摘      要:Waist circumference(WC) reflects presence of fat in the abdomen and is an index of visceral fat and oxidative stress markers in the body. A good health indicator independent of body mass index(BMI), a high WC is associated with cardiovascular disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, various types of cancer and premature death, elderly depression, cognitive decline, osteoporosis, and frailty, among other conditions. Aging is a realistic global challenge today. We must take into account the excessive increase of WCs as a health risk factor in the *** aim of this study was to analyze the temporal trends and characteristics associated with waist circumference(WC) among elderly Chinese people. Methods We used data from 3,096 adults older than 65 who participated in the China Health and Nutrition Survey, an ongoing cohort study, between 1993 and 2015. We used longitudinal quantile regression models to explore the temporal trends and characteristics associated with WC. Results WC gradually increased among Chinese adults older than 65. The WC curves shifted to the right with wider distributions and lower peaks in both men and women. All WC percentile curves shifted upward with similar growth rates in the 25 th, 50 th, and 75 th percentiles. The WC means increased from 78 centimeters(cm) to 86 cm during the 22 years of our study. WC significantly increased with age and body mass index and decreased with physical activity(PA), and those associations were stronger in the higher percentiles than in the lower percentiles. Notably, several studies had shown no increase in PA levels among the elderly even though they may have more time to engage in PA. Even the elderly group had the lowest levels of PA compared with other age groups. The main reasons for physical inactivity among older people are diseases, fear of injuries and falls, lack of energy and weakness, low motivation, and lack of partners or friends for joint activities. Therefore, we should find suitable and effective w
