Glass forming ability (GFA) and structural characterization of a new amorphous Al-Ni-Sr alloy melt spun were investigated on the theory of the factors for the glass formation. the GFA was varied with the ratio of Ni to Sr in detail and successful amorphous phase dispersed with 2 ～ 5 nm precipitates was prepared from Al-Ni5-Sr3. thermal stability and crystallization behavior of the amorphous phase were determined by continuous and isothermal heating technique on DCS, resulting that the crystallization occurs by the growth of fcc Al nanocrystals on the preexistent nuclei.

Different pre-heating of boron carbide particles for reinforcement and different processing conditions were studied in this work. Being one of the most cost-effective industrial methods, conventional melt stir-casting route was *** showed that the boron carbide particles distributed well for a suitable pre-heating temperature and processed in *** reaction product was found at the A1-B4C interfaces at the resolution limit of SEM used in that way.

Fabrication of Barrier Ribs for PDP by Capillary Infiltration Process and their Sintering Behavior

Closed-cell type barrier ribs such as meander, honeycomb, SDR, and waffle types were produced using capillary molding process. Sintering of the ribs revealed that the ribs with asymmetric geometry such as meander and SDR type became distorted severely by the sintering process, but the ribs with symmetric geometry such as honeycomb and waffle type maintained their green state morphology. After sintering, the ribs were coated with green phosphor using osmosis coating process and its luminance characteristics were evaluated. the results indicated that the luminance and its efficiency is improved by using closed-cell type ribs with the new phosphor forming technology.

Joining techniques of dissimilar materials for lightweight multi-material automotive body structure were discussed. the joining of 1 .4 mm thickness steel and 2 mm thickness of Al were performed by the new method that is hybrid laser welding system. After aluminum and steel were welded by laser hybrid welding process, the micro-structure investment and the micro-hardness test were carried out. Hybrid laser welding promises a bright future in joining technology of dissimilar materials for automotive components.

Room temperature deformation behavior of A1-8Fe-2Mo-2V-1Zr alloy produced by spray forming and subsequent warm-extrusion at 693 K and/or rolling at 423 K was investigated in terms of tensile test and microstructural *** the specimen processed by spray forming and warm extrusion, the microstructure consisting of equiaxed grains with the average grain size of 500 nm in the matrix phase and uniformly dispersed fine intermetallic A13(Fe, Mo, V, Zr) and A16(Fe, Mo, V, Zr) phases less than 100 nm was characterized. It was revealed that subsequent warm rolling after warm extrusion promotes precipitation of a fine dispersoid from the supersaturated matrix phase. Warm rolling was found to be effective to increase the yield and tensile strength in the high strain rate regime. Elongation of the warm rolled specimen showed highe r value than extruded specimen over the whole strain rate region studied.

the synchrotron X-ray double-crystal topography was employed to investigate the structure of Si/SiGe/Si deposited on SIMOX SOI. Rocking curves with three diffraction peaks were acquired before and after 180° rotation of samples. Double-crystal topographs taken at the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the three peaks differ from each other. Many defects appear in the Si layers that are likely related to the tilt between SOI and epitaxial layers.

By theoretical analysis of heat transfer during the "one-step" directional solidification process, the functional relation between the temperature in solid-liquid interface and its effect factor was studied. the thermal gradient in solid liquid interface and heat transfer coefficient between the samples and surroundings were also calculated. On the basis of the above analysis, some suggestions for improving the thermal gradient in solid-liquid interface were put forward. It will provide a theoretical instruction for preparing high performance giant magnetostrictive materials (GMM).

A commercial Al-Mg alloy was subjected to equal channel angular pressing of 4 passes with and without postrolling, and the effects of post-rolling on the deformation characteristics of the alloy at 723 K were examined. Post-rolling was found to influence the deformation behavior significantly. the deformation behavior of the alloy processed only by equal channel angular pressing was characterized by (a) localized deformation indicated by severe surface prominence and depression, (b) the strain rate sensitivity of 0.33, and (c) moderate high strain rate superplastic elongations. By contrast, that of the alloy processed by equal channel angular pressing and post-rolling (70 % thickness reduction) was manifested by (a) uniform deformation associated with grain boundary sliding throughout the sample, (b) a sigmoidal behavior showing the strain rate sensitivity of 0.45 at the intermediate strain rates in the logarithmic stress-strain rate curve, and (c) very large high strain rate superplastic elongations.

A new concept of salt core, a melting temperature of which is lower than the solidus temperature of cast alloy,was introduced to produce an integrated casting part having a complicated inner shape or requiring under-cut in high pressure die casting or squeeze casting process. A salt core, named a fusible core in this paper because the salt core can be easily extracted just as holding at a temperature under a solidus temperature of a casting alloy, was developed and applied to produce a fuel control part for automotive GDI engine in high pressure diecasting machine. A different salt material of a lower melting temperature than that of A1 alloy was mixed with a different ceramic particulate to improve a thermo-physical property of fusible core. the thermo-physical property of the fusible core was measured and a weight faction of the ceramic particulate was optimized. the selected core materials were poured in metallic mold by gravity to produce a fusible core for a fuel control part for automotive GDI engine. the fuel control part, which the fusible core was included inside, was successful to fabricate in a conventional diecasting machine with no melting of fusible core during casting.
