During the abdominal surgery,as well as other kinds of surgeries,trauma flushing with warm sterilized normal saline can not only prevent infection,avoid arrhythmia caused by lower body temperature,but can shorten the postoperative recovery *** order to achieve different normal saline water-flow with constant temperature （usually 37°C） in different environments during different seasons,a medical infusion pump with adjustable water-flow having constant temperature was *** paper mainly gave researches on the implementation of such an infusion *** the paper,we also estimated the power consumption based upon the law of conservation of energy and the heat calculation *** using the fuzzy proportional-integral-derivative （PID） control algorithm,we achieved adjustable constant sterilized normal saline flow with 37°C constant temperature.

Four different sources of resistant starch （RS） including black cowpea （Vigna unguiculata;black cowpea flour）, green banana （Musa sapientum;green banana flour）, retrograded flour of high amylose rice （Oryza sativa;retrograded rice flour）, and commercial resistant starch （standard RS） were used to evaluate resistant starch content, chemical compositions, and the growth of Lactobacillus acidophilus TISTR 1338 and Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus TISTR 895. The black cowpea flour had significantly lowest amounts of resistant starch content （6.31%）, but highest in protein content （27.28%） whereas the highest level of RS was found in RS standard （38.41%） followed by green banana flour （26.59%）. In the study on the growth of Lactobacillus acidophilus TISTR 1338 and Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus TISTR 895, the results indicated that the green banana and retrograded flour could protect the cell and promote survival of L. bulgaricus TISTR 895, but L. acidophilus TISTR 1338.

There is scarcity of evidence-based information about socio-demographic as well as ailment factors associated with foster children in Bangladesh. Thus the aim of the present study was to determine the socio-economic, health and nutritional status of young foster children in urban Dhaka. A total of 208 (1%;n = 208/28,948) under-5 foster children were enrolled in the Diarrheal Disease Surveillance System of icddr,b between 1993-2012. Randomly selected under-5 children (n = 624) with a ratio of 1:3 were extracted and constituted as comparison group. Forty-three percent (n = 90) foster children were male. Lack of formal schooling of mother was higher among foster children compared to non-foster children (52% vs. 35%;p nutritional problems of foster children. Therefore, appropriate health and nutrition interventions are critical for foster children in Bangladesh.

Effects of pulsed electric fields(PEF) treatment on interface properties of phospholipids dispersion were studied. Results showed that the conductivity of solutions with different concentration after PEF treatment increased while surface tension value decreased with increasing electric field strength. The absolute value of zeta potential firstly increased when the field intensity was within 00 k V/cm, and then decreased if the field intensity increased further. It can be inferred that the torque of phospholipids molecule may have changed and phospholipids molecule have rearranged after PEF treatment. Moreover, as a resemblance to biological membrane structure, the phospholipid molecules of cell membrane may generate micropores after rearrangement, which result in the cell electroporation.

Scavengers working in the formal recycling sector are often exposed to various health hazards from working conditions with solid *** study aims to investigate and evaluate health risk protection behaviors,Knowledge,Attitudes and Practices（KAP） among scavengers during daily works in municipality dump sites.A total of 95 scavengers were randomly selected from nine municipality dump sites and interviewed through use of face to face *** results indicated that scavengers were 52 % male and 48% *** average mean age was 38 *** of their educational levels were 72% primary *** have been working as scavengers for more than 10 *** income was approximately180 baht/day（6USD）.They worked 6 hours per day and 6 days per *** of scavengers had low level of knowledge in term of alertness,positive attitude about health risk and inappropriate practice on prevention of infections,injury and *** of the scavengers used personal protective equipments（PPEs） such as gloves,hats,shoes,long-sleeve shirts,and *** 67% of the respondents had their food and drinking water within the dump sites *** it was found that 44% of the respondents find food from the wastes in the dump sites and they rarely cleaned hands or body after *** self report reveals that 38% of the respondents had sustained injuries and accidents,63% were smoking and 66% drinking *** 95% of the scavengers have access to health care under the scheme,but they rarely go for annual body check up.

Predictive Factors of Hyponatremia in Under-Five Severely Malnourished Children with Pneumonia Admitted to a Large Urban Hospital in Dhaka, Bangladesh: A Nested Case-Control Design

Background: Hyponatremia is the most common electrolyte imbalance encountered in the management of diarrheal children. Common ramifications include cerebral edema and fatal outcomes. However, pediatric data remain lacking, particularly in developmental contexts where resources are limited and associated conditions like malnutrition and pneumonia are common. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate predicting factors associated with hyponatremia in children under five years of age with severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in Bangladesh. Methods: Using a nested case-control design, we compared clinical and laboratory characteristics of children with (n = 61) and without hyponatremia (n = 183) taken from a parent population of all children under five with SAM and clinical or radiological pneumonia admitted to Dhaka Hospital of icddr,b between April 2011 and June 2012 (n = 407). Results: Logistic regression analysis adjusting for potential confounders such as lack of breast feeding, duration of vomiting (days), and severe wasting revealed that older age (OR 1.05, 95%CI 1.02 - 1.07, p = 0.001) (5% increase in the relative odds of hyponatremia for each additional month of age), presence of diarrhea (OR 2.43, 95%CI 1.0 - 6.0, p = 0.05), and difficulty breathing (OR 1.52, 95%CI 1.0 - 2.05, p = 0.05) were significantly associated with hyponatremia. Conclusion: Our data suggest that older age, presence of diarrhea, and difficulty breathing in under-five children with SAM is independent predictors of hyponatremia. These findings underscore the importance of detecting simple clinical predictors early in order to facilitate appropriate management and to prevent potential ramifications of hyponatremia in SAM children, especially in resource-poor settings.

Childhood overweight and obesity, is an emerging public health concern in developing countries like Bangladesh. However, regular television watching by child’s mother and its impact on excess weight gain or overweight and obesity to their offspring is not reported elsewhere. The aim of the present analysis was to determine the socio-demographic characteristics among overweight and obese children based on those mothers who watch television regularly and compare this finding with malnourished and well-nourished under-5 children. A total of 20,800 under-5 children were enrolled during 1996 to 2012 in the Diarrheal Disease Surveillance System (DDSS) of Dhaka Hospital of international Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b). Mean weight-for-age z-score (–1.61 vs. –2.30;mean difference: ?0.69;p < 0.001), height-for-age z-score (–1.42 vs. –1.99;–0.57;<0.001), weight-for-height z-score (–1.59 vs. –1.07;–0.53;<0.001), BMI-for-age z-score (–1.09 vs. –1.61, –0.52;<0.001) differed significantly between the children whose mother did and did not watch television regularly. Under-5 children whose mother watched television regularly (2%) compared to those who did not (1%), had 2.28 [(95% CI-1.61 - 3.24) p < 0.001] times increased odds of being overweight and obese. Television watching of mothers is associated with childhood overweight and obesity and is one of the most public health concerns in Bangladesh. These changes may be in part of better socio-economic condition, changes in life style behaviour and dietary pattern.
