L-methionine-deprived total parenteral nutrition with 5-fluorouracil on gastric cancer and host metabolism

AIM: To investigate the influence of L-methionine-deprived total parenteral nutrition with 5-FU on gastric cancer and host metabolism. METHODS: N-methyl-N'-nitro-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) induced gastric cancer rats were randomly divided into four groups: Met-containing TPN group (n=11), Met-deprived TPN group (n =12., Met-containing TPN+5-FU group (n=11) and Met-deprived TPN+5-FU group (n=12.. Five rats in each group were sacrificed after 7 days of treatment and the samples were taken for examination. The remaining rats in each group were then fed separately with normal diet after the treatment until death, the life span was noted. RESULTS: The tumors were enlarged in Met-containing group and shrank in Met-deprived group markedly after the treatment. The DNA index (DI) of tumor cells and the body weight (BW) of rats had no significant change in the two groups, however, the ratio of tumor cells'S phase was increased. The ratio of G2. phase went up in Met-containing group, but down in Met-deprived group. In the other two groups that 5-FU was added, the BW of rats, and the diameter of tumors, the DI of tumor cells, the S and G2. phase ratio of tumor cells were all decreased, particularly in Met-deprived plus 5-FU group. Pathological examination revealed that the necrotic foci of the tumor tissue increased after Met-deprived TPN treatment, and the nucleoli of tumor cells enlarged. In MetTPN+5-FU group, severe nuclear damage was also found by karyopyknosis and karyorrhexis, meanwhile there was slight degeneration in some liver and kidney cells. Time Series Correlated Error's Simulation Scheme with the Application to Simulate the Ephemerides Error of CHAMP

Computer simulation experiment is very important in the phase of project design, the availability of simulated result highly depends on the scheme of error simulation. Time series observations are normally correlated. This paper first discusses the formula of correlated error propagation, then derives the formula of simulating time series correlated errors. This formula is then used to simulate correlated ephemerides errors of CHAMP, then the ephemerides are used to recover the gravity vector at satellite altitude with finite differential formula. The formulae derived in this paper are verified with the difference between the recovered gravity vectors and the `true values’ which are directly computed with the same gravity model as that generating the ephemerides.

Dynamic learning rates algorithm for BPNN to forecast time series of dam security

Time series data of dam security have a large number of observed values and should be forecasted accurately in time. Neural networks have the powerful approach ablilities of arbitrary functions and have been broadly utilized in many domains. In this paper, a dynamic learning rate training algorithm of back-propagation neural networks for time series forecasting is proposed and the networks with this algorithm are built to forecast time series of dam security. The application results demonostrate the efficiency of modelling and the effictiveness of forecasting.

Application of vertically integrated sampling approach to study of new production via ^(2.4)Th -^(2.8)U disequilibria

The spatial and temporal distributions of new production vary largely in different sea areas. To understand the level of new production in the sea area studied better, an estimate of new production must be obtained in large spatial and temporal scales. The ~2.4Th/ ~2.8U disequilibrium is an effective method for the study of new production. Two sampling strategies, vertically integrated sampling ap proach based on trapezoidal integration principle and discrete layer sampling approach, were compared in the studies of the xiamen Bay and the northern South {2. Sea. The scavenging fluxes and removal fluxes of ~2.4Th and the residence times for dissolved and particulate ~2.4Th were calculated. The coinci dent results from two Sampling approach suggest that vertically integrated sampling approach is not only effective and reliable, but also significantly reduces the number and volume of samples. It allows us to study new production by ba ^(2.4)Th - ^(2.8)U disequilibria in large spatial scale.

Relationships between bacterial-algal proliferating and mass extinction in the Late Devonian Frasnian-Famennian transition:Enlightening from carbon isotopes and molecular fossils

Studies show positive shifts of inorganic and organic carbon isotope values (δ 13Ccarb and δ 13Ckerogen) from +0.43 (‰ V-PDB) to +3.54 (‰ V-PDB) and from ?2..38 (‰ V-PDB) to ?2..14 (‰ V-PDB), respectively, B* (Ba* = Ba/ (Al2.3 X 15%)) values from 0.015 to 0.144, TOC values from 0.02. to 0.2.%, V/Cr values from 0.3 to 2.0, Sr/Ba values from 3.2. to 49.50 in the Late Devonian Frasnian Upper rhenana zone to the top linguiformis zone of the Yangdi sec-tion deposited in carbonate slope facies of Guilin, Guangxi, South china, which indicates that biomass, productivity, organic carbon burial and salinity increase and that oxygenation near the boundary between sediments and waters decreases from the Late Devonian Frasnian Upper rhenana zone to the top linguiformis zone. Abundance of molecular fossils increases and normal alkanes, isoprenoid hydrocarbon, terpanes and steranes are dominated from the Late Devonian Frasnian to the bottom of Famennian, which shows that the predecessors of molecular fossils of the Frasnian-Famennian (F-F) transition are dominated by marine phytoplankton, zooplankton and benthic bacteria with no photosynthesis. Therefore, it is considered that the F-F transitional mass extinction with a multistage, selection and global synchronizing was caused by bacte-rial-algal proliferating, continuing deterioration of the shallow marine ecoenvironment of the mid-dle-lower latitudes. A simple cause and effect chain can be expressed as: appearance of seed plants and multi-storied forests → enhanced chemical and biochemical weathering and pe-dogenesis → wide development of soils → increasing riverine nutrient fluxes in epicontinental sea → from superoligotrophic to eutrophic in epicontinental sea → proliferating of marine phyto-plankton and zooplankton → frequent red tide and anoxia → mass extinction of shallow marine organisms in the middle-lower latitudes. Synthesis and Properties of Water-soluble CdSe/ZnS Nanocrystals with the Type-I Core/Shell Structure

The synthesis of CdSe/ZnS core/shell nanocrystals though aqueous phase using the coprecipitation method was reported. The influences of factors such as injection methods and dosages of precursors, reaction duration of water-bathing and the initial CdSe：ZnS molar ratio were discussed. In comparison to the CdSe plain core nanocrystals, the CdSe/ZnS core/shell nanocrystals show much brighter photoluminescence demonstrated by the photoluminescence spectra. The epitaxial growth of the core/shell structures was verified by TEM and XRD.

Today,long-span bridges are being designed to be more flexible and to resist extensive impacts from changes in temperature,severe wind gusts and earthquake tremors. Structural responses (especially displacement) of bridge structures are becoming increasingly important for the finite element (FE) modal updating,structural response prediction and safety evaluation. Methods of global displacement sensing were developed for these needs. This paper presents an overview of current research and development activities in the field of bridge health monitoring using the global positioning system (GPS). The GPS monitoring technology and its accuracy assessment method are also briefly described. Finally,existing problems and promising research efforts in the GPS based bridge health monitoring are discussed.

This paper focuses on the group of metalloproteins/metalloenzymes in the acetyl-coenzyme A synthesis pathway of anaerobic microbes called Wood-Ljungdahl pathway,including formate dehydrogenase (FDH),corrinoid iron sulfur protein (CoFeSP),acetyl-CoA synthase (ACS) and CO dehydrogenase (CODH). FDH,a key metalloenzyme involved in the conversion of carbon dioxide to methyltetrahydrofolate,catalyzes the reversible oxidation of formate to carbon dioxide. CoFeSP,as a methyl group transformer,accepts the methyl group from CH3-H4 folate and then transfers it to ACS. CODH reversibly catalyzes the reduction of CO2.to CO and ACS functions for acetyl-coenzyme A synthesis through condensation of the methyl group,CO and coenzyme A,to finish the whole pathway. This paper introduces the structure,function and reaction mechanisms of these enzymes.

The chemical composition of sedimentary rocks is mainly controlled by source rocks. Through examining chemical composition of terrigenous rocks, the tectonic evolution of a sedimentary basin can be modeled. The Turpan Basin belongs to a continental sedimentary basin and its source rocks are derived from the upper continental crust.

For every two vertices u and v in a graph G, a u-v geodesic is a shortest path between u and v. Let I(u, v) denote the set of all vertices lying on a u-v geodesic. For a vertex subset S, let I(S) denote the union of all I(u, v) for u, v ∈ S. The geodetic number g(G) of a graph G is the minimum cardinality of a set S with I(S) = V (G). For a digraph D, there is analogous terminology for the geodetic number g(D). The geodetic spectrum of a graph G, denoted by S(G), is the set of geodetic numbers of all orientations of graph G. The lower geodetic number is g ?(G) = minS(G) and the upper geodetic number is g +(G) = maxS(G). The main purpose of this paper is to study the relations among g(G), g ?(G) and g +(G) for connected graphs G. In addition, a sufficient and necessary condition for the equality of g(G) and g(G × K 2. is presented, which improves a result of Chartrand, Harary and Zhang.
